B. Lesson Proper 1. Motivation Class, do you know someone who works and study at the same time? Okay, imagine that you are in a situation where you need to work in order for you to fund your expenses in school and daily living. Imagine that you are already an orphan. 2. Presentation Today, we are going to read a story about a person who is in that certain situation. I will give you 5 minutes to read it quietly. (Students read quietly.) He is a working student. What is the unexpected reward in the story? Why was it given? To whom was it given? The unexpected reward is a raise or increase in salary. They are verbs, teacher. What are verbs, class? Verbs are words which express actions, Well, verbs? Perhaps, they look like state of being or occurrence. verbs but, actually, these words do not function as a verb. These are called verbals. 3. Discussion None, teacher. Do you have any idea about verbals? Verbals are verbs in form, but it functions as another part of speech. Let us have the sentences from the story as examples. Choose (Students count off.) your leader and give me a list of the members of your group. (Teacher does the same with the other groups and designates areas for each group.) I will give you 5 minutes to prepare and 2 minutes per group to present. Now, to all the group leaders, pick a paper which conatins your tasks. You may now go to your respective places. (Students prepare their presentations.) Okay, time is over. Let us start with group 1. (Presents a song with verbals.) Very good, group 1. You see, class, verbals are also evident in songs. Let us have group 2, now. Very comprehensive, group 2. Well, (Presents a news cast using verbals.) class, verbals are also used in news cast, not just in songs. Let us have group 3 in front. You know, class, verbals are just another way for you to say things. It is a tool for you to converse better with the language. 6. Values Integration You see, class, verbals are words in the form of verb but function as different parts of speech just like the main character in the story, Toting. Aside from being a student, he is also a janitor who provides for his education. In life class, one may encounter circumstances where one must perform different responsibilities.

Evaluation Answer the following in a whole sheet of paper. Copy and answer. A. Make a Venn diagram comparing verbals and verbs. B. Underline the verbals in the sentences and identify whether it is a gerund, infinitive, or participle. Write your answer before each number. 1. Toting works as a janitor to study. 2.
