Regional Training Workshop on Climate Adaptation Technologies 9-12 April 2014 Dhaka, Bangladesh
Venue: ICCCAD, Dhaka, Bangladesh

Introduction UNEP and IIED along with the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) are organizing a regional training workshop on climate adaptation technologies from the 9th to 12th of April, 2014, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The aim of the workshop is to raise awareness, share experiences, and provide capacity building training to 16 Asian partner countries (Bangladesh, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Mongolia, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan) on climate change adaptation technologies and their application, in particular targeting water resource management, agriculture, and coastal zone management. Two nominated candidates from each of the 16 partner countries will be invited to participate in the workshop. This workshop is one of the activities of the UNEP/Asian Development Bank (ADB) AsiaPacific Pilot Climate Technology Network and Finance Centre (CTNFC) project. ADB and UNEP are working in partnership with funding from the GEF to pilot a climate technology finance centre in Manila, managed by ADB, and a climate technology network secretariat in Bangkok, managed by UNEP. The climate technology network secretariat managed by UNEP focuses on creating capacity readiness and enabling conditions for market transformation interventions in the region through fostering knowledge sharing, public-private partnerships, and the development of institutional capacity and climate technology policies. activities: (a) Facilitating a network of national and regional technology centres, organizations, and initiatives; (b) building and strengthening national and regional climate technology centres and centres of excellence; and (c) designing, developing, and implementing country-driven climate technology transfer policies, programs, demonstration projects, and scale-up strategies. The activities under the project will also support and generate valuable experiences for the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) established under the UNFCCC. It is also envisaged that the workshop will lead to the sharing of experiences between countries and help clarify the application of adaptation technologies, thus facilitating the formulation of technical requests for assistance from the CTCN with regards to these technologies. The secretariat is implementing three main sets of

Objectives The objectives of the workshop are: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) Improving the understanding of different climate adaptation technologies and their application for water resource management, agriculture and coastal zone management; Sharing information and lessons learnt on the application of adaptation technologies within the partners countries in Central, South and Southeast Asia; Taking stock of what countries are doing on their respective adaptation plans and how they can be used to generate requests for support under the CTCN; The workshop will also highlight the activities under the CTNFC project in supporting countries in advancing their technology transfer process. Participants 32 maximum (2 nominations from each partner country - Bangladesh, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Mongolia, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan) The participants are to be nominated by respective CTNFC project focal points (or climate change focal points in the case where there is no project focal point).

Methodology The training workshop will be conducted through lecture sessions, case studies and interactive discussions, and the development of strategic plans. It will be supported by audio visual aids such as PC and Multimedia Presentations. A field visit is also planned to showcase the application of some of the adaptation technologies. IIED will also prepare compendium of 8-10 adaptation technologies implemented in the partner countries on the basis of the presentations made by the participants. Presentations by Countries: As part of this workshop, each invited country is requested to bring a short 10 minute presentation (4-5 slides) on the experiences of their country in adaptation planning and experiences in implementation of adaptation technologies, including best practices and challenges
