Metro Manila LED LAMP PORTABLE DC GENERATOR or 2BIG POWER & TUBIG-POWERED MACHINE Stevenson Steve Rejuso invented

the LED Lamp Portable DC Generator or simply known as 2BIG POWER. The invention generates electricity and enables to light its LED bulb using water as a fuel. Along with 2BIG POWER, he also invented the Tubig-powered Machine prompted with the shortage of electricity in their area. The device can light a flashlight, a lamp post, charge batteries and battery pack of cellular phones or even power a transistor radio and can light a village for two weeks. Same with his 2BIG POWER, it generates electricity using water. 2BIG POWER is safe to use compared to the candles and oil lamps as source of light. It is more economical and environment-friendly. On the other hand, Tubig-powered Machine is now functioning at Brgy. Greater Lagro, Quezon City, Metro Manila. His inventions are very useful especially in areas where electricity is scarce. He is aiming to reach far-flung places of the Philippines where service of electricity is not available. Metro Manila MOSES or MOBILE OPERATIONAL SYSTEM FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through Project NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards) has come up with a tablet device aptly called MOSES or Mobile Operational System for Emergency Services. MOSES is a tablet capable of receiving real-time weather and flood information reports from DOSTs Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and Project NOAH that local officials, down to the barangay level, can access for accurate decision-making eventually to prevent massive destruction and casualties. MOSES also provides Doppler radar sensor data, water level sensor data and measurements culled from gauges strategically located in different high-risk areas. Also available in the tablet is a hazard map that is updated in real time. Metro Manila PROJECT NOAH or NATIONWIDE OPERATIONAL ASSESSMENT OF HAZARDS Project NOAH is the Department of Science and Technologys (DOST) response to t he call of President Benigno S. Aquino III for a more accurate, integrated, and responsive disaster prevention and mitigation system, especially in high-risk areas throughout the Philippines. The Project will harness technologies and management services for disaster risk reduction activities offered by the DOST through PAGASA, PHIVOLCS, and the DOSTAdvanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), in partnership with the UP National Institute of Geological Sciences and the UP College of Engineering.

Laguna FIRST BOTTLE CLASSROOM IN ASIA The Plastic Bottle Mo, Kinabukasan Ko project of the provincial government together with former actor/model and architect Illac Diaz, known for his ecological structures and other sponsors, has unveiled the model classroom. Diaz of My Shelter Foundation said that they have thought of using plastic bottles to save the environment and for economic reasons. Plastic bottles are known to decompose only after 700 years. He also said that instead of burying them as garbage under the ground, they thought of making them rise as buildings. A mixture of cement and sand is placed inside each plastic bottle and in between bottles. It takes about 2 months, longer than the normal construction of concrete, but it is more worth it. It is even stronger than hollow blocks as tested by the Mapua Institute of Technology. It's a technique the Spaniards used, proof why our old churches still exist. Cagayan Valley ETHERNET CONTROLLER CHIP Diosdado Banatao, the man behind the said innovation is a native of Cagayan Valley who graduated at the Mapua Institute of Technology. This innovation is an integrated circuit chip that controls Ethernet communications. It is the medium that most computers utilize to communicate with one another. Because of this, it has changed the way information is gathered and transmitted and made computers indispensable tools. Taguig City SINAG: THE FIRST PHILIPPINE SOLAR POWERED CAR The first solar powered car is the SINAG, based in De La Salle University in the Philippines, (Filipino for "sunray") and became the first entry of the Philippines to the World Solar Challenge. The solar car was inaugurated last January 27, 2007 at NBC Tent, Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The SINAG solar car was designed and constructed by a dedicated group of faculty and students from the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Electronics and Communications Engineering Department of De La Salle University-Manila, with the help and partnership of Ford Group Philippines, San Miguel Corporation, Motolite, Shell, Sunpower, Philippine Airlines and Ventus. The solar panels used by the SINAG solarpowered car were manufactured by Sun Power. The body of the car was made of carbon fiber as well as Nomex, or aramid fiber, so as to keep the vehicle light. It is painted with the Philippine colors. The SINAGs official weight is 295 kilograms. Bacolod City POLY-GREEN TECHNOLOGY Mr. Jayme M. Navarro invented and perfected the poly-green technology, a process where plastic materials can be converted to both diesel and gasoline fuel oil. Through this technology, assorted plastics are first shredded into tiny pieces and are put in an agglomeration chamber where it enters a feeding screw. This innovation promotes the reduction of solid waste pollution that will surely save the planet.

