9311 Macro ID configurations

This part describes the Node B RF configuration types.
In the digital shelf, the following hardware upgrades are possible:

CCM, iCCM, iCCM-2, and xCCM modules are interchangeable.

iCCM and iCCM-2 are mixable.
Note: iCCM-2 and xCCM cannot be mixed.
The duplex feature requires two iCCM/iCCM-2 modules.

The 9311 Macro ID configurations are the following:

Omni Transmission-Sectorial Reception (OTSR) configuration

Omni Transmission-Bi sectorial Reception (OTBR) configuration
Bi sectorial Transmission-Bi sectorial Reception (BTBR) configuration

Sectorial Transmission-Sectorial Reception (STSR) configuration

OTSR configuration

OTSR is the smallest configuration. It uses a single Power Amplifier and a 3-way
Transmit Splitter to transmit in the three directions. Each emitted signal has the same
power. On emission, the OTSR configuration is an equivalent to an omni-directional
transmission, thus the Node B is declared at the RNC as a single cell. On reception, the
OTSR configuration is equivalent to one of a 3-sector Node B in permanent 3-way softer
handover. Search and combination are systematically performed by one of the three
received signals. The OTSR configuration is only supported in UMTS 2100.
Note: The OTSR configuration is not supported with xCEM boards.
OTBR configuration

OTBR configuration is obtained from OTSR configuration. It consists in doing an OTSR

depopulation. On emission, the OTBR configuration is an equivalent to an
omni-directional transmission. On reception, the OTBR configuration is equivalent to one
of a 2-sector Node B in permanent 2-way softer handover. It uses a single Power
Amplifier and a 3-way Transmit Splitter with an adaptative 50-ohm load to transmit in the
two directions. The OTBR configuration is only supported in UMTS 2100.
BTBR configuration

BTBR is the standard two-sector configuration. It is obtained from STSR configuration

and consists in doing an STSR depopulation. The Node B is logically declared at the
RNC as two cells. The Power allocation with BTBR configuration is independent across
sectors.
STSR configuration

STSR is the standard three-sector configuration. The Node B is logically declared at the
RNC as three cells. The user equipment reports the measurements for the three sectors
and softer handover is controlled by the network.
The power allocation with STSR configuration is independent across sectors.

How to populate a Node B from an STSR1/BTBR1 configuration to an
STSR2/BTBR2 configuration?
To populate a Node B from an STSR1/BTBR1 configuration to an STSR2/BTBR2
configuration the following frequency ranges are considered:

In Uplink, two TRMs are needed. Each TRM receives one frequency carrier.

In Downlink, a simple upgrade from STSR1/BTBR1. The additional TRM is not used
for transmission. The existing TRM is configured to generate three 2-carrier signals
(for STSR2 configuration) or two 2-carrier signals (for BTBR2 configuration). In case
of a TRM failure:

Left hand TRM (initial TRM): the Node B could be re-configured in

STSR1/BTBR1
Right hand TRM (additional TRM): no operation

To upgrade an STSR2 configuration to an STSR2+1 configuration, do the following:

Replace the two iTRMs with two xTRMs/xTRMs-2, or add one xTRM/xTRM-2 to
the existing xTRM/xTRM-2
Resize the CEMs
Add three MCPAs
Configure an additional frequency carrier (f3)

Configure three more cells (7, 8, and 9)

To upgrade an STSR1+1 configuration to an STSR2+1 configuration, do the

following:

Replace the two iTRMs with two xTRMs/xTRMs-2, or add one xTRM/xTRM-2 to
the existing xTRM/xTRM-2

Resize the CEMs

Configure an additional frequency carrier (f3)

Configure three more cells (7, 8, and 9)

To upgrade an STSR1+1 configuration to an STSR2+2 configuration, do the

following:

Replace the two iTRMs with two xTRMs/xTRMs-2, or add one xTRM/xTRM-2 to
the existing xTRM/xTRM-2
Resize the CEMs
Configure two additional frequency carriers (f3, f4)
Configure six more cells (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12)

The 9311 Macro ID supports the OTSR1, OTBR1, BTBR1, BTBR2, STSR1, STSR2,
STSR3, STSR1+1, STSR2+1, and STSR2+2 configurations.

STSR1+1 configuration is a two-frequency configuration in which each frequency has its

own separate power amplification path. Therefore, STSR1+1 configuration delivers twice
as much RF power offered by STSR2 configuration. Compared to STSR1 configuration,
STSR1+1 configuration provides a capacity increased by two, whereas STSR2
configuration provides a capacity increased by approximately 1.6.
In STSR1+1 configuration, the two frequencies (f1 and f2) comply with the following
rule: 4.6 MHz <= [f2 - f1] <= 55.2 MHz.
The 9311 Macro ID cabinets also support the following depopulated configurations:

STSR3 configuration is a three-frequency configuration in which both xTRMs/xTRMs-2

transmit the three frequency carriers (Tx = f1, f2, f3). One xTRM receives two frequency
carriers (Rx = f1, f2) and the other xTRM receives the third frequency carrier (Rx = f3).
In the case of MCPAs 60W, each frequency carrier has a Tx capacity of 20W, when
equally configured.

