ID-96 Annotated Bibliography "7, Gender and Family." 7, Gender and Family. Social Innovation Fund, n.d. Web.

13 Feb. 2014. This talks about the gender equality within family structures. This article discusses the logic families obtain when referring to gender. Families have the belief that there are certain gender roles that should be respected within different familial structures. This also throws light upon how different countries throughout the European Union have noticed the gender issue about taking parental leave. The parental leave issue essentially ties in with the injustice of the difference in pay between genders. Because women are paid essentially less than men are for certain jobs, it is easier on the familial budget if women took the parental leave instead of men since parental leave covers up to only 70% of the regular pay. The author takes the side that societal factors are what causes the perspective that creates gender inequality in the first place. The author's piece continues to pose how much culture ties

into everything and what childhood actually does for the development of a person and a person's views.

"Gender Roles-Interviews with Kids." YouTube. YouTube, 20 Jan. 2011. Web. 26 Feb. 2014. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VqsbvG40Ww>.

This video is only somewhat credible, as it seems that those surveyed were varied, if all were children. Nevertheless, the video does ask and pose some very interesting concepts, such as when children recognize gender and how they identify with their own. This video, more than anything else, serves as an interesting starting point for the group, and what we could do.

This is an article about a young man who, after quitting from a job which did him no favour, decided to go on a job search, and in doing so, applied for many which he felt very qualified for, and would benefit from. After a few rejections and many times not even getting any response at all, he decided to take another look at his resume, and it occurred to him that his name, Kim, could be seen as one that of a female. With this in mind, he found much of the information he put on his resum backed this up as well. After making the one change of putting Mr. in front of his name, he got an interview the very next job he applied for and many subsequent jobs he applied for. In a quote from the article, In the end I beat out a very competitive short-list and enjoyed that job for the next few years, further enhancing my career. Kwong, Jessica. One Billion Rising to Promote Justice for Domestic Violence Victims.sfexaminer.com. The San Francisco Examiner, 6 Feb. 2014. Web. 7 Feb. 2014.<http://www.sfexaminer.com/sanfrancisco/one-billion-rising-to-promote-justicefor-domestic-violence-victims/Content?oid=2697805>. This journal is about the Board of Supervisors President David Chiu announced that Valentines Day would be the One Billion Rising for Justice Day, which is to gain awareness of ending violence against women and girls. In order to promote the goal, the activists have invited the victims and survivors of discrimination and rape to share their stories - the purpose of sharing is not trying to make people pity her, but to let people be aware of the incidents so that they would know where to report them and know how to prevent them. I think this event is meaningful because by inviting people to share their stories, it could make them (the victims) grow stronger and also to stop similar events happening in the communities. Kyung, Lee Jae, and Park Hye Gyong. "Measures of Women's Status and Gender Inequality in Asia: Issues and Challenges." Gender Watch. ProQuest, 2011. Web. 21 Feb.2014. <http://search.proquest.com.proxy.lib.csus.edu/genderwatch/docview/881215581/1AA2C 17E0CE645E6PQ/1?accountid=10358>.

Since our topic spans not only the United States, but rather the entire world, and since we, ourselves, the members of the coalition, are Asian, I thought that this piece was something that fit well with our topic. Working to understand how many countries in Asia tend to socially make women inferior to men and how ideas are being put into action to solve that, this piece counts as something credible that is relevant to our topic. Leigh, Suzanne. Young People Exploring Nonbinary Gender Roles. sfgate.com. Hearst Communications, Inc., 12 Feb. 2014. Web. 16 Feb. 2014. <http://www.sfgate.com/health/article/Young-people-exploring-nonbinary-gender-roles5225994.php#photo-5860512>. This source is about a person, S.E. Smith, who considered itself as ou is a genderqueer and ou has a different perspective on gender roles comparing to people in the modern society. In the interview that he had with the reporter of the article, he mentioned how people in the society/community (doctors, social workers, and therapists) are making transgender patients of choosing to be whether female or male; he rejected this concept because he would consider this is a traditional binary gender model. Besides, an executive and medical director of a clinic thinks that the role of a doctor is to educate (transgender) patients so that they can make the best choices for themselves. After reading this article, I think we as a group should not only telling people that there is no right or wrong to be certain genders, but also to promote and educate people (especially next generation) to have the concept of receiving information that is fair - try to stop encouraging people to emphasize the stereotypes between males and females.

