The Most Important Thing We Can Do Is Pray
If you love your church...if you want the Holy Spirit to flood into Central...if you want us to reach people with the love of Christ...if you want Central to grow and thrive...the most important thing you can do is pray. The congregational meeting last Sunday was wonderful. Often such meetings are dry as dust and endured rather than enjoyed. But I sensed joy and excitement and a shared feeling that God is going to do wonderful things in and through Central. But we must pray. No church becomes truly alive in Christ without prayer; no church finds the courage and resources to face down the powers of sin and darkness without prayer; no church truly changes lives without prayer. Its wonderful to pray alone, but I encourage you, if your schedule permits, to become part of the weekly FOCUS prayer group (FOCUS stands for Focusing on Christ Using Scripture). We meet Tuesdays at noon in Sandys office. While we share personal prayer requests, we mostly pray for the church and the people of the church. Please join us - regularly if you can, or occasionally if thats what your schedule permits. Uncomfortable praying out loud? No worries - just come and pray silently. At the congregational meeting yesterday we distributed sign-up cards for people to become a Central Host and/or join the new Media Team. I completely forgot to ask you to fill out the cards at the end of the meeting - so they will be in the bulletins the next two Sundays. Hosts will take the place of greeters and be responsible for seeking out and welcoming guests to Central in much the same way wed welcome guests to our homes, helping them find their way to the nursery, Sanctuary, restrooms, providing wheelchair assistance, introducing them to church folk and giving them a thank-you gift bag. By the way, we are in need of wheelchairs! Our current ones are about worn out. If you have a gently used wheelchair youd like to donate to the church, please contact Bertie at 717-264-4113, M-F, 8am - 4pm. The Media Team will be responsible for running the sound, video and lighting at our worship services. If youre not going to be in church to fill out a sign-up card, please contact me and well get you signed up. Many of you were moved by the song our guest preacher Bruce Clemence sang at the conclusion of his sermon. You will find the lyrics on page 2.

Church Family
Thank you....
Dear Central Church & Church Family, Thank; you so much for the arrangement of beautiful flowers donated from Ed and Sookie Fisher. Eric Mellott delivered them to me on Sunday, February 9th. I appreciate you thinking of me. Sincerely and God Bless, Dorothy G. Zullinger

Continued from The Pastors Notes My Time to Leave Bruce Clemence I was a child in a big churchyard, and it seemed so far to the steeple I was a boy singing Sunday songs, all about such long-ago people But the feel of the sun on my face What I could see and could taste Were all I needed of grace, All I wanted of grace I was a kid, I was on the road I had oats to sow, I was runnin' I was young and I drank my wine, I had years of time to be dumb in But the years somehow start to go wrong And the places you thought you were strong Are the places you're coming undone, You find you're undone Choru And there's a mist falling over the mountain There's a fog rolling in from the sea And I know that my time Has never been mine And the earth's gonna turn without me But I'm still in love with the mountains And the earth, how it runs to the sea. Still I trust in the Life Beyond sin and strife But please God just be there with me When it's my time to leave I was a man who had done so much, And it wasn't what I expected. In the fire and flood I took what I could, Ran from those I should have protected Good intentions are sand On only one thing I stand The blood of a blameless man, the blood of the Lamb Chorus

ac
With deepest gratitude from our local Missions: On behalf of the staff and board of directors at NETwork Ministries, thank you for your generous support as we share in the love of Jesus with those who are most vulnerable in our community during 2013. Sincerely, Denver Martin Assistant Treasurer Thank you so much for once again allowing us to hold the Snowfall Ball at Central Presbyterian Church. It is a fantastic facility and we appreciate your hospitality! Robin Harmon and The Snowfall Ball Committee We at Maranatha Food Pantry are very appreciative of your recent donation of the cart of food. With the current economy and the number of families having great difficulty, it is a great blessing for us to be able to provide for those in need. Bennett Newcomer Director

For three Wednesdays during Lent we are planning to have half-hour musical meditations in the sanctuary of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg. These will begin at 12 noon and last approximately half an hour. Each will begin and end with organ meditations. In the middle will be other instrumental or vocal offerings. March 12 will include Pat McNamee on clarinet; March 19 will include Dani Kardisco, vocal; and March 26 will include Valerie Merriman on piano. Helen Wingert will be organist. This is simply a time to come meditate and pray-- a time for quiet reflection. All are welcome!