Note: MCPAs 60W-B 2100 MHz (see MCPA 60W (p. 6-95) section) can transmit
in the following modes:

111 mode: f1 + f2 + f3 at 20W + 20W + 20W

101 mode: f1 + f2 + f3 at 20W + 0W + 20W
The 101 mode is not supported at full RF power (30W + 0W + 30W)

In STSR3 configuration, the three frequency carriers (f1 < f2 < f3) must be contiguous,
which means the following:

4.6 MHz <= [f2 - f1] <= 5.1 MHz

AND
4.6 MHz <= [f3 - f2] <= 5.1 MHz

The 9311 Macro ID cabinets also support the following depopulated configurations:

6 sectors

In 6-sector configuration or 3+3 sector configuration, the Node B can manage up to six
sectors distributed in 2-cluster configuration, where each cluster can support up to three
sectors, and each sector up to two frequency carriers.
6-sector configuration enables the Node B to manage up to 12 cells, and therefore to
increase the Node B coverage and capacities.
6-sector configuration is seen as two times 3-sector, with Softer Handover allowed
inside each cluster (same frequency for all sectors), but not supported between the two
clusters. Mobility between clusters is realized through Soft Handover.
Since UA06.0, 6-sector Softer Handover is also supported with xCEM, for HSPA traffic.
These 6 sectors can be either two clusters of three conventional sectors (using TRM,
MCPA, and DDM), all supported by the Node B cabinet hardware, or one cluster of three
conventional sectors plus another cluster of three remote sectors (using Remote Radio
Heads (RRHs)).
The notation of the various configurations used in 6 sectors are:

For 6 local sectors: STSR-x - STSR-y

For 3 local sectors + 3 remote sectors: STSR-x - RRH-abc

The frequency-dependent DDM is compatible with the following standard UMTS
bandwidths:

For UMTS 2100:

2110-2170 MHz for downlink

1920-1980 MHz for uplink
For UMTS 1900:
1930-1990 MHz for downlink
1850-1910 MHz for uplink

For UMTS 900:

925-960 MHz for downlink
880-915 MHz for uplink

For UMTS 850:

869-894 MHz for downlink

824-849 MHz for uplink

The impedance of the radio interface is 50 ohm.

Radio cabling

7/16 connectors are located on top of the 9311 Macro ID cabinets.

The antenna feeders arrive as close as possible to the 9311 Macro ID cabinets. The
interconnection between the feeders and the jumpers is done outside9311 Macro ID
cabinets.
The number of feeders depends on the configuration type.

Iub interface physical description

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Iub interface physical description

The Node B provides an Iub interface to be backhaul connected to the network elements
(from RNC). The Iub interface is in charge of managing:

Physical layer management (configuration, alarm reporting)

Layer two (switching)

The Iub interface consists of the following links:

E1 link that respects ITU G703 or G704

T1 link based on ANSI standard
IP link

The raw data rate between Node B and RNC is 1.984 Mbps (for E1) and 1.53 Mbps (for
T1).
Depending on the data flow, ATM protocols AAL2 and AAL5 are used on the physical
link between the Node B and the RNC.
Iub backhauling can be optimized using Alcatel-Lucent 9500 Microwave Packet Radio
(MPR).
Hybrid Iub

The hybrid Iub interface consists of the following connectivity:

ATM/PCM connectivity for R99, HSDPA, or HSUPA signaling and OAM traffic
IP/Ethernet connectivity for HSPA traffic (HSDPA + HSUPA, or HSDPA only)
Note: Hybrid Iub bandwidth pools resiliency (default configuration)
When IP connectivity is lost, new HSPA calls are transferred on the ATM path.
If the ATM path is configured into separate pools (one dedicated for HSPA on IP, the
other shared with R99 on ATM), and the dedicated pool fails, then new HSPA calls are
put in the shared pool.

The hybrid Iub interface requires an xCCM module (configuration xCCM-4E1)

Hybrid Iub backhauling can be optimized using Alcatel-Lucent 9500 Microwave Packet
Radio (MPR).
Native IP Iub

The native IP Iub interface consists of a full IP/Ethernet transport on Iub interface. When
native IP Iub feature is deployed, the ATM/PCM connectivity is no more used on Iub.
The native Iub interface requires an xCCM module (configuration xCCM-GE)
PCM connection cables

D-sub connectors are located on top of the 9311 Macro ID cabinets.

The PCM cable is connected to the Iub port on the Node B bulkhead and to the
distribution frame.

Iub interface physical description

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Note: PCM cables vary according to the use of an iCCM or an xCCM module.
In the case of a 120-ohm network, the only equipment needed to ensure the PCM
connection is the 120-ohm PCM cable.
In the case of a 75-ohm network, it is necessary to have baluns (two baluns per PCM) to
ensure adaptation from the 120 ohm of the Node B to the 75 ohm of the customer
network. Two types of baluns can be used: BNC, 1.6/5.6, or SMZ type 43.

Four Base Band Units (BBU) at 64 CEs each
BBUs are multi-mode BBUs (m-BBUs) supporting DCH, HSDPA, and HSUPA.
Maximum of two HSPA BBUs (128 HSPA connections)
Support for compressed mode operation on DCH, HSDPA, and HSUPA
Up to two frequency carriers
Full six-cell support
Note: OTSR configuration is not supported with xCEM.

The xCEM is interchangeable and mixable with the iCEM/iCEM-2 module.