Minguez, Almudena M. "Gender, Family and Care Provision in Developing Countries: Towards Gender Equality." Progress in Development Studies 12.4 (2012): 275-300. SAGE Publications. Web. 11 Feb. 2014. "MEN AGAINST RAPE: MALE ACTIVISTS VIEWS TOWARDS CAMPUS-BASED." Gender Watch. ProQuest, n.d. Web. 22 Feb. 2014. <http://search.proquest.com.proxy.lib.csus.edu/genderwatch/docview/304628871/1AA2C 17E0CE645E6PQ/2?accountid=10358>. This thesis paper was about the actions being taken in order for men on college campuses to recognize rape, and how it is not women, but fellow men who are spreading this

awareness of rape. It discusses a lot in terms of relevancy, including how many believe it is simply a women's issue, and how gender role has in fact played into it all. A look at "masculinity" and "femininity" as concepts that connect to this are analyzed as well. Pourriat, Eleonore. Oppressed Majority (Majorit Opprime English). Online video clip. Youtube. Youtube, 5 Feb. 2015. Web. 8 Feb. 2014. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4UWxlVvT1A>. This video describe how gender stereotyping and discrimination get to apply to men. In the video, characters identities are totally different than the modern societys standard men are taking parts of the duties at home, women are being less conservative (being naked and running on the sidewalk, and being rude). The main actor in the video is a victim of sexual harassment, and has portrayed stereotypes that women have been labeled. At the end, I think this video is a really nice education material that everyone should watch it at least once; the video is really a reflection of the social gender roles in nowadays, and it would make every single one of us to think about what and how should we do in order to eliminate gender discrimination and stereotyping? Therefore, I would like to include this source on our coalition website and project as a reference.

The research was done through a feminist sociological standpoint, framing the question with particular concern for power and inequality. Gender concepts continue to grow is the statement the article is trying to claim. These concepts eventually leads to gender inequalities and its outcome in society. In contrast, it also talks about the expectation of each gender within and outside a household or in other words, privately and publically. Sarmento, C. (2012). Culture, politics and identity: Critical readings on gender in Southeast Asia. Indian Journal of Gender Studies, 19(3), 437-467. doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/097152151201900305 This article discusses mainly about the exploration of the negotiation and evolution of gender concepts in Southeast Asian countries. Imagine a workplace free from gender inequality. We have come a long way for creating a safe and healthy work environment for women and that women have career development and leadership role opportunities. But you will be surprised that there is much work still to be done. It is up to us to continue to push for achieving genuine gender equity and realize true empowerment in the workplace for this and coming generations of women. Statistics on Discrimination of Women. WordPress.com. WordPress.com, n.d. Web. 7 Feb. 2014. <http://filipspagnoli.wordpress.com/stats-on-human-rights/statistics-ondiscrimination/statistics-on-discrimination-of-women/>. This source has a lot of statistics related to discrimination on women in different categories, such as gender inequality in work, education, politics and proper rights etc. Each of the subtopic has different charts (data) to support the its topic - for Gendercide, the blogger pointed out the statistics of unbalance genders in most of the Asian countries (especially China), along with the charts and analysis. Furthermore, the introductions of different categories have also explained different terms like G.D.I. (Gender-Related Development Index) and G.E.M. (Gender Empowerment Measure) etc. These terms allowed us to get to understand where to get more information to support the chart, and also to know what are charts trying to tell us. Since our project is to let out audience (students, community) to have a better understanding on what are deconstructing gender roles and gender stereotyping, we would definitely need these data to support our presentations and events that are going on in the following weeks. Therefore, I think this source would be another good reference for us to merge in our project. Steinmetz, Jania, Janine Bosak, Sabine Sczesny and Alice H. Eagly. Social Role Effects on Gender Stereotyping in Germany and Japan. Asian Journal of Social Psychology 17.1 (2014): 52-60. Wilney Online Library. PDF file. <http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ajsp.12044/pdf>. This journal is really useful because the authors of the paper brought out views of other authors from different sources, such as the difference between the roles of women and men in both Eastern and Western independent self construal. Besides, they have also mentioned the observation of how women and men in the same social role would help eliminating gender stereotyping, which is a really good reference for us to merge it into our project. Also, this journal has provided statistics about the main study that they have been talking about since the beginning - the mean agency and communion ratings on men and women in both Germany and Japan. Therefore, I think this source is considerable because of the varies of the points/evidences they have been mentioning. "The Gender Equality Paradox - Documentary NRK - 2011." YouTube. YouTube, 09 Dec. 2011. Web. 26 Feb. 2014. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LRdW8xw70>. In many ways, I do believe that this source is credible, despite the fact that it is found on Youtube. A documentary started in Norway, this film actually has a man that proceeds to ask the question of why there is gender inequality and what exactly causes it. It's

credibility comes from the fact that he asks experts in a variety of fields, what causes the issue. Taking each into account, he proceeds forward. It is the fact he asks the experts in a variety of sciences from prestigious universities that continued to add to his credibility. With it all, he explores what is known not only in Norway, but around the world. As a result, he comes to the conclusion that gender inequality does have its paradoxes, as it deals with both biological factors and societal.

This article is about the ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act) , which concerns the LGBT community. It deals with the Beau Crow law that Arizona, like many other states have been allowed to pass since LGBT discrimination was not protected under federal law or the law of 29 states. However, now that ENDA was finally passed through both houses of Congress, it is making it illegal for employers to discriminate against employment based on the sexual orientation of the employee.
