MRC to Facilitate Letter Writing Campaign to Prospective students

The MRC in conjunction with the Undergraduate Admissions Office is looking for current students of color interested in writing letters to newly admitted prospective students to encourage their enrollment at Binghamton. Populations currently identified as underrepresented groups include African Americans and Hispanic American students. If students are interested or have not already signed up to write letters, please stop into any of our current sessions listed below. One student can write as many as 10 postcards in an hour! MRC to Facilitate Campus Climate Survey for student groups

The MRC in conjunction with the Office of Diversity Equity & Inclusion will facilitate opportunities for student groups to take the Campus Climate Survey. All student groups are eligible to win $200 ( 1st prize) or $100 (2nd prize) towards an event for the student group with the most representation in the survey. There are also individual level incentives for students which include a chance to win an ipad, BU Buck$, a gift certificate to the University Bookstore and more! The MRC has reserved Computer Pod Room 135 in Science 2 for the week of April 1-4. All student groups are eligible and encouraged to complete the survey. The Campus Climate Survey is the first of its kind, in that it will provide important information about services to students, faculty and staff needed on campus as it relates to diversity. MRC Director Nicole Sirju-Johnson with our Black History Month Speaker, journalist, Stephen A. Smith on February 22nd. Smith packed the Lecture Hall , as more than 450 people including students, faculty staff and community members attended Smiths lecture. Smith discussed overcoming major obstacles in his own life, the highs and lows of his career with ESPN, choices young athletes make and the impact African Americans have on major sports today.

Do You Want to be on a TV Talk Show!? Join the MRCs Bi-Weekly Diversity

The Multicultural Resource Center is looking for students to participate in a new show produced by Binghamton Television Multicultural Resource Center Presents BTV6. This is a new and improved version of the MRC biweekly Diversity Talks from last semester. BTV6 is the People of the Q student-run television station that reaches over 15,000 with Guest Speaker Meejin Richart from Q-WAVE (Queer Women students across the Binghamton campus. We plan to include 6 Asian Visible Empowered) panelists for each show who will discuss one topic related to Wednesday, April 2 nd in UU 108 diversity together. There will be 7 shows this semester.