Technically, it can be replaced by an iCEM or an iCEM-2. However, the repair process
recommends to replace an xCEM by another xCEM.
A Node B can work with any mix of iCEMs/iCEMs-2/xCEMs.
Note: At initial release (UA05.1.1), maximum of two xCEMs per Node B.
The internal architecture remains unchanged between iCEM-2 and xCEM modules.

Core Controller Module (CCM)

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Core Controller Module (CCM)

The CCM is located in the Node B digital shelf. In complete configuration, the highest
number of CCMs is two.
Main functions

The CCM provides the control and data routing functions for the Node B.
The CCM provides the following functions:

Iub interface
Call processing
Data switching and routing
OAM management

Node B frequency and timing reference

One CCM supports up to three wide-band carriers with transmit and receive diversity in a
tri-sectored carrier configuration.
Hardware description

The CCM consists of three cards:

BTS Router Interface Controller (BRIC)

Advanced Switch Engine (AXE)

CCM Interconnect Card (CCMIC)

BRIC

The BRIC provides the main processing and controls for the Node B. This card provides
the interfaces to the RNC through 8 T1/E1 links carrying ATM Iub.
The BRIC operates ATM internally (AAL2 for traffic, AAL5 for signaling and OAM) and
supports ATM AAL2/AAL5 backhaul to the RNC.
AXE

The AXE board provides the interface between the BRIC, the TRMs and the CEMs and
optionally receives timing reference signals from the GPSAM. The AXE functions
include Base-band signal routing and addition of signals between the CEMs and TRMs,
an ATM switch and timing reference distribution.
CCMIC

The CCMIC, which is a mini backplane, joins the interfaces between the BRIC and the
AXE boards. The CCMIC connects with CEM/TRM slots and a timing reference module
through the digital backplane.

integrated Core Controller Module (iCCM)

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

integrated Core Controller Module (iCCM)

The iCCM is the second generation of CCM used in all Node B products. It is based on a
single PCB design, whereas the CCM is based on a two-PCB design.
Main functions

The iCCM functionalities are similar to the CCM's, but it further provides the duplex
configuration (iCCM redundancy), as follows:

In case of switch-over, all communications are lost. But the OMC-B (the OAM part
which manages the Node B) is kept synchronized between active and passive iCCM.
When the iCCM is activated, it needs to be configured only by RNC.

The new call is established.

The following functions change in comparison with the CCM:

HSSPC: five HSSPC2 operating in dual device turbo have replaced the nine HSSPC2
operating in the single device turbo mode on the CCM
New routing table compared to the CCM: Rlink and Flink driver replaced by BBlink

Network FPGA on iCCM replaces Time Switch on CCM

The PSC functions is replaced by matching BSP function

One iCCM supports up to three wide-band carriers with transmit and receive diversity in
a tri-sectored carrier configuration.
Hardware description

The iCCM board is packaged into a dual slot iCCM module (iCCM board + filler board)
whose size is similar to the CCM module (50 mm wide).
The connectors on the front panel are the following:

Port 1 (Ethernet 10Base-T) used for Ethernet access

Port 2 (Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-T) used for TIL connection

Transceiver Receiver Module (TRM)

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Transceiver Receiver Module (TRM)

The TRM is located in the Node B digital shelf. In complete configuration, the Node B
cabinet supports up to four TRMs.
Alcatel-Lucent provides the following TRM module types:

The TRM 1900, which delivers up to four PCS 1900 (W-CDMA) carriers on a single
output including control loop to fix the level at MCPA input.
The TRM 2100, which delivers up to four UMTS (W-CDMA) carriers on a single
output including control loop to fix the level at MCPA input.

The two TRM types have the same functionalities.

Main functions

The TRM contains the transmit/receive circuitry for three transmitting chains and six
receiving chains.
Downlink path

The TRM (dTRM) receives up to six signals from the CCM. These downlink samples are
transferred to the Tx channelizers. The channelizers perform chip level modulation, peak
power reduction, filtering, and then deliver the signals (three maximum) to the D/A
converters of the TRM (rTRM).
In the analog domain, the digital signals are transformed into RF signals through D/A
conversion, modulation, filtering/amplification and translation operations. The final RF
signals have the appropriate level to drive the MCPA.
The total transmitted power is proportional to the data rate of the codes and the number of
these codes (communications). A power control adjusts each RF signal to optimize the
total interference level noise between the Node B and the user equipment.
Uplink branch

The uplink branch handles three pair-received signals (main and diversity) that comes
from the antenna via a coupling system which separates transmission from reception.
These signals are filtered, amplified, demodulated, A/D converted and then transmitted to
the Rx channelizers in the digital domain.
The receiving channelizer receives the six A/D converter signals. It processes the data and
transmits them to the CCM.
Clock generation and recovery operation

The TRM also performs clock generation and recovery operation. The clock is recovered
from the link with the CCM, and sent to the TRM (rTRM). This board generates the clock
signals for the A/D converters of the receiving branch and the A/D converters of the
transmitting branch.

expandable TRM (xTRM)

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

expandable TRM (xTRM)

The xTRM is the third generation of Transmit Receive Module used in the Macro range
Node Bs. The xTRM is an enhancement of the iTRM.
The xTRM-2 is the second generation of xTRM, with higher reliability and lower power
consumption.
Alcatel-Lucent provides the following xTRM module groups:

The xTRM-2 2100 operates within the same frequency band as the MCPA 45W or
MCPA 60W-A modules.
Note: The xTRM-2 is not compatible with the MCPA 60W-B.
The xTRM 2100 operates within the same frequency band as MCPA-3 module.
The xTRM 900 (two carriers) operates within the same frequency band as SCPA 900
55W module.
The xTRM 850 operates within the same frequency band as MCPA 850 module.
Note: In the following sections, the generic term xTRM is used for xTRM (only) or
xTRM/xTRM-2.

