about ireland
IReLaNd
Ireland is a beautiful island with a population of just 4.5 million people and it offers a unique and unforgettable language learning experience for students of all ages. The Irish people are very friendly and full of conversation; visitors are warmly welcomed and find it very easy to relax and talk to Irish people. Irelands deeply rooted historical and cultural tradition means you always have something fun and exciting to do during your stay. From Dublin in the east to the rugged Atlantic coastline in the west, Ireland has something to offer everybody. Irish theatre is among the best in the world, and many of the biggest names in Hollywood, from Orson Welles to Pierce Brosnan and Colin Farrell, began their acting careers on the Irish stage. Traditional music and dance are widely enjoyed, with Ireland having produced such international names as U2 and the phenomenally successful show, Riverdance. Come to Ireland and walk in the footsteps of many literary giants including Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, WB Yeats and Seamus Heaney, all of whom have influenced Irelands language and culture.

DubLiN
Irelands capital city, Dublin, is located on the east coast of Ireland and is a vibrant, safe and inspirational city, world renowned for its warmth and hospitality. Dublin has a population of approximately 1.5 million people and is an animated and welcoming city. Dublin has produced, or been home to, some of the greatest literary names in history. Its most famous literary son is James Joyce and Dublin is the setting for two of his greatest works: Ulysses and Dubliners. Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, W.B. Yeats, Jonathan Swift and Bram Stoker are just some of the famous writers who were born or lived in Dublin. This modern city also has many theatres, cinemas and concert venues to entertain visitors. Shops and museums, art galleries and exhibitions are plentiful in this young and exciting capital city. With its indelible charm and natural camaraderie, Dublin is the kind of city where you are immediately made to feel welcome and at home!
BRaY
Bray, now regarded as a suburb of Dublin, is located south of Dublin at the gateway to Wicklow, The Garden of Ireland. Bray offers students the best of both worlds. You can enjoy all the splendour of Wicklow and yet you are only a 35 minute DART (train) journey away from Dublin city centre. Bray offers a wide range of shops and theatre venues, noted restaurants, and pubs with live music and entertainment happening regularly throughout the year. The town of Bray is named after the imposing rock hill which gives the town its character and a walk up the hill offers a unique view over Dublin Bay. Brays natural beauty has made it an attractive holiday destination since the 19th century; early holiday-makers from Britain and Dublin built splendid Victorian houses as summer homes like those typically seen on the seafront. ATC is located in four of these Victorian buildings, including the beautifully restored Dunluice House. Carefully and completely refurbished and upgraded, Dunluice House combines Victorian elegance with modern comforts. The classrooms are bright, spacious and warm, with magnificent views across the Irish Sea. Bray offers something for everyone, from its famous walks (with the popular Bray Promenade and Bray Head located beside the school) to horse riding, golf, sailing and angling.

Bray is a long established seaside town located 20km south of Dublin and easily accessible by public transport. With its beautiful sand and shingle beach and a charming promenade there are a wide range of festivals and activities throughout the year, making it an attractive and peaceful environment to study and live in.
Dublin is one of Europes most popular tourist destinations and is world famous for its hospitality, culture, arts, music and vibrant nightlife. TeacHeR DeVeLopMeNt
This programme offers in-service teacher development for teachers of English who do not have English as a first language. We offer one course for teachers of young learners, one course for secondary school teachers and one for teachers of adults. Teachers may receive EU funding to participate in these courses. Our programme for Teachers of English for Adults is listed on the Comenius/Grundtvig Training Database (http://ec.europa.eu/education/trainingdatabase). Visit www.atcireland.ie for current Grundtvig number. Each week of this two-week programme consists of over 25 hours in the classroom + 5 hours of cultural excursions. Our aim is to offer participants a balance between developing their own English language skills and exploring current teaching methodologies and techniques. Our language trainers will develop English language lessons in response to participants particular language needs, focusing on the development of language awareness and language skills. A minimum B1 level in English is recommended to participate in the course. Our training sessions on teaching methodologies and techniques are delivered through a mixture of seminars and practical workshops, with input from our team of experienced trainers. During these seminars and workshops participants are encouraged to engage in discussion in order to share ideas and experiences and are given the opportunity to collaborate on tasks in order to create their own resources and put theory into practice. Upon request we can create a training course tailored to a groups specific needs. Participants can choose from an extensive list of training modules to create their own programme. The following list outlines some of the training modules currently on offer:
