Lamas, mother of private offended party +e$$ie L. ,eyes, is $eing offered to prove that the respondent ,icardo #. ,eyes is married to her daughter, the offended party, that while her daughter is initially happy and contented with the marriage, she noticed the months after the marriage that her daughter seems to $e rather sad of which she as a mother (uic-ly in(uired to. .rom her daughter she learned that her son in law, the accused, has ver$ally a$used her daughter when it got pregnant, all the while suspecting that the child it carries is not him. hat she confronted his son in law a$out this matter, however, the accused rudely answered her to stay out of their $usiness. hat, on the day that her daughter lost her $a$y, she is the one who informed her, and while hysterical, +e$$ie repeatedly $lame the accused who caused the a$ortion. /. 0. "s a mother, how is your impression to your son5in5law2 "t first, I didn7t li-e him, $ecause, I was thin-ing that he is too old for my daughter, not to mention, he was a former teacher of my daughter, $ut in a long while I $egan to accept their relationship. 4ow a$out when they got married2 +o you still have the same opinion of their relationship2 In the first few months, yes. 4owever, when +e$$ie gave us the news that she is pregnant, she didn7t happy a$out it. +idn7t you as- her why she seems not happy to $e pregnant2 I did $ut she says, that she was )ust stress. &o I let it pass, however, in the ne!t several conversation that we had, I -ept on noticing that something is wrong and as her mother I $ecame e!tremely worried. &o what did you do to ease your worry2 I as- her again, $ut this time she told me that her relationship with her hus$and is not good, that he is suspecting her of cheating on him and casting dou$t to the paternity of the child she carries. hat $ecause of this she always received ver$al a$use from her hus$and. "nd what did you do upon learning such information2 I was angry at first, however, when I calmed down, I tried to confront my son5in5 law a$out it. "nd what happen on such confrontation2 #y son5in law denied it at first, $ut when I insist the story of my daughter, he $ecame irritated and shouted at me telling me to stay out of their $usiness.

=hat happened on &eptem$er 6>, 2>/62 I was at home, when I received a call from my son5in5law that my daughter has $een hospitalized. &o, I rush at the hospital. +id your son5in5law ever tell you why +e$$ie has $een hospitalized2 3es, on the phone, when I as- him, he said that +e$$ie has a $leeding with regards to her pregnancy. =hat happened after you arrive in the hospital2 I as- my son5in5law again of what happened, $ut $efore he can reply, the doctor gave us the news of a$ortion. =ho told +e$$ie the news a$out the a$ortion2 I did. =hen +e$$ie wo-e up, I told her a$out the news. "nd how did she ta-e the news2 &he $ecame hysterical at first, she -ept saying that ,icardo -illed her $a$y. =hat was your reaction when she told you a$out this2 I didn7t $elieve it at first, at least not literally, however, when she calmed down, she told me that she was mauled at the head and -ic-ed $y her hus$and that7s why she $led that cause the a$ortion of her $a$y.
