We all live in Accra, but can we just imagine all we can find what ever you did’nt expect
in our beautiful country, locally? Possibly, the Trade Fair will to find in Accra, you found
have the answers ! it at the Fair Trade !
As for me, I’ve been very happy to find a lot of suppliers of roof
tyles (for my house in Ada!), a very complete shop of lingerie
(for me!), suppliers of children’s furnitures (for my spoiled
kids!) and much much more !! This, plus the novelties of the
foreign exhibitors coming to discover Ghana’s market !

The two-week fair on the theme,“NETWORKING TO UNLOCK

GHANA’S TRADE POTENTIALS,” has created the platform for busi-
ness opportunities for the exhibitors.
Speaking with the paper last Monday, the public relations
manager of the Ghana Trade Fair Company, Mr Joe Welsing,
said adequate preparations had been made for a successful
fair.Esther Ofori, chief executive officer of the Trade Fair
Company, said that measures had been put in pace to ensure
adequate security on the fair grounds. For the opening cere-
mony were present many officials, the President and the
deputy ministry of trade and industry.
For many visitors, the fair is an opportunity to
discover many items available and made in
Ghana.
This fair gives the chances to many small busi-
nesses to establish an excellent network with
various partners.Since the first edition, ten year
ago a long path has been followed, the budget for
the organizer has been multiplied by 5 and the
reservation are booked at least six month
before the event.
For the ministry of trade and industry the trade
fair is made to encourage any Ghanaian business to
become as successful as possible.

APPLE EVENT
AT DEALERS
MEGASTORE!
On February 28th, Dealer Megastore organised an
Apple event at their premises in Osu, next to
Frankies.This was in collaboration with Micro
Conseil International (M.C.I.), the Apple representa-
tive for Africa.
During that event, MCI confirmed that Dealer
Computers is the official Apple Reseller for Ghana .
He gave an update about the latest Apple to Dealers'
friends and Apple users in Accra.
After a brief introduction from Mr. Hussein Fakhry,
DEALER's Managing Director, Mr Jihad Bou Samra,
Area Sales Manager for Apple products in West
Africa presented the latest iMac Intel base as well
as the MacBook Pro. He then demonstrated iWork
'6 and iLife '6, highlighting their new functions in
iPhoto to show pictures. The new themes of
iMovie, the Magic DVD function of iDVD, iWeb for
creating Blogs and the new Podcasting functions of
GarageBand, were some of the fascinating
highlights of his presentation. There were more than
70 attendants who were captivated by the power of
the new products, especially the ease of use and
handling!
After the presentation there was a raffle draw
during which 3 people won an iPod each! This
was followed by a cocktail where participants
exchanged comments and shared their experiences
about the Happy Users of Mac intosh!
M.C.I., with the help of Dealer Computers,
reaffirmed their commitment to provide the best
service to the Apple community in Accra.
Dealer Computers has been very successful in
providing Dell, Hp, Epson and Toshiba products and
services to it's clients and will be providing the
same quality of services to the Apple Users in
Ghana.

The event was Ghana’s biggest
music festival - The Ghana Music
Public Awards Night.This event
which was initiated some six
years ago witnessed the largest
crowd ever as Ghanaians,
Nigerians, South Africans,
Congolese and others from
various parts of the world
trouped-in to be part of the 7th
Ghana Music Awards Festival.
Right before the commencement
of the show at 8pm, hundreds of
individuals could be seen in three
endless queues that started all
the way from the main entrance
lobby to the main gate of the
Conference Centre. They were
either waiting to enter or bid to
buy tickets at the gate.
When the show began, the
excitement that appeared on the
faces of the audience spelt out
one thing - They were simply glad
to be part of the greatest music
event in the entertainment
calendar of Ghana.

reward 19 hardworking Ghanaian

 49YRS OF INDEPENDENCE?
How many of you really know about
the Capital city you live or work in?
Where did it get its name? What does it
mean? Imagine Accra 49 years ago, how
different is it comparing it to today? I
wonder if the development of the Capital
has matched the expectation of the
people living and working in Accra 49
years ago.
These are just some of the questions I
found myself asking, whilst watching the
Independence Day parade on TV. It made
me think about what I really know about
Accra & Ghana as a whole. What have
been some of the landmark events in
the past 49 years for the city of
Accra?

