Hello. As a leadership candidate, you have signed up to play a huge role in developing and implementing the activities that take place at American High School and within your community. With that role comes a great deal of responsibility. Not only will your creativity and organizational ability be put to the test, but also students, faculty, and staff will view you as a role model. Always remember that your decisions and actions not only represent you, but also your classmates, and the students at AHS. Embrace this opportunity to influence your peers and make a positive impact on this school. Be open-minded, vocal, and confident in your ideas. Finally, remember to enjoy what you are doing. Being a part of Americans leadership program is a privilege and you have the opportunity to help define this program and create a legacy. The best leaders lead by example and are willing to work harder than anyone else, because they strongly believe in their goals. In order to be of maximum effectiveness in serving the students and staff entrusted to us, regardless of race, religion, national origin or other personal interest and in promoting and supplementing the regular curriculum, it is the duty of all members of the American High School Leadership class to uphold the following I am committed to:

American High School Leadership Student Code

The School: I am responsible to all students of American High School. Individuals: I have a concern for every student in the school. As an integral part of my duties, I represent the authority and responsibility of the school. Students: As a student leader I must do my best to perform at my own capability and set a good example for all students. Rules and Policies: I must be aware of and comply with all school rules and policies. My position does not allow me special privileges. Decision Making: It is my obligation to participate in decisions pertaining to the student body. As a student leader, I can neither relinquish nor delegate this responsibility to any other individual.

Understanding and acting upon the foregoing premises, I shall: 1. Consider my position in the Leadership class as a trust and not use it for personal gain. Cultivate awareness that participation in athletics and activities is part of the total educational process and as such, the student should neither seek nor expect academic privileges for the participants. Be constantly aware of my position as a student leader and act accordingly. Attend all classes everyday barring illness or very special circumstance. Devote sufficient time and thought to the proposed action of the Leadership class. Solicit ideas and opinions from all students and staff of the school and work to incorporate their views in my decisions. Remember that the basic function of the Leadership class is to serve the best interests of the students and staff of American High School and the community at large. Avail myself of the opportunities for development of my potential as a student leader through participation in workshop, hands-on experiences and other educational situations available to me. Develop a working awareness and understanding of all rules and guidelines governing American High School, both in letter and intent. Exemplify proper self-control at all times, accepting adverse decisions without public display of emotion or dissatisfaction with the officials or judges. Encourage all to judge the true success of the athletic and activities programs on the basis of the attitude of the participants and spectators, rather than on the basis of a win or loss. Strongly encourage the development of proper health habits: the non-use of chemicals, including alcohol, steroids, tobacco in any form and other mood-altering substances. Acknowledge that the consequences of not meeting and maintaining standards set in the Leadership class Code will result in disciplinary actions culminating in the removal from the class. Disciplinary action will include: a. Student-Teacher Conference b. 30-day suspension from all school activities c. Removal from class Remain conscious of the view others have of my actions and realize that my individual actions reflect on the whole of Leadership class and to do my best to be a good role model for others to follow. COMMISSION DESCRIPTIONS ***Below are the descriptions of the various appointed positions in Leadership. Please list your top three choices on a separate piece of paper and answer the questions included with the job descriptions of your desired positions. *** 1. Sports Marketing The purpose is to promote all sports/sporting events at American. To have all information available for all students and administrators in a form of a calendar for upcoming games. Promote all sports and sporting events What sports have you participated in at American? List ideas you have to increase ticket sales to ALL sporting events at American? Logistics/The Ultimate Organizers The purpose is to help organize big events being held at American whatever that may be.. You have to come up with ideas to organize events in a timely and neat fashion. Homecoming, Dances, Extra Curricular Activities etc. On a scale of 1-10 how organized would you say you are? Can you still work well under slight pressure? Are you willing to attend out of school events? Merchandise & Communications The purpose is to connect the student body with leadership by providing school related apparel in order to promote school spirit. What do you know about basic food preparation? Community Outreach The purpose is to become an enrooted member of the community through organizing mass community service events that the whole school can par take in. You will be responsible for new ideas concerning community outreach.. Recognition The purpose of recognition is to show appreciation and give support to the extracurricular activities that the students participate in at Foothill. Community Awareness The purpose is to create projects that engage the American student body with our community. Rallies The purpose is to gather the student body as a whole and create a fun, entertaining, informative rally to boost the spirit of the Eagle Nation as a whole. Welcome Back, Fall Sports, Homecoming, Winter Sports, International, Spring, End of Year. Can you create a 30 minute show that would be enjoyable for 2000 people to watch? Public Relations The purpose is to effectively advertise the school events, such as ones including leadership and club activities using various methods of media.
