Storage of Materials 1nsure pipes & 4ointing materials shall be received in good condition. 1nsure pipes shall not be pushed or thrown on to ground from the vehicle. "ipes shall be stored at site on plane ground without undulations: on timber sleepers placed in one level: or pipe racks etc. and the following shall be adhered to*

Excavations 3ark all e=isting underground services during set out & obtain Work Permits before start of work: if contractually re<uired. Trial pits shall be taken to establish buried services. 1nsure e=isting structures shall not be affected due to e=cavations. %imension of trench shall be kept to a minimum possible. &n absence of the Customer (pecifications: width shall be 1.$ times pipe dia plus 2$0 mm or 500 mm whichever is greater.

The depth of bedding shall be 100 mm minimum: for granular bedding. The depth shall be 100 mm minimum for granular & concrete bedding and encasing. &f the pipes shall have fle=ible 4oints: fle=cell sheet or as per Contract (pecifications shall be provided upstream of each socket to partition the pipe surround fully. !ll temporary supports shall be removed before or during encasing.

Jointing >hen 4ointing rigid pipes with fle=ible ring or gasket 4oint: ensure all the 4ointing material & lubricant or sealant shall be of approved make or original spare. 1nsure 4ointing faces are smooth: clean & free from soil or bedding particles. @ay the spigot s<uarely & push home with lever or mechanical means B4ackC. "ipe end shall be protected by timber block. Clay ware pipes shall be 4ointed by filling them first with rope yarn for centering and then with 1*3 cement sand mortar. 3ortar shall be filled beyond socket. Curing shall be done for five days or as agreed with client. (olvent welding shall be done as per the manufacturerDs instructions. "ipe shall not be tested unless 4oints are set. "ipe shall be laid down as per specified gradients. Manholes & Chambers "recast 3anholes 1nsure 4oints between precast items are properly sealed.

"8C 3anholes 1nsure that only appropriate sealant are used and concrete surrounds is as per drawing or specification.

(tep &rons 1nsure that the spacing between step irons shall be 230 mm to 300 mm. Top step shall not be more than E$0 mm below surface & bottom step not more than ,$0 mm above the benching. &nterval between steps shall be constant. (taggering shall be 300 mm distance between vertical rows.

Covers &nspect covers before placement & ensure the lid shall not be placed in to the cover when bed mortar is still plastic. 3ortar shall be of 1 cement to 3 sand proportion or as specified.

'enching 1nsure benching shall be formed from the channel upto the height of the soffit of outlet: the radius 2$ mm and rise to a slope of minimum 1*12. 'enching shall be completed before placing the manhole cover.

(ide 'ranches 1nsure during layout that reverse flow is not being caused by any branch. >hen branch meets at an angle F0G or more: vertical & sides of benching shall be shaped to contain the flow.

Backfilling !fter bedding: laying & testing the pipe shall be surrounded with blown 6 give sand fill to specified depth. 'ackfill material shall not contain large rocks particles & other deleterious materials.

The side fill shall be placed evenly in 1$0 mm layers and temporary pegs are removed as work progresses. &f e=cavated material to be reused for backfilling: stones over ,0 mm siHe shall be removed. (urround shall be compacted by tamping until the pipeline is 1$0 mm cover. 3echanical rolling & compaction shall be done after filling ,$0 mm of surround material.

1nsure the following precautionary measures while laying of pipes*


(uitable fill material shall be used. "ipe shall be laid to specified line & elevation. &f laid on formation: the formation shall be properly compacted & inspected by the Customer: when contractually re<uired. (ockets shall be buried in bedding material such that pipe rests fully along the length of granular fill. >hen laying concrete bedding: socket portion shall be left open by providing polystyrene surround. ;le=ible 4oint near manholes: building entry etc. shall be kept as close to the structure Bma=imum 300 mmC as possible. The ne=t pipe shall be a small rocker piece of 500 mm length. >hen severe movement of pipe is anticipated: several rocker pipes shall be provided Be.g. at bends without anchorsC. esting

Anless directed otherwise: testing shall be carried out as follows*


;it plugs or bag stoppers at the lower end of the section of the pipeline & any other relevant branches under a test. ;it a plug or bag supporter with a tube leading to a water container at the highest end of the pipeline. ;ill & test to an internal pressure of 1.2 m above the invert of the pipe at the high end of the section pipeline and not more than 2., m head at the lower end. !llow the water level to stand for 2 hours: topping up the level: if necessary. !fter 2 hours: measure any loss of water by noting <uantity needed to maintain level in the container over a period of 30 minutes.
