"1 am sending you to them to opjen their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God ..." Acts26:28

Dearest Partners in the Gospel,

We hope your lives are an exciting adventure with the Lord, but perhaps not as exciting as oursfor your heart's sake. Sometimes we feel like we're in the middle of a Mongolian horse race!

Never a dull moment...

Jenna almost made the "milk carton" last week. On

Wednesday I had her with me at the office while Kathy spent the afternoon counseling a young wife in our church who's traveling a rocky road in her mar riage. I guess I got a little lax and Jenna got a little adventurous. We had a lot of different groups and studies at church that day and I didn't realize that the front door had been left open. Jenna decided to test her climbing ability and, all by her lonesome, ascended the stairs leading up and outside to the front of our building, which is part of a huge apart ment complex.

I couldn't find her anywhere! At first I thought she was just hiding from me in the church building. After turning the place upside-down, I began searching "Am 1 cute or what?" Jenna outside, asking neighbors, nearby shopkeepers, even the monks at the nearby temple! She was missing for over an hour while a significant number of neighbors, her mother (who was not extremely amused with me),

her vigilant brother Nick, and some church folks were scouringthe community for her.

Turns out, she had gone into the courtyard of our building complex, completely unnoticed by the guards, whom she passed directly in front of, wandered into the elevator, randomly got offon 5th floor, and pro ceeded to play happily with rocks in a potted plant outside someone's home. A lady who lived on 5th floor came home from work to discover a 3 1/2 year old little girl playing in the hallway outside her house! After concluding that this was the cutest little girl she had ever seen in her life, that she wasn't visiting the neigh bors, and thatsomeone was probably frantically searching for her, she took her downstairs where the guards recognized her as the missing milk carton candidate/pastor's daughter. I've never come so close to genuine panic as that day. Thank God for keeping her safe while we looked in all the wrong places. We do love this
little one!

The People Business...

Things are going well with the church. We're so proud of our people! KJ is noticing tremendous growth in her ladies and observes how they are involved in ministry and discipling others with little oversight from her
now. This is what we're striving for with the whole church.

We're focusing heavily on every member becoming a disciple-maker this year. And we're still learning a lot about what real discipleship is...we know that until our converts become spiritual parents themselves, our
job is not done. Our church is not a comfortable place to be if all you want to do is warm a seat on Sun day, but it's an exciting place to be! We have people growing and leading others now who, if judged from a worldly perspective, would never have been given the chance. "So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view..." We believe everyone can quit living for themselves, start living for Christ and become a new creation! (II Cor. 5:15-17)

From March through May this year, we averaged 113.76 people in our Sunday AM assembly. (I think the .76 is a real short guy whose been coming lately.) I don't believe that numbers tell the whole story, but these particular numbers are people we love and have been working and praying for, so they're very encouraging to us! But whose counting... Actually, our weekly cell groups are really where the action is. That's where people are learning to love each other, pray for each other, confess sin, absorb the Word, memorize it, teach it to others, and win their friends and families. We've only had 9 baptisms so far this year, but have more on the way to faith as I write. We have our problems too...But we've concluded that if you're in the 'people business', problems and dysHmctions come with the territory. After all, isn't that why Christ came, lived, taught, died and rose? Isn't that the purpose of God's family on earthto redeem and care for each one who was once in the clutches of the enemy? The Church is indeed the best people business in the world. She could indeed be called
"New Creation Unlimited"!

The World of Genghis Kahn...

I made our first trip as Asian Field Coordinators with Team Expansion to China and Mongolia last month. Kathy was not able to travel this time because of Kurt's knee and Jenna's needs. China was not new to me, but Mongolia impressed me as truly "the ends of the earth". 1was most impressed at the sacrifice and dedication of our workers in both places. It is estimated that some 3000 people come to Christ per day in China. Amazing! Some of our workers in China are involved in leadership training in one branch of the Chinese House Church Movement exceeding 10 million people. Incredible! Christ has been building His Church in China for many years now. By contrast, the church in Mongolia is only 12 years old! That means that as of 1993 there was no visible Christian presence. But today the church is thriving and there is an evangelistic fervor among Mongolian Christians. They are poor, but not spiritually! May we too be as rich
in our desire to reach our world for Christ as our Asian brothers and sisters.

On the home front...

On the home frontKurt's knee is mending well. He's 'chomping at the bit' to be liberated from all restrictions and return to his beloved basketball court. He put up his crutches on June 1 and immediately began "walking, but not leaping, and praising God." He has his doctor's permission to do ev erything but run and jump until July 13, when he returns for a final X-Ray. He can't compete yet, but he can still shoot the eyes out of that hoop. He beat me in "horse" last week. Micah returned "home" the day after school was out at Ozark Christian College. We enjoyed having him around for a

while. He was so happy to be in Taiwan again to see us, his friends, and eat all the good stuff most Ameri cans wouldn't dare touch. Micah's grown in the Lord this past year. We'reso encouraged to see his matu
rity and hear of his Kingdom plans. He's back in Tulsa now working at the sod farm where his dad used to buy all his grass for summer 'lawnscaping'. Nick is growing like a weed and continues to be a great big brother to Jenna. He was the first one on the scene to join in the search when he heard his little sister was missing. (It would not have been good for an abductor to have been found by this big brother, had that been Jenna's fate!)

Jenna's safe and sound now, sweet as she can be, and yet still a challenge to her new parents. We're slowly but surely wearing offthe stubborn edges of her bright personality. Kathy's a great mother to her, and seems to understand just what this little one needs. I'm mostly just wondering how any of all this that I've just told you ever even happens! The fact that God is good and determined to carry out His plans in us,
thru us, and in spite of us, is all 1can come up with.
May His rich blessings fall upon you too!