Main functions

In comparison with the iTRM, the main enhancements of the xTRM are the following:

Reception of two frequency carriers, instead of one

Only with xTRM : integration of the Base Band Pre-Distortion (BBPD) interface
which allows BBPD feedback loop
The xTRM-2 does not support BBPD.

The xTRM is controlled by a PQII processor which controls the Tx and Rx processing
paths.
The xTRM can be configured with:

xTRM-1R mode: only one carrier in uplink

xTRM-2R mode: two carriers in uplink

The xTRM is designed to be configured in xTRM-1R or xTRM-2R modes, in association

with four generations of MCPA modules (MCPA, MCPA-2, MCPA-3, and MCPA 60W)
or the SCPA module:

In xTRM-1R single-carrier mode (default operation mode), the second carrier is

locked and the xTRM has the same behavior as the iTRM.

The xTRM-2R dual-carrier mode is optional. This feature allows to use one xTRM
instead of two iTRMs in STSR2, STSR1+1, STSR3, or STSR2+1 configuration.
Contact your local Alcatel-Lucent representative for information about unlocking the
second carrier (the delivery of the WICL Scripts for xTRM Carrier Activation
(UMT/OMC/APP/015801) user guide is subject to the second carrier option payment).

Modules mixity

Alcatel-Lucent does not recommend to mix TRM/iTRM with xTRM modules within the
same Node B cabinet. In order to comply with this recommendation, newly ordered Node
B cabinets should only be equipped with xTRM modules. Concerning current Node B
equipment on customer Node B sites, if specific configurations require a mixity between
TRM/iTRM and xTRM modules, they must comply with the following mixity rules:

xTRM-2 can be mixed with TRM/iTRM/xTRM, provided the use of MCPA 45W or
MCPA 60W-A.
xTRM-1R, iTRM, TRM, and MCPA/MCPA-2/MCPA-3 can be mixed in the same
Node B cabinet.
Configurations mixing iTRM and xTRM-2R are allowed (not recommended). In those
configurations, the iTRM (not configured) is kept as a redundant resource in a
passive/not configured but supervised state.

Hardware description

The xTRM module consists of two boards:

The digital xTRM board (dxTRM):

The dxTRM performs interface functions to transmit/receive signal samples to/from
iCCM/iCCM-2/xCCM.
The downlink samples are transferred to up to six Tx channelizer Application Specific
Integrated Circuits (ASIC), which perform mainly pulse shaping, frequency shifting
and peak power reduction. Each ASIC can support one UMTS channel. The ASICs
can be cascaded so that the dxTRM transmits:
Three 1-carrier signals
or
Three 2-carrier signals
or
Two 3-carrier signals
Base-band signals are then processed to enable the pre-distortion of the radio signal,
according to the BBPD algorithm. Three PA feedback chains (one per PA) ensure the
down-conversion and Analog/Digital conversion of the RF TX signals to feed the
BBPD algorithm: this one compares the feedback samples to the transmit samples and
adjust automatically pre-distortion coefficients to minimize the error.
The BBPD processing function is set in transparent mode when xTRM is not
associated with MCPA 60W, but with conventional MCPA (i.e. not using external
feedback loops).
On the uplink, the xTRM allows the reception of up to six dual-carrier signals: it
manages the reception of two contiguous carriers on three sectors, including main and
diversity Rx paths. The dxTRM receives digital samples from the rxTRM (see next
bullet). These samples are digitally matched, filtered, and scaled by six Rx
channelizer ASICs, each one handling one main and one diversity signals.
The dxTRM retrieves configuration information and alarms via I2C buses from DDMs
and Tx splitter.
The radio xTRM board (rxTRM):
The rxTRM consists of three transmit chains and three dual-receive chains.

Compact Optical Interface Module with connectivity for one

optical fiber (C1OIM)

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Compact Optical Interface Module with connectivity for one

optical fiber (C1OIM)
The C1OIM hosted in the 9311 Macro ID cabinet is a transparent electrical/optical
gateway between the Node B and RRH sites.
An RRH can be linked to the Node B cabinet thanks to optical fibers, connected to the
C1OIM, and carrying UMTS downlink and uplink (main and diversity) Base Band digital
signals as well as OAM information. One C1OIM drives one optical fiber.
The digital shelf of the 9311 Macro IDcabinet houses up to three C1OIM boards
depending on the digital backplane.
The C1OIM board only works with an Indoor 2 (current 9311 Macro ID, former
UMTS BTS 12010-600-2)) and with a DBP602 digital backplane (optional).
Main functions

The C1OIM provides the following functions:

Duplex electrical/optical conversion of High Speed Serial Link (HSSL) at 1024 fc

to/from fiber optic link
Switch of HSSL channel on the active iCCM-2
Inventory via Dallas one-wire Bus

Reporting of optoelectronic transceiver Tx/Rx fault

Laser emission switch on/off via Dallas one-wire Bus
Detection of optoelectronic transceiver presence
Optical wavelengths (Tx 1, Rx 2) or (Rx 1, Tx 2) configuration via optical heads
in Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) cages.

HSSL loop-back control via Dallas one-wire bus: This loopback is performed on the
electrical signal, when this loopback is activated the optical transmission is disabled
to prevent disturbing the RRH.

The C1OIM variant provides one single bidirectional optical fiber interface or SFP to
carry duplex digital and optical communications with the RRH: transmit wavelength is
1, receive wavelength is 2.
The C1OIM handles the optical transmission of one HSSL link in one single bidirectional
optical fiber interface toward RRH.
This function is based on the use of one single fiber bidirectional optoelectronic
transceiver to carry duplex digital and optical communications with the first RRH in the
daisy chain.
In downlink, the C1OIM receives two HSSL links from the active and passive iCCM-2
via the fiber. The C1OIM sends its data stream to the optical transceiver, which converts
the signal into an optical one.
In uplink, the C1OIM optical transceiver converts the optical signal into electrical HSSL
link. The C1OIM sends the received bit streams to both iCCM-2 boards.

The C1OIM has no microprocessor and no software processing capability. The C1OIM
devices (optical heads, LEDs) are driven by the iCCM-2 through GPxOIM board on a
Dallas one-wire bus.
Hardware description

The 9311 Macro IDdigital shelf can host two C1OIM variants:

C1OIM equipped with Single-Mode (SM) SFP transceivers

This variant is dedicated to long distance connections (up to 10 km).
The optical receiver part of SFP transceiver is connected to one fiber carrying both
downlink and uplink signals using Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing
(CWDM): Single-Mode optical propagation is used.
C1OIM equipped with Multi-Mode (MM) SFP transceivers
This variant is dedicated to short distance connections (up to 500 m).
The optical receiver part of SFP transceiver is connected to two fibers (Multi-Mode
optical propagation is used). In this case, one fiber carries the downlink signal, the
other one the uplink signal (main and diversity digital streams are multiplexed into a
single HSSL stream).

The C1OIM is hosted in a dedicated 50-mm slot of the digital shelf.

Compact Optical Interface Module with connectivity for two

optical fibers (C2OIM)

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Compact Optical Interface Module with connectivity for two

optical fibers (C2OIM)
The C2OIM hosted in the 9311 Macro ID cabinet is a transparent electrical/optical
gateway between the Node B and RRH sites.
Up to two RRHs can be linked to the Node B cabinet thanks to optical fibers, connected
to the C2OIM, and carrying UMTS downlink and uplink (main and diversity) base band
digital signals as well as OAM information. One C2OIM drives up to two optical fibers.
The digital shelf of the 9311 Macro ID cabinet houses one C2OIM.
The C2OIM board only works with an Indoor 2 (current 9311 Macro ID, former
UMTS BTS 12010-600-2)) and with a DBP602 digital backplane (optional).
Main functions

The C2OIM provides the following functions:

Duplex electrical/optical conversion of High Speed Serial Link (HSSL) to/from fiber
optic link
Inventory via Dallas one-wire bus
Presence detection for iCCM-2
Reporting alarms to the GPxOIM via Dallas one-wire bus: optic transceiver Tx Fault
and Rx Los, detection of optic transceiver presence
Laser emission on/off via Dallas one-wire bus
Detection of optoelectronic transceiver presence via Dallas one-wire bus
Optical frequencies (Tx 1, Rx 2) or (Rx 1, Tx 2) configuration via optical heads
in Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) cages.
DC fault detection via Dallas one-wire bus
HSSL loop-back control via Dallas one-wire bus

The C2OIM uses two - single or dual fiber - bidirectional optoelectronic SFP transceivers
to carry duplex digital and optical communications with an RRH:

Transmit wavelength is 1

Receive wavelength is 2

The C2OIM handles the optical transmission of two HSSL links in two bidirectional
optical fiber interfaces towards the RRHs.
In downlink, for each fiber, the C2OIM receives one HSSL link from each iCCM-2. The
C2OIM sends its data stream to the optical transceiver, which converts the signal into an
optical one.
In uplink, for each fiber, the C2OIM optical transceiver converts the optical signal into
electrical HSSL link. The C2OIM sends the received bit stream to both iCCM-2 boards.
The C2OIM has no microprocessor and no software processing capability. The C2OIM
board is remotely controlled by the iCCM-2 through GPxOIM board on a Dallas one-wire
bus.

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Hardware description

The 9311 Macro ID digital shelf can host two C2OIM variants:

C2OIM equipped with Single-Mode (SM) SFP transceivers

This variant is dedicated to long distance connections (up to 10 km).
The optical receiver part of SFP transceiver is connected to one fiber carrying both
downlink and uplink signals using Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing
(CWDM): Single-Mode optical propagation is used.
C2OIM equipped with Multi-Mode (MM) SFP transceivers
This variant is dedicated to short distance connections (up to 500 m).
The optical receiver, part of SFP transceiver, is connected to two fibers (Multi-Mode
optical propagation is used). In this case, one fiber carries the downlink signal, the
other one the uplink signal (main and diversity digital streams are multiplexed into a
single HSSL stream).

The C2OIM is hosted in a dedicated slot of the digital shelf equipped with a DBP602
digital backplane (slot 10). This slot is shared with the GPxOIM board.
The following figure shows the C2OIM Single-Mode front panel.

GPxOIM board

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

GPxOIM board
The GPxOIM board is embedded in the GPxOIM mechanics. It is located on the right
side of the 9311 Macro ID digital shelf.
The GPxOIM board has the same functions as the GPSAM and compact GPSAM
(cGPSAM) housed in other cabinets of the Node B portfolio. The GPxOIM board is
similar to the cGPSAM: the same Printed-Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) is used. The
main differences between GPxOIM board and cGPSAM are the front panel height and
some slight changes on serigraphy.
The GPxOIM board only works with an Indoor 2 (current 9311 Macro ID, former
UMTS BTS 12010-600-2)) and with a DBP602 digital backplane (optional).
Main functions

The GPxOIM board has two different functions:

Collection of information about the state of the 9311 Macro ID: alarms, inventory and
presence of FRUs, commissioning
Supply of timing information

Depending on the FRU, the GPxOIM board collects:

Only alarms

Only inventory information

Both alarms and inventory information

The inventory and alarm collection process of the 9311 Macro ID is based on the Dallas
one-wire bus.
Alarms, remote inventory information and commissioning information are collected
through this Dallas one-wire bus and stored by the GPxOIM board. The Dallas one-wire
bus is connected to the internal modules of the 9311 Macro ID.
In this inventory and alarm collection process:

The GPxOIM board is the hardware master on the bus, under control of the iCCM-2
software.
The GPxOIM board physically drives several buses to all modules within the 9311
Macro ID cabinet that provide inventory memory and alarms.
The C2OIM one-wire interface is used to control output I/O pins and allows the
iCCM-2 to manage the C2OIM remotely.

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Multi Carrier Power Amplifier (MCPA)

The MCPAs are located in the MCPA shelf which houses up to six MCPAs. The location
of the MCPA shelf depends on the Node B cabinet type. The MCPA is used to amplify the
Tx signal.
Alcatel-Lucent provides the following MCPA module groups:

The MCPA 850/MCPA 60W 850 operates within the 869-894 MHz bandwidth, in
UMTS 850.

The MCPA 1900 (also called PCS 1900 MHz MCPA) operates within the 1930-1990
MHz bandwidth, in UMTS 1900.
The MCPA/MCPA-2/MCPA-3/MCPA 60W 2100 module operates within the
2110-2170 MHz bandwidth, in UMTS 2100.

Module types

The MCPA module types are the following:

MCPA
MCPA-2
MCPA-3
MCPA 60W

All MCPAs have the same front panel, functionalities and hardware maintenance. The
main differences concern:

the power consumption and the related efficiency

the optimization of the rectifier number

the PEC:
NTUM30AA for first generation MCPA module
NTUM30CA for MCPA-2 module

NTUM90EA for RoHS compliant MCPA-3 module

NTUM30WA for RoHS compliant MCPA 60W-B module (or MCPA 60W-BBPD
module)

NTUM30FM for the RoHS compliant MCPA 60W-A module (or MCPA
60W-Autonomous module)
NTUM30EA for the MCPA 850 MHz
For more information, refer to Alcatel-Lucent 9311 Macro Node B Indoor - Corrective
Maintenance, (NN-20500-009).
It is possible to mix MCPA, MCPA-2, and MCPA-3 types into the RF block.
But to gain benefits from the performances of the new generation of MCPA module
(MCPA-3), Alcatel-Lucent recommends not to mix together the three MCPA types.
Functional modes

The three MCPA types include the following functional modes:

In this mode, the MCPAs operate in 45 W.

Second mode
In this reduced mode, the MCPAs operate in 30 W.

The functional mode is selected using specific commands.

The switching between the two modes when MCPA is in operational mode is possible
without passing by shutdown mode.
MCPA-3 main characteristics

The main characteristics of MCPA-3 module are the following:

Improved efficiency due to reduced power consumption

Support of three carriers instantaneous bandwidth

Operating mode

The MCPA supports the following operating modes:

Unknown mode
This mode is used to initialize the micro-controller of the MCPA. The MCPA is in
unknow mode just after the micro-controller reset.
Manual mode
This mode is activated without need of software commands. The manual mode is
effective if the MCPA is in unknown mode.
UMTS mode
This mode is the main operating mode for the MCPA. In this mode, the MCPA
responds to messages sent from the Node B interface (TRM) and reports informations
on Node B demand (TRM).
The MCPA 850 operates only with the xTRM 850.
Software download mode
This mode is effective in unknow mode and is initiated with a command message.
The MCPA download mode feature enables to deliver bug fixes on the field without
going on site.
In UMTS03, the MCPA software download allows to manage one MCPA software
release per MCPA manufacturer.
In UMTS04, the MCPA software download allows to manage all MCPA software
releases from all MCPA manufacturers.

Main functions

The MCPA module provides downlink signal amplification. The aim of the MCPA is to
amplify the RF signal delivered by the TRM.
According to the Node B configuration, the MCPA is connected to the antenna through:

A duplexer for sectorial configurations

A Tx splitter for omni-directional configurations

The third generation MCPA modules (MCPA-3) handle from one to three UMTS carriers
(15 MHz operation).

MCPA 60W

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

MCPA 60W
The MCPA 60W module has the following characteristics:

It uses the latest generation of hardware components.

