1ase The !ase to receive the finish is covered under other relevant specifications.

Se.uence Commencement, scheduling and se.uence of the finishing wor shall !e planned in detail and must !e specifically approved !y the Employer3s &epresentative in view the activities of other agencies wor ing in that area. +owever, the Contractor for the finishing items shall remain fully responsi!le for all normal precautions and vigilance to prevent any damage whatsoever till handling over.

shall !e as per relevant $S Codes where availa!le. $n all cases these materials shall !e of the !est .uality availa!le indigenously, unless specified otherwise. The materials for finishing items must !e procured from well6 reputed speciali(ed manufacturers and on the !asis of approval of samples !y the Employer3s &epresentative. The materials shall !e ordered, procured and stored well in advance to avoid compulsion to use su!standard items to maintain in the construction schedule. 2.0.2 7or manship Only wor ers specially e'perienced in particular items of finishing wor shall !e engaged, where such wor ers are not readily availa!le, with the Engineer8s permission, e'perienced supervisors recommended !y the manufacturer shall !e engaged. 2.0.9 Preparation of the 1ase Surface The surface to !e treated shall !e thoroughly e'amined !y the Contractor. -ny rectification necessary shall !e !rought to the notice of the Employer3s &epresentative and his approval shall !e ta en regarding method and e'tent of such rectification wor . %or all types of flooring, s irting, dado and similar locations, the !ase to receive the finish shall !e ade.uately roughened !y chipping, ra ing out :oints and cleaning thoroughly all dirt, grease etc. with water and hard !rush and detergent if re.uired, unless otherwise directed !y the manufacturer of any special finishing materials or specially indicated in this specification under individual item. To prevent of water from the finishing treatment the !ase shall !e thoroughly soa ed with water and all e'cess water mopped up. The surface shall !e done dry where adhesive are used for fi'ing the finishes. Prior to commencement of actual finishing wor the approval of the Employer3s &epresentative shall !e ta en as per the accepta!ility of the surface. 2.1.0 2.1.1 $n Situ %inishes $ntegral %inish To Concrete 1ase 7hile the surface of the concrete laid as per specification for ;Cement Concrete8 has !een fully compacted and leveled !ut the concrete is still ;green8 a thic slurry made with neat cement shall !e applied evenly and wor ed in with iron floats. 7hen the slurry starts to set it shall !e pressed with iron floats to have a firm compact smooth surface without trowel mar or undulations. This finish shall !e as thin as possi!le !y using 2.2 <g of cement per S.. *. of area.

The surface shall !e ept in shade for 2= hours and then cured for at least > days continuously !y flooding with water. The surface shall not !e su!:ected to any load or a!rasion till 21 days after laying. -s desired !y the Employer3s &epresentative the surface, while still ;green8 shall !e indented !y pressing strings, the mar ing shall !e if even depth, in straight lines and the panels shall !e of uniform and symmetrical patterns. 2.1.2 &ed O'ide of iron %inish $t shall consist of an under!ed and a topping over already laid and matured concrete !ase. a# Thic ness ?nless otherwise specified the total thic ness of the finish shall !e minimum =0 mm for hori(ontal and 2@ mm for vertical surface of which the topping shall !e not less than 10 mm while the topping shall !e of uniform thic ness the under!ed may vary in thic ness to provide necessary slopes. The vertical surface shall pro:ect out A mm from the ad:acent plaster or other finishes. 4ecessary cutting into the surface receiving the finish shall !e done to accommodate the specified thic ness. -ll :unctions of vertical with hori(ontal shall !e rounded neatly to uniform radius of 2@ mm. !# *i' i# The under!ed for floors and similar hori(ontal surfaces shall consist of a mi' of 1 part cement, 2 parts coarse sand and = parts 10 mm down graded stone, chips !y volume. %or vertical and similar surfaces the mi' shall consist of 1 part cement to 9 parts coarse sand !y volume. Topping %or the topping cement, screened through a fine mesh red o'ide of iron pigment powder similarly screened shall !e dry mi'ed thoroughly in right proportions to produce the desired colour when laid. The mi' shall then !e prepared with 1 part cement /mi'ed with pigment# and 9 parts coarse sand volume. The whole .uantity re.uired for each visi!le area shall !e prepared in one !atch to ensure uniform colour.

5aying The under!ed shall !e laid in panels of mi'ing area @ S..*. each and no side shall !e more than 2.@ * long. %or outdoor locations the ma'imum area shall !e 2.0 S..*. The forms for the panels shall have perfectly aligned edges to the full depth of the total thic ness of finish. $f specified aluminium or glass dividing strips shall !e used. The panels shall !e laid in alternate !ays or in che.uered !oard pattern. 4o panel shall !e cast in contact with another already laid until the contraction of the latter has ta en place. The under!ed shall !e laid, compacted, leveled and !rought to proper grade with a screed or float. The topping shall !e placed after a!out 2= hours while the under!eded is still somewhat ;green8 !ut firm enough to receive the topping. The surface of the under!ed shall !e roughened for !etter !onding. The topping shall !e rolled for hori(ontal areas and thrown and pressed for vertical areas to e'tract all superfluous cement and water to achieve a compact dense mass fully !onded with the under!ed. The topping shall then !e leveled up !y trowelling and finished smooth with a slurry made with already prepared cement and pigment mi'ture. -!out 2.0 <g. of the mi'ture shall !e consumedBper S..*. for hori(ontal surface, and 1.0 <g. for vertical surface. The surface shall !e cured for seven days !y eeping it moist.

Polishing -!out 9A hours after laying when the surface has harden sufficiently it shall !e polished with polishing stone till a smooth shiny surface to the satisfaction of the Employer3s &epresentative, is achieved. The finish shall !e washed and cleaned :ust !efore handing over.

Terra((o %inish " $n Situ $t shall consist of an under!ed and a topping laid over an already laid and matured concrete !ase. a# Thic ness ?nless otherwise specified the total thic ness of the finish shall !e minimum =0 mm for hori(ontal and 2@ mm for vertical surface of which the topping shall !e not less than 10mm. 7hile the topping shall !e of uniform thic ness the under!ed may very in thic ness to provide necessary slopes. *i' i# ?nder!ed The under!ed for floors and similar hori(ontal surfaces shall consist of a mi' of 1 part cement, 1.1B2 parts sand and 9 parts stone chips !y volume. %or vertical surfaces the mi' shall consist of 1 part cement to 9 parts sand !y volume. The sand shall !e coarse. The stone chips shall !e 10 mm down graded. Only sufficient water to !e added to give a wor a!le consistency. ii# Topping The mi' for the topping shall !e composed of cement, colour pigment, mar!le dust and mar!le chips. Proportions of the ingredients shall !e such as to produce the terra((o of colour te'ture and pattern approved !y the Employer3s &epresentative. The cement shall !e white or gray or a mi'ture of the two to which pigment shall !e added to achieve the desired colour. To 9 parts of this mi'ture 1 part mar!le powder !y volume shall !e added and thoroughly mi'ed dry. To 1 part of this mi' 1 to 1.1B2 parts of mar!le chips !y volume shall !e added and thoroughly mi'ed dry again. The pigment must !e sta!le and non6fading. $t must !e very finely ground. The mar!le powder shall !e from white mar!le and shall !e finer than $S Sieve 4o. " 90. The si(e of mar!le chips may !e !etween 1 mm to 20 mm. Sufficient .uantity to cover each visi!le area shall !e prepared in one lot to ensure uniform colour. 7ater to ma e it :ust wor a!le shall !e added to a .uantity that can !e used up immediately !efore it starts to set.

5aying The under!ed shall !e laid in panels. The panels shall !e more than @ s..m in area of which no side shall !e more than 2.@* long. %or e'posed locations the ma'imum area of a panel shall !e 2.0 S..*. The panel shall !e laid in alternate !ays or che.uered !oard pattern. 4o panel shall !e cast in contact with another already laid until the latter has contracted to the full e'tent. Cividing strips made of aluminium or glass shall !e used for forming the panels. The strips shall e'actly match the total depth of under!ed plus topping.

-fter laying, the under!ed shall !e leveled compacted and !rought to proper grade with a screed or float. The topping shall !e laid after a!out 2= hours while the under!ed is still somewhat ,green, !ut firm enough to receive the topping. - slurry of the mi'ture of cement and pigment already made shall !e spread evenly and !rushed in :ust !efore laying the topping. The topping shall !e rolled for hori(ontal areas and thrown and pressed for vertical areas to e'tract all superfluous cement and water and to achieve a compact dense mass fully !onded with the under!ed. The surface of the topping shall, !e trowelled over, pressed and !rought to a smooth dense surface showing a minimum >@D area covered !y mar!le chips in a even pattern of distri!ution. d# Curing The surface shall !e left for curing for a!out 12 to 1E hours and then cured !y allowing water to stand on the surface or !y covering with wet sac for four days. e# )rinding and Polishing 7hen the surface has sufficiently hardened it shall !e watered and ground evenly with rapid cutting coarse grade /no.A0# grit !loc s, till the mar!le chips are e'posed and the surface is smooth. Then the surface shall !e thoroughly washed and cleaned. - grout with already prepared mi'ture of cement and pigment shall !e applied to fill up all pinholes. The surface shall !e cured for > days !y eeping it moist and then ground with fine grit !loc s /no."120#. $t shall again !e cleaned with water, the slurry applied again to fill up any pinholes that might have appeared and allowed to !e cured again for @ days. %inally, the surface is ground a third time with very fine grit !loc s/no. "920# to get smooth surface without any pinhole. The grinding shall !e done !y a suita!le machine. 7here grinding machine can not !e used hand grinding may !e allowed when the first ru!!ing shall !e with car!orundum stone of coarse grade /no.A0#, second ru!!ing with medium grade /no. " E0# and final ru!!ing and polishing with fine grade /no. " 120#. The surface shall !e cleaned with water, dried and covered with soil free, clean sawdust if directed !y the Employer3s &epresentative. The final polishing shall !e postponed till !efore handing over if desired !y the Employer3s &epresentative. Fust !efore handing over the surface shall !e dusted with o'alic acid at the rate of 0.99 gm. per S..*, water sprin led on to it and finished !y !uffing with felt or +essian !o!s. The floor shall !e cleaned with soft moist rag and dried. +owever, all e'cess wa' polish to !e wiped off and the surface to !e left glossy !ut not slippery.

)ranolithic %inish )ranolithic finish shall either !e laid monolithically over !ase concrete or separately over hardened !ase concrete. a# Thic ness The finish shall !e average 20mm and minimum 12 mm thic , unless specified otherwise. !# *i' The mi' shall consist of 1 part cement " 1 part coarse sand " 2 parts coarse aggregate !y volume. The coarse aggregate shall !e very hard li e granite and well graded !etween A mm and 12 mm. *inimum .uantity of water to get wor a!ility shall !e added. c# 5aying of *onolithic Topping The concrete !ase shall !e laid as per specification ,Cement Concrete, and leveled upto the re.uired grade. The form shall remain sufficiently protruding to ta e the finish. 7ithin a!out 9 hours of laying the !ase while it is still fully ,green, the topping shall !e laid evenly to proper thic ness and grade. $f considered necessary the surface of the !ase shall roughened !y wire !rushing. ?nless manual operation is permitted !y the Employer3s &epresentative, mechanical vi!rators of suita!le design shall !e used to press the topping firmly and wor vigorously and .uic ly to secure full !ond with concrete !ase. The laitance !rought to the surface during compression shall !e removed carefully without !e distur!ing the stone chips. The surface shall then lightly trawled to remove all mar s. 7hen sufficiently set, hand trawling shall !e done to secure a smooth surface without distur!ing the stonechips. %or large areas the laying shall !e in panels of ma'imum 2@ s..m. area. The panels shall !e laid in che.uered !oard pattern. d# 5aying of Topping Separately on +ardened 1ase The !ase concrete shall !e prepared as stated in clause 2.0.9 and a slurry of neat cement applied :ust prior to laying the granolithic concrete mi' /1"1"2#. The method of compaction etc. shall !e same as for monolithic topping.

