Arabian Nights: Annual Military Ball


The TX802 Sheldon Cadet Squadron held their annual ball on Friday, 3 May 2013. The annual ball is sponsored by the TX802 Squadron Boosters. The evening began with the entrance of the head table, followed by the presentation of colors and the presentation of the POW/MIA table. The squadron cadet commander, C/Lt Col Edwards, did a great job as the MC of the evening. A Middle Eastern dinner was served after the initial introductions and presentations. Cadets, senior members and guests enjoyed samosa, chicken & steak shish kabobs, vermicelli rice and pita bread. The meal was enjoyed by all and followed by a trip to the dessert bar. After the meal concluded Lt Col Levesque began the nights awards presentations and promotions. Senior Member 2Lt Donnelly received the first award of the evening when she was presented with the Senior of the Year award. NCO of the Year was presented to C/SMSgt Gallegos and Airmen of the Year was presented to C/SSgt Figueroa. The May promotions were for/to: C/SSgt Reyes & C/SrA Najera. After the award

presentations it was time for the cadets to dance and have fun! In addition to helping absorb the costs, to keep the tickets at $10 per cadet, for the first time ever the booster club also provided a photo booth, for cadets to take pictures in during the dance. The fun pictures were provided at no cost to the cadets, and while the line was long we believe that all cadets eventually were able to take at least one turn. Pictures from the photo booth are available in the squadron gallery (in the Military Ball section) at www.tx802.com/gallery/ If your cadet took formal pictures at the military ball, they should be delivered to the school, and distributed to your cadet, before the Memorial Day holiday.

Squadron Boosters News... Commanders Corner...


We are finishing the year on a strong and busy note. We had the promotion ceremony with the highlight being the first rocketry badges awarded in many years. The outstanding Military Ball, sponsored the Booster Club and chaired by Capt Mathis, was well attended and a good time was enjoyed by all. The remaining activities are summer encampment. We will be sending cadets to Illinois, Texas - 26 June 3 July, and Louisiana from 13-20 July as we normally do, but we are scheduled to take select cadets to the Ropes Course in Huntsville 21 & 22 May as a motivation and team building event. It has been ten years since the squadron went there and it is time to return. One final note is that Mr. Floyd said we could return to Seguin during the period of 15 May to 15 June. Dates are being discussed. Executive board elections were held on 25 April 2013. The following officers were elected to serve for the 2013/2014 year: President: D. Michael Schulin, Jr; VicePresident: Elisa Hill; Secretary: Vacant; Treasurer: Ray Hicks; Parliamentarian: LaShonda Jackson-Dean.
