Over 40 business leaders and students interested in our management courses attended the networking event held at The Atria Hotel in Bangalore today, which also included a personal and professional development session by the MBA course leader. The MBA curriculum is one of the business and management courses offered by Sheffield Business School which incorporates principles of "emotional intelligence". At an exclusive event held today, world-renowned psychologist and Sheffield Business School visiting fellow, Dr. Martyn Newman, delivered a keynote speech about the emotional qualities which distinguish outstanding leaders. Speaking at the event, Ms Kate Morse, Head of International Business, Sheffield Business School, said, We want to address the urgent need in business and industry to develop a generation of managers and directors with the skills to both lead and communicate effectively. A recent report by Zinnov Consulting indicates that only 15 per cent of Indian managers are proactive and have the capacity to achieve global business impact. This clearly demonstrates a need for managers and entrepreneurs with the skills required to become successful leaders of tomorrow. Our courses are informed by the experience we have working with industry and professional bodies and large corporate partners including BP, HSBC, Taj, Rolls Royce, Microsoft." Dr Martyn Newman, MD and Founder of RocheMartin, a leading psychologist and author of Emotional Capitalists - The New Leaders presented key strategies for accelerating leadership performance and building emotional intelligence and how this has shown significant return on investment. He said: The world of work is changing and the value of Emotional intelligence is extremely important, especially for those in managerial positions. Emotional intelligence skills can be developed to achieve excellence in leadership and improve working relationships throughout organisations and businesses. Improving the way we communicate within the workplace undoubtedly has a positive effect on our ability to sustain, lead and grow a successful business." The Sheffield Hallam MBA programme, as well as other business and management courses, has been designed to incorporate "emotional intelligence". The modules covered in the course include strategic marketing management and decision making, developing personal and professional leadership practice, leadership and managing change, enterprise, business operations and process management.