Finding information on Accra City, in
Accra, has not been an easy task. There
are too few public libraries in the Capital,
possibly two only. Why is that? Do we
not like to read? How do we educate
ourselves about our history and promote
it to others, if we have so few libraries
and resources to acquire information?
My only alternative to find the
information to write this article meant I
had to jump on the Internet and search
for the information I wanted. This led to
my second dilemma. Most of the
information I found from the sites were
very similar in content, and most of the
pieces were written from the perspective
of non-Ghanaians.
Does this mean that Ghanaians are not
writing, or are unable to publish their
own literature? In another 49 years, what
will people write and say about our
generation if we are not writing and
documenting ourselves. In time to come if
this trend continues will our history be
truly accurate & independent? Things
to think about, people!
Ghana’s big 50 is soon approaching and
will arrive at our doorstep in another 12
months. The international community will
have all eyes on Ghana whilst we mark &
celebrate this historical event.
So Enjoy Accra has decided with your help
to do a monthly feature on the history of
Accra, that informs and educates about
Accra City, it’s past, it’s future potential,
and what that will mean for the people
living & working here.

who has the answers to the questions I
asked earlier, or can make suggestions for
interesting stories, please let us know by

been known since
ancient Egyptians
first mixed it with

But it was Hippocrates who realized its
recuperative powers when used in moderation.
“Wine is fit for man in a wonderful way,
provided it is taken with good sense by the
sick as well as the healthy”, he observed.

Two thousand years later, at least eight medical

studies have suggested that a glass or two of
wine daily protects against heart disease.

The so-called French paradox has befuddled clini-

cians for years. Compared with North
Americans, the French eat almost four times
more butter and three times more lard, have
higher blood pressure and cholesterol, yet they
are 2.5 times less likely to die from a heart attack.

First, consumption of wine lowers the LDL or bad

cholesterol level, which is known to deposit in blood
vessel walls. Second, it increases HDL or good cho-
lesterol, the naturally occurring scavengers of LDL
molecules. Third, it acts as an anti-
coagulant, thereby helping to pre-
vent the formation of clots. Wine
has undoubted stress-relieving
properties, but its beneficial effect
s in this regard is difficult to quan-
tify. Last, but not least, is the
abundance of antioxidants con-
tained in wine and it is these prop-
erties that have aroused the most
interest.

Either a cruise on the Volta lake or
hiking on the highest mountain in
Ghana, Mountain Afadzato (afajato)

peak is now a forest reserve and is
home to many species that were
previously unknown: it has more than
300 species of butterflies & mammals.

Coach.. I am not a football expert like yourself, but even I can see, that your boys, I mean our
boys need to do less dribbling with the ball in their own half of the pitch, and let the ball do
the moving around the pitch. Our boys are great athletes and have natural dribbling ability,
we all know that, so would it not make more sense, that when in training, the boys practice
what they are NOT GOOD AT?

For example whilst training, why not make the boys play two touch football only.
Four men in a square box 20ft X20ft marked on the floor. 3 against 1, three players
collectively as a team have to keep the ball away from the single remaining player. The trick
here though is that the three players on the same team are only allowed to touch the ball
TWICE inclusive of passing the ball to their teammate. The single remaining player in the
center of the opposing trio tries to take away the ball using his feet only. He is not allowed to
physically touch them. If he is able to retrieve the ball, the person from whom he was able to
stop from passing to his team mate, then has to be the person in the middle fighting for the
ball, and so on. This exercise must be done within the confines of the box marked on the
ground.

This form of training does two things, builds stamina and much needed team understanding
among the players. I believe this type of technical exercise will help the boys support each
other better on the playing field, but as I said at the beginning of this letter I am not an expert
so I am not sure you will take this letter seriously if it ever reaches you anyway, but the
people who publish this magazine thought it may do so when I asked them if I could publish
this letter and they said yes, so I did.
