Introduction to DSS
The study of decision support system (DSS) is not about computers. Although they play an integral role in the DSS world world, computers are just one part of the picture. The study of DSS is really about people-about how people think and make decisions, as well as how they act on and react to those decisions.

Definisi SPK
Sistem Pendukung Keputusan adalah sebuah sistem yang dikendalikan oleh satu atau beberapa pembuat keputusan, yang membantu aktifitas pembuatan keputusan dengan menyediakan dan mengorganisasikan satu set peralatan yang diharapkan memberikan porsi secara terstruktur pada pekerjaan pembuatan keputusan dan meningkatkan hasil keputusan yang paling efektif.

Benefits/ Limitation DSS

The managers should see the DSS as valuable tool in the decision process rather than as a mechanism for the making of the decision itself
Sebaiknya manager melihat bahwa SPK sebagai peralatan yang bernilai dalam proses keputusan lebih dari sekedar mekanisme untuk membuat keputusan itu sendiri

DSS cannot yet be designed to contain distinctly human decision-making talents such as creativity, imaginativeness, or intuition
SPK masih tidak dapat dirancang agar berisikan talenta manusia si pembuat keputusan seperti kreatifitas, imaginasi/ daya khayal atau intuisi/ gerak hati/ naluri.