It is located in the MCPA shelf, which can house up to six MCPA 60W modules.
It is used to amplify the Tx signal.
It operates within the following bandwidths:

UMTS 2100 (2110-2170 MHz)

UMTS 1700/2100 (2110-2155 MHz)
UMTS 850 (869-894 MHz)
It is designed to be used only with xTRM (not compatible with TRM or iTRM).

There are three versions of the MCPA 60W module:

MCPA 60W-A (for MCPA 60W-Autonomous)

MCPA 60W-B (for MCPA 60W-BBPD)

There are very few differences between the MCPA 60W-A and the MCPA 60W-B
modules. (See "Only with MCPA 60W-B" in following sections.)
Main functions

The MCPA 60W provides amplification of the RF signals delivered by the xTRM, but
only the MCPA 60W-B delivers feedback signals to the xTRM.
The MCPA 60W allows xTRM redundancy by providing two RF input ports and
switching capability.
The MCPA 60W delivers up to 60 watt nominal composite RF power in order to deliver
45 watt typical RF power to the Node B antenna port.
Only with MCPA 60W-B : compared to the MCPA 30/45W or MCPA 60W-A, the
MCPA 60W-B uses a new architecture based upon the Base Band Pre-Distortion (BBPD)
linearization processing located in the xTRM. This digital pre-distortion technology saves
hardware and improves reliability.
The MCPA 60W handles up to three UMTS carriers (15 MHz maximum instantaneous
bandwidth).
From a functional architecture point of view, the MCPA 60W consists of the following
parts:

One PA pallet
The PA pallet amplifies the selected RF signal coming from the xTRM output to the
required output level, and delivers feedback signals to the xTRM with the BBPD
algorithm ( only with MCPA 60W-B).
One PA control board
The PA control board manages the PA pallet (including the power detection) and the
power supply unit.

9311 Macro ID DC distribution system9311 Macro ID

This section gives a general description of 9311 Macro ID DC power distribution system.
The 9311 Macro ID cabinet supplies a fixed -48 V DC electrical distribution system, to
power the installed electronic equipment.
This distribution system designed with three separate output connections; each output
connection is separately protected by an electrical safety cut-of device which protects
against over currents, and also disconnects and isolates the connected load from the DC
supply.
The electrical distribution system is designed to protect against conducted
electromagnetic emission.
The most efficient method of protection is through the use of cabinet feed-through filters.
A suitably placed grounding point is available to receive site grounding cables. This point
is fully accessible during and after installation.
The following figure gives the DC electrical distribution system.

Remote Electrical Tilt Automatic (RETA)

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Remote Electrical Tilt Automatic (RETA)

Alcatel-Lucent RETA solution is based on Kathrein's product and specific Alcatel-Lucent
devices for adaptation to the Node B.
RETA feature

The RETA feature allows users to adjust remotely the tilt of any antenna sector from the
OMC-B (over IP) through the Node B.
In case of deployment, the RETA allows:

Improving coverage and capacity

Reducing interference
A best visual impact by keeping the antenna vertical

RETA system

The RETA system consists of the following devices:

From Kathrein:
A controller, named Central Control Unit ( CCU) that can be inserted in the user
space according to the Node B type.
Motors, named Remote Control Unit ( RCU), plugged on each antenna. One RCU
is required per Xpolar antenna (MAIN and DIVERSITY), which means that three
RCUs are required for a 3-sector UMTS site.
A 3-way splitter to distribute signal and power to three RCUs.
Control cables to connect splitter to CCU and RCU, and between CCU and
bulkhead.

A lightning protection device to protect the CCU. These devices must be installed
inside the Node B.
Earthing clamps (to ensure the grounding of control cables)
From Alcatel-Lucent (mandatory to ensure proper water-proofing):
A modified bulkhead (one hole is added for specific RETA connector)

A RET battery filler

Ethernet, grounding, power, and alarm cables for the CCU

The CCU module is contained in a user space proposed as a rack-mountable module for
the 9311 Macro ID.

RETA through feeders

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

RETA through feeders

This RETA solution is AISG compliant. Antenna Interface Standards Group (AISG) is a
standard applied to the interface between the CCU and the RCUs.
The AISG signals of RETA run through the RF feeders and no more through an additional
long run AISG cable thanks to current injectors and layer one converters.
The purpose of this interface is to ensure basic inter-operability of antenna and control
infrastructure.
This RETA kit uses the same usual kit, two additional external elements are added to this
kit:

Bias Tee AISG (PEC: NTUM83GA)

This device comprises an AISG modulator. It receives RS485 signals and DC voltage
from the CCU and put on the RF feeder, the modulated OOK 2.176 MHz AISG signal
and DC voltage.
DC-Stop (NTUM83FA)
This element isolates the diversity RF feeder from DC voltage coming from the
DDM.

Figure 6-67 RETA through feeders presentation

One bias tee is required per sector, on the main path. DC-Stop is added on diversity paths.
Power and control signals of RETA system run through the feeders via a bias tee.
Up to three outputs of the CCU are used. AISG Bias Tees and DC-Stop protect these
cables. The DC-Stop and Bias Tee AISG are directly connected on top of the cabinet.

Dual Duplexer Sharing Module (DDSM)

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Dual Duplexer Sharing Module (DDSM)

The DDSM is part of an antenna sharing solution which consists in reusing a GSM
antenna system (antennas + feeders + TMA) when combining a UMTS 900 Node B with
a GSM 900 BTS (9100 MBI or 9100 MBO).
The DDSM (PEC: NTUM40MA) operates within the 900 bandwidth (DDSM 900):

925-960 MHz in downlink

880-915 MHz in uplink

Main functions

The DDSM is made of one Transmit (Tx) filter and two Receive (Rx) filters.
The DDSM is inserted on the antenna diversity path.
Note: It can only be used when the antenna diversity path is not used for GSM Tx
path.
On the Tx path, the downlink signal is distributed through the DDSM, from the Node B
IN port to the Antenna OUT port.
On the Rx path, the uplink signal is distributed in two ways:

Through the DDSM (from the Antenna OUT port to the Rx OUT port) and then
through the GSM Rx Div path
Note: There is a DC path between the Antenna OUT port and the Rx OUT port to
support a GSM TMA.
Through the GSM Rx Main path, and then through the DDSM (from the Rx IN port to
the Node B IN port)

Adding or removing an iCEM/xCEM

An iCEM/xCEM is added to the pool of usable CEMs in the following cases:

The iCEM/xCEM is mapped to a spare CCP (configured by OAM)

The operational state of the iCEM/xCEM is enabled, which means that:

The iCEM/xCEM is running with the correct software
The OAM link between the iCEM/xCEM and the CCM is established

The iCEM/xCEM is not in failure

The administrative state of the iCEM/xCEM is unlocked
Note: if the iCEM/xCEM is in enabled operation state, but no CCP is available,
iCEM/xCEM is considered as spare and cannot be used for call processing.

An iCEM/xCEM is removed from the pool of usable CEMs in the following cases:

The operational state of the iCEM/xCEM becomes disabled. This happens when:
The iCEM/xCEM is totally or partially in failure. The Node B does not manage
degraded CEMs
The iCEM/xCEM is physically removed from the Node B
The administrative state of the iCEM/xCEM becomes locked
Adding an iCEM/xCEM to the pool of CEMs is done at startup.

The CEM pool is managed as a single source of processing power through the load
balancing feature.
The CEM pool management offers to the iCEM and xCEM a coexistence inside the Node
B digital shelf, while ensuring the heterogeneous management of various module types as
a common resource for Node B call-processing.
Increasing the number of PCMs (multi PCM)

It is possible to use more than one PCM link to increase the backhaul capacity.
The Node B supports two Multi PCM features for the external connection:

Multi PCM without IMA

Multi PCM with IMA (or IMA over PCM)

The impact of both PCM features on the network are different.

Multi PCM without IMA

The connection between the Node B and the RNC provides the following functions:

Up to 4 PCMs per Node B, each with its own UNI interface, between the Node B and
the Access Equipment (both RNC PCM and RNC SDH configurations are supported)

A single full or fractional PCM per Node B (possibly with Drop and Insert), or
multiple full PCMs (without Drop and Insert)

IMA over PCM

The purpose of IMA is to multiplex ATM cell streams over PCM links and to retrieve the
original stream at far end from these links. IMA is supported on all Node B types.
IMA is used to increase the cell stream throughput between the Node B and the RNC. It
provides a physical layer for Iub and for Node B specific O&M signaling. It also provides
transparent transport of the ATM layer and higher
The IMA provides:

A physical layer for Iub

A physical layer for Node B specific O&M signaling
Transparency of the ATM layer and higher layers

The Node B IMA feature provides also up to eight ports per IMA group. That is one to
eight physical ports per logical UNI.
The IMA combines the cell from physical ports for transport with preservation of cell
order and cell format.
The following figure shows an example of how an IMA link group can be used on the
transmission interface between the Node B and the RNC via the Access Equipment.

The Access Equipment provides a hub function (switching, routing) for the Node B. It is
located in small concentration hub sites like the Node B sites. It allows aggregating traffic
from several Node Bs. The Access Equipment offers more connectivity to the Node B
site.
The Access Equipment supports the following features:

Multi PCM
IMA on PCM E1/T1
Fractional E1/T1 to achieve Drop&Insert UMTS-UMTS and GSM-UMTS
Note: In case of Multi PCM without IMA feature, none of the Multi PCM can be
fractional. The fractional E1/T1 and Multi PCM without IMA features are not
compatible.

The drop and insert function implies the support of ATM over fractional E1 in the Node
B. The drop and insert function consists in the routing of data for other Node Bs through
the Node B. This is done through the routing of some PCM time slot from an incoming
PCM to an outgoing one.
Increasing the number of RF carriers

Adding a carrier to an OTSR1 configuration does not require to disconnect any existing
RF cable.
Upgrading from STSR1 to STSR2 does not require to disconnect any existing RF cable:
the additional iTRM needed for STSR2 is used in reception and for Tx redundancy.
Upgrading from STSR2 to STSR3 can follow the same approach and can be done without
any disconnection (the third iTRM is used in reception only). However, in order to
increase the STSR3 configuration reliability, it is recommended to use each iTRM for
transmission in one sector: two RF cables have to be disconnected from the two existing
iTRMs and connected to the third one.
Upgrading an OTSR configuration to an STSR configuration

This upgrade requires RF disconnection since the Tx Splitter has to be replaced by two
MCPAs.
