Sequence of Operations and Control Methods: Setting Up 1. Follow local signing-in procedures. When working on dirty water, clean water, munitions/explosive atmosphere or petroleum sites, refer to the relevant risk assessment and method statement. 2. Assess site hazards, in particular, potential slip/trip hazards and traffic. Make area safe before continuing, carry out site-specific risk assessment and record on form B066 3. Erect barriers where appropriate to prevent unauthorised access. With the compressor running: 4. Check for adverse vibration, noise and excessive temperature 5. Check condition of pipework and fittings, looking for any wear or corrosion 6. Check all valves and pipe work for air leaks 7. Check for oil leaks 8. Check function of pressure and vacuum gauges where fitted. 9. Check operation of pressure relief valve where fitted. 10. Check the function of all emergency switches With the compressor stopped: 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. Ensure that it is safe and appropriate to isolate the compressor. Isolate electrical supply to compressor and lock off isolator in accordance with HS06 Isolation Procedure De-pressurise system if removing any associated pipework Check oil level and top up If necessary with appropriate oil Check for oil leaks. Remove and clean/replace air intake and exhaust filters where fitted Where required remove outer casing and measure Carbon Blades and check for wear against manufacturers guidelines. Where worn beyond recommended manufactures guidelines, inform office on form B066 that a quotation for replacements are required. Operate condensation drain off valve where fitted to expel water in the system. Before opening, check that no-one is in the vicinity of the outlet of the drain off pipe (opening the drain off valve may be noisy). Where no drain off pipe is fitted, ensure that hands and other body parts are kept out of line of expelled air (risk of air injection into skin). Some systems may be fitted with auto blow-down valves. Ensure these operate correctly Check moisture separators where fitted and empty water traps where necessary and replenish oil reservoir. Check all mountings and fastenings for tightness. Return compressor to service. Report any defects or changes on the worksheet (B066). Electrically competent person to carry out current drawn electrical test in accordance with generic method statement GMS026 (electrical testing)