Curing $mmediately after laying, the finish shall !e protected against rapid drying. -s soon as the surface had hardened sufficiently, it shall !e ept continuously moist for at least 10 days !y means of wet gunny !ags or pounding of water on the surface. The floor shall not !e e'posed to heavy traffic during this period.

)rinding $f grinding is specified, it shall start only after the finish has fully set. Clause 2.1.9 /c# shall !e followed. +owever, the ultimate polish re.uired shall !e decided upon !y the Employer3s &epresentative.

%inishing 7here specified, sodium silicate or magnesium or (inc silica fluoride treatment shall !e done. The num!er of coats to !e applied shall !e as decided !y Employer3s &epresentative. The concentration and method of application of the solutions shall !e as specified in $S " @=G1.

Patent Stone $t shall consist of an under!ed and a topping laid on an already laid and matured concrete !ase. a# Thic ness The patent stone finish shall have thic ness as stipulated under clause 2.1.2 /a# e'cept that the topping shall !e A mm thic . !# *i' i# ?nder!ed The mi' shall !e as stipulated under clause 2.1.9/!#. ii# Topping The mi' for the topping shall consist of 1 part cement and 1 part fine sand !y volume. c# 5aying The Patent Stone, including the under!ed shall !e laid in alternate !ays or in che.uered !oard pattern. 4o panel shall !e set in contact with another already laid till the contraction of the latter has already ta en place.

The ma'imum area of each panel shall !e 9.0 S..* of which no side shall !e more than 2.0 * long. - cement grout shall !e applied and wor ed into the surface to receive the finish, the under!ed then laid, compacted and leveled to proper grade with a screed or float. The topping shall !e applied evenly on the under!ed while it is not fully set !ut firm enough and rolled and pressed to get full !ond. The topping shall !e trawled to dense finish to the satisfaction of the Employer3s &epresentative. -ll trowel mar s shall !e mopped out with a soft cloth to give a clean smooth surface. -fter the surface is sufficiently set, the finished floor shall !e ept moist for > days for curing. $f desired the finish shall !e polished as directed !y the Employer3s &epresentative. 2.1.A *etallic +ardener 5i e ,$ronite, %inish This will consist of a topping /incorporating iron particles# to !ond with concrete !ase while the latter is ,)reen,. a# Thic ness ?nless otherwise specified the metallic hardener finish shall !e of 12 mm depth. !# *aterial The hardening compound shall !e uniformly graded iron particles free from non6ferrous metal impurities, oil, grease, sand solu!le al aline compounds or other in:urious materials. 7hen desired !y the engineer, actual samples shall !e tested. c# *i' Proportion of the metallic hardener shall !e as specified or as indicated !y the manufacturer. +owever, in a!sence of any such direction 1 part metallic hardener shall !e mi'ed dry with = parts cement, !e weight. To this mi'ture A mm nominal si(e stone chips shall !e added in proportion of 1 part cement /mi'ed with hardener# to 2 parts of stone chips !y volume and uniformly mi'ed. *inimum .uantity of water shall !e added to ma e it wor a!le. d# 5aying The concrete floor shall !e laid as per specification ,Cement concrete, and leveled upto the re.uired grade. Then forms, if any shall remain

sufficiently pro:ecting to ta e the finish. The surface shall !e roughened !y wire !rush as soon as possi!le. The finish shall !e laid while the concrete under!ed is still very ,green, within a!out 9 hours of laying of the latter. The finish shall !e of uniform thic ness and even dense surface without trowel mar s, pin holes etc. This topping layer shall !e pressed firmly and wor ed vigorously and .uic ly to secure full !ond with the concrete !ase. Fust when the initial set starts the surface shall !e finished smoothened with steel trowel. The finished floor shall !e cured for > days !y eeping it wet. 2.1.> *astic -sphalt %inish This is a one layer treatment on concrete or !ric !ase. a# Thic ness The thic ness shall !e as specified in the drawing or schedule of items. !# *aterials 1itumen shall !e industrial !itumen of the grades G0B1@ and >@B1@ conforming to $S " >02. *ineral filler shall !e dry stone dust passing through >@6micron $S Sieve. %ine aggregate shall !e crushed and graded natural lime stone or other hard6wor . Coarse aggregate shall !e crushed siliceous stone or other approved aggregate A mm stone chips shall !e used for finish upto 20mm thic H 10mm chips for thic er finish. c# Composition 1itumen mastic shall conform to $S " 11G@ and shall !e either !rought to site in !loc s weighing a!out 2@ g. or prepared at Site. $f !rought in !loc s, these shall !e re6melted in mechanically agitated mastic coo ers and coarse aggregate, prefera!ly preheated fed in successive portions until the complete change is thoroughly incorporated. -t no stage during the re6 melting and mi'ing process, shall the temperature e'ceed 20@oC. d# 5aying The hot mastic shall !e laid on dry !ase surface cleaned thoroughly !y wire !rushing and sweeping. The mastic shall !e leveled and when cooled to some e'tent shall !e finished with a wooden float with addition of small

.uantity of fine sand if re.uired. 4o load shall !e allowed till the finish has cooled to normal temperature. The mastic shall !e laid in suita!le panels of a!out 1@ s..m. in area each formed !y former. Succeeding panels shall !e laid overlapping the finish panel so as to melt its edges and form a continuous finish without :oint. 2.1.E Chemical &esistant in Situ %inish Chemical resistant in situ finish shall !e as epo'y resin with suita!le filler material over a primer. The minimum thic ness shall !e A mm. -!out its performance the Employer3s &epresentative shall have to !e fully satisfied !y test results and e'amination of similar treatment already in e'istence. The Contractor shall get it done !y a speciali(ed manufacturer, get guarantee of performance from the organi(ation and pass it on to the Owner in addition to his own guarantee. 2.1.G Epo'y Screeding -fter the concrete surfaces are properly cleaned and dried as mentioned a!ove, anti6corrosive treatment is to !e done in the following proportion with a coating of epo'y primer followed !y 1 or 2 coats of epo'y mortar /total thic ness shall !e minimum @ mm# and finally 2 seal coats of epo'y are to !e applied. The application of coatings are to !e done as per manufacturer8s specification and also to the satisfaction of the Employer3s &epresentative. - guarantee for = years from the date of certified completion of :o! or 1 year from date of commissioning of the plant whichever is later is to !e given !y the contractor. a# One coat of primer to !e applied in the following proportion over clean and dried concrete surface. -&-5C$TE )I 2@0 6 100 parts !y weight +-&C4E& +I E=0 6 @0 parts !y weight !# *inimum @ mm thic mortar !ased on following proportion to !e laid over the primer coat. -&-5C$TE )I 2@0 6 100 parts !y weight. +-C4E& +I E90 6 =@ parts !y weight. +-C4E& +I E@0 6 1@ parts !y weight. Tiled %inish These shall include tiles, stone sla!s and similar manufactured or natural items over already laid and matured !ase of concrete or masonry !y means of an under6 !ed or an adhesive layer.

2.2.1

Terra((o Tile %inish The finish will consist of manufacture terra((o tile and an under6!ed. a# Thic ness The total thic ness including the under6!ed shall !e minimum =0 mm for floors 90 mm for walls unless otherwise specified.