Cebu City MINIMALLY INVASIVE CARDIAC SURGERY (MICS) The Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery was invented by Francis Duhaylongsod, a Filipino heart surgeon in Hawaii. The first minimally invasive heart cardiac surgery was performed in the United States on January 21, 2005 at The Heart Institute at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, New York by a team led by Dr. Joseph T. McGinn. This technique is an off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery. The procedure is much less invasive than traditional bypass surgery because it is performed through three small incisions rather than the traditional sternotomy. Since its first procedure, over 900 MICS CABG procedures have been performed at The Heart Institute amongst many more around the world. Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery is favored by surgeons and patients because of reduced post-operative discomfort, faster healing times and lowered risk of infections or complications. Batangas MECONIUM DRUG TESTING The use of meconium in the testing the mothers abuse of drugs during the course of pregnancy is pioneered by Dr. Enrique Buddy Ostrea, a Filipino medical doctor known for his researches in pediatrics. Meconium drug testing can detect maternal drug use during the last 4 to 5 months of pregnancy. A negative result does not exclude the possibility that a mother used drugs during pregnancy. Detection of drug use depends on the quantity and quality of the specimen tested as well as the pattern and frequency of drug(s) used by the mother. Although not likely, drugs administered during labor and delivery may be detected in meconium. Interpretive questions should be directed to the laboratory. The concentration at which the screening test can detect a drug or metabolite varies within a drug class. The concentration value must be greater than or equal to the cutoff to be reported as positive. Caloocan DeWART, DeMOLE & DeBCC Rolando dela Cruz came up with DeBCC that combats skin cancer by reformulating his amazing cream that gets rid of warts and moles without surgery. He was able to formulate a cream to remove warts and moles on the skin and later, a painless treatment for the most common type of skin cancer, which the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) recently hailed as the outstanding invention of the year. A former barber in Caloocan City, Dela Cruz recalled seeing scars on the faces and necks of his clients, and would ask them about the scars.

Laguna SOLAR-POWERED INCUBATOR Members of the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology at the University of the Philippines Los Baos developed an incubator that can help duck eggs to develop into balut --- that is, a fertilized egg --- while being fueled by solar power. The machine covers an area of about 5 square meters. Heat emanates primarily from a solar-powered water heater, with photovoltaic cells to regulate the heat inside the incubator. The machine could double the income of Filipino farmers. Negros Occidental MANUALLY OPERATED EXTRUDER MACHINE This machine was invented by Ydsan Franz Dongon, a student of Negros Occidental National High School that managed to conceptualize an innovative idea that tackles both the issue of coal production and waste management by creating a machine that makes leaf briquettes which can be used as a substitute for coal. He fashioned this machine using scrap metals and PVC pipes. Unlike, ordinary charcoal that is made from burned wood, the materials used to make the eco-friendly coal come from dried mahogany leaves or sugarcane farm waste that is abundant in the region. Metro Manila BANANA SHOOT-TIP CULTURE The banana shoot-tip culture, better known as tissue culture, is a rapid micro-propagation technique that produces disease-free plantlets at minimum cost. One banana sucker can produce a maximum of 1,500 plantlets in eight months. It is a reliable means of mass-producing planting materials for commercial banana farms. It can also produce a significant number of planting materials with relatively uniform traits. Such uniformity is important in producing quality planting materials needed to advance the competitiveness of the industry both in the local and international market.
