UL & CSA EXPLOSION-PROOF SUBMERSIBLE SPECIFICATION

1.0 Scope This specification details the mechanical and electrical requirements for squirrel cage induction motors, both single and three-phase, designed for wet well submersible applications in water, sewage, and air. It is the intent of this specification to define submersible premium quality motors which will provide efficient operation with high mechanical integrity under adverse operating conditions for maximum life and minimum life cycle costs. This specification covers sewage wet and dry well application defined by the National Electric Code as Class 1; Division 1, hazardous locations section 501-8(a) requiring explosion-proof construction. 2.0 2.1 General All motors covered by this specification shall conform to the latest applicable requirements of NEMA, lEEE, ANSl and NEC standards. Motors shall be designed for continuous submerged duty in water, sewage, or air per the minimum recommended submergence depth. Three-phase motors shall be rated 200/400, 230/460, or 575 volts. Single-phase motors shall be rated 115/230 volts. Multivoltage motors shall be final connected for one voltage and designed for easy field reconnection. Ratings will be based upon 40_C ambient conditions. Motor construction shall be designed to withstand 200 p.s.i. water pressure at all seal locations. All motors shall be furnished with Class F rated insulation materials or better. Insulation materials rated lower than Class F (Class B or A) are considered not acceptable nor equal. Motors 1/2 horsepower up to and including 135 HP shall be rated as Class F, 1.15 service factor, Class 1, Groups C & D. All motors will be CSA certified (Canadian Standards Association) and UL listed (Underwriters Laboratories) approved and nameplated accordingly. 3.2.3 3.2.4 3.2.2 3.1.4 2.9

All motors shall be manufactured in the United States of America The ability to provide any/all replacement parts, engineering design support, complete dynamometers testing, and UL rerate capability shall be provided domestically. Mechanical Bearings and Lubrication Bearings shall be ball, single row, deep groove or double row angular contact, Conrad type, and shall have a Class 3 internal fit conforming to AFBMA Std. 20. Bearings shall be selected to provide minimum L10 rating life that meet or exceed the requirements of the specific application. The motor shall be selected to limit the bearing temperature rise to a maximum of 60_C under full load conditions. Motors shall be greased by the manufacturer with a premium moisture resistant polyurea thickened grease containing rust inhibitors and suitable for operation over a temperature range of 25_C to +120_C. Shaft Seal Two independently-mounted mechanical face type seals shall be provided. The inner and outer seal shall be separated by an oil filled chamber. Double seal (back to back) configurations are not acceptable due to the potential for failure of both seals as a result of lodged solids. Similarly bellows-type and jacketed seal construction is also prohibited. The oil chamber shall act as a barrier to trap moisture and provide sufficient time for a planned shutdown. The oil shall also provide lubrication to the internal seal. Standard John Crane Type 21 or equal, UL listed seals shall be provided. Carbon rotating faces and ceramic stationary faces shall be considered standard. Optional seal construction including Tungsten Carbide, Silicon Carbide faces and use of Viton elastomers are acceptable alternatives. Viton elastomers are recommended for ambient of 61_C and higher. The outer seal construction shall be designed for easy replacement. The outer seal assembly will be designed to allow solids and particles to be thrown away from the seal face.

UL & CSA EXPLOSION-PROOF SUBMERSIBLE SPECIFICATION

3.2.5 In compliance with UL standards for explosion-proof motors, a flame path shall be provided by a labyrinth slinger in the bottom flange in order to prevent the ignition of ambient gases. Under such conditions the seal design shall allow for pressure relief across either seal face. The labyrinth slinger will not prevent the gases inside the motor from igniting, but should such an ignition occur the flame will not propagate the slinger clearances to ignite the gases or vapor surrounding the motor. 3.3.0 3.3.1 Moisture Protection System Dual (2) moisture sensing probes are to be provided that extend into the oil chamber located between the outer and inner seal and used to detect the presence of moisture should the outer seal fail. This system must be UL listed for hazardous locations. The moisture probe system does not have to be UL approved because it is completely inside the explosion-proof enclosure. The moisture protection system shall also be designed to detect water in the motor chamber and provide a warning signal prior to water levels reaching the bearing or wound stator assemblies. The use of a single moisture probe or float switch system is not UL listed and shall be considered not acceptable. Cap/Cable Assembly The power cable and cap assembly shall be designed to prevent moisture from wicking through the cable assembly even when the cable jacket has been punctured. Power and control cable entry into the lead connection chamber shall be epoxy encapsulated for positive moisture sealing. Compression type fittings or connectors shall be considered not equal. The use of Terminal boards for sealing purposes are not acceptable. A Buna-N power and control cable grommet shall be provided in addition to the epoxy sealed leads. Acceptable cables and materials such as Neoprene, Hypolon, & Viton shall be UL listed & CSA certified and listed on the jacket of the cable. Enclosure and Shaft The motor enclosure including: frame, end brackets, flange and cap assembly shall be cast iron, ASTM type A-48, Class 25 or better. 3.5.9 3.5.6 3.5.2

Motor frame construction will be a smooth surface or may have a special fin surface. The surface must be designed to prevent the clogging of solids and provide for easy cleaning. The top end bracket will include integrally cast provisions for vertical lifting capability. All mating frame fits to have rabbet joints with large overlap as well as O-ring seals for water tight seal. Standard O-ring shall be Buna-N (nitrile), Viton O-rings may be supplied as an option and are required for ambient conditions of 61_C and higher. Motor shaft shall be one piece 416 stainless steel. 303, 304, 316, 410, 17-4 PH, Carpenter 20 Nitronic 50 stainless steel or all type of Monel may be specified as options. All external hardware including motor nameplates shall be made of stainless steel. Motor rotor construction shall be die cast aluminum or fabricated copper or their respective alloys. Rotors on frames 213TY and above shall be keyed to shaft and rotating assembly dynamically balanced to NEMA limits per MG1-12.05. Balance weights if required, shall be secured to the rotor resistance ring or fan blades by rivets. Machine screws and nuts are prohibited. All exposed motor parts including frame, brackets, flange, and cap assembly shall receive an alkyd prime and epoxy ester finish coat of high grade paint to resist rust and corrosion. Electrical All motors shall successfully operate under power supply variations per NEMA MG1-14.30. Motors shall be designed to limit the maximum surface temperature to NEC specifications for Division 1; Class 1, Group D or Class 1, Group C & D for hazardous locations. All motors shall be NEMA Design B or A with torque and starting current in accordance with NEMA MG1-12. Motors shall have copper windings.