JOY VILLAGE UPDATE

Nine months ago, two sisters were admitted to Joy Village, having been found abandoned and at risk. Recently they were notified that their birth mother had been found dead in a Nairobi bar. Its unknown whether there were good times and love with their mother, or just the misery of her addiction and abuse. But the girls needed to go to the funeral, to say goodbye one last time. This time they werent alone. Their Joy Village mom, Lucy, was at their side and held their hands. After the funeral the new family returned to Joy Village and were greeted by seven loving brothers and sisters, each of whom had had their own experience with grieving, and had found love, acceptance and help in Joy Village. Joy Village serves a God who comforts us in all our affliction. Corinthians 1:4

Sharing and Caring in Lent Comfort Kits for the Homeless DONATION DATES = MARCH 5 thru APRIL 13
Lent is a season of remembering what Jesus did for us on the cross. It is a time to reflect on His great love and a time to re-align our lives to reflect that love to others. During Lent we will be collecting items to make Comfort Kits for the homeless. Heres how it works.. Purchase the following items and bring them to the church. Items are placed into individual large Ziploc bags. Families take one (or more) of the bags and have them in their cars. As they see a person in need, they simply roll down the window and hand the person a comfort kit.

ITEMS NEEDED FOR EACH KIT: Bottle of water Wash cloth Bar of soap Liquid anti-bacterial soap Wet-wipes Toothbrush & toothpaste & floss Granola bars Cheese crackers, peanut-butter crackers, etc. Socks Gloves Tissues Fast food gift card for $5.00
All items except the gift card can be purchased at a dollar store. You can donate some items each week; or all at once. A large blue tub is located in the church foyer to place the items. Our Sunday School children will pack the bags on Palm Sunday. They will add verses of encouragement and pray for those who will receive the kits. Jesus gave his life for us! Giving to those in need is a wonderful way for us to show how thankful we are and how much we love HIM!

This year's 30 HOUR FAMINE was a great success! The high school youth enjoyed participating in "The Hungry Games", where their stomachs were empty, but their minds and bodies were busy! We experienced three missional focuses (USA, Haiti, and Africa), went on an Amazing Race around the church, competed in relays, build a faux-campfire, and dug into God's word! We are so grateful to be able to spend quality time with each other, learning and growing in God's kingdom. What a blessing you all are to us!

Centrals Gems Need You! We are looking for a few folks who would be willing to learn how to operate the video system in the Sanctuary for the 2nd Service on Sundays. The training only takes a short amount of time, equipment is easy to operate and you would be doing a great service to those who are unable to attend services on a regular basis, especially Centrals Gems. Please consider this very worthwhile ministry for your brothers and sisters in Christ. If interested you may reach Sue Stahl by calling the church office at 264-4113.

STEPHEN MINISTRIES
If youre experiencing the loss of a loved one, suffering with a long term illness, a terminal illness, or if youre lonely and have no one else to turn to, perhaps a Stephen Minister could assist you through those troubling times. To contact Trena Oyler please call the church at 264-4113.

CARE PACKAGES FOR CPC COLLEGE STUDENTS

For the past 14 years a very loving ministry at Central Presbyterian Church has been to send goodie boxes to Centrals college students near and far. Your generosity in donating items has been appreciated over the years as has your monetary support which goes toward other items that may be needed to make the packages complete. If you could find time to donate just a small amount of your time, just once a month, to help pack boxes, youd be showing your love even more. It would also make a great family project. You can reach Sue Stahl by contacting the church office at 717-264-4113 or catch up with her on Sunday mornings at church. Chambersburg Meals on Wheels Services for the Homebound is desperately in need of drivers, delivery partners and volunteers to help assemble meals for delivery. The commitment is every other week for 1-1/2 hours to 2 hours in the morning. If interested in volunteering, please call Rena Moore at 2637228 between the hours of 7am10am, Monday through Friday. Meals on Wheels is committed to serving a hot balanced noontime meal to the homebound and elderly of our community.
