SUMMARY OF CLINICAL ROTATION (UPHSL OR/DR) (November 18-21, 2013)

Expectation/s in the Clinical Area Will handle patients that could be for a surgical procedure either be a diagnostic exam, exploratory, curative or palliative and cases would depend if its a minor case or major depending on the degree of risks. Well do nursing care either pre -operative, intra or post in the area

Discussion We had discussions about Perioperative nursing and all about the OR setting, the Surgical Team, Anesthesias, Medical & Surgical Asepsis, Principles of sterility and different nursing care for the patient Pre-Op, Intra, and Post-Op.

Summary of Activities First we begin the activity by first looking at the bulletin board for the list of cases that is scheduled for the day and looking for the labor room if there are some patients laboring and will be expected to deliver soon. If we had vacant time we do the discussions especially if there is no case yet or procedure thatll be done/ there is no patient.

Recommendation Improve cases information and clarity on the log book, for student nurse to understand it well

SUMMARY OF CLINICAL ROTATION (UPHSL Tamayo Tower 3rd flr.) (November 18-21, 2013)

Expectation/s in the Clinical Area Will handle common patient cases, do the nursing rounds per shift and endorsement, standard monitoring of vital signs and giving meds to the patient IVF checking and do charting after nursing assessment.

Discussion We had discussions about acute biologic crisis but we focus more on angina and myocardial infarction and the difference of management between the two and how distinguish them from one another.

Summary of Activities First thing we do in the area is listening to the endorsement then well get the individual patient assignment. During the room to room endorsement there would be initial interaction with the patient checking IVF and do assessments. After that we read the chart to get information and know the meds to be given. Then do the VS monitoring depending on the doctors order and then we do our sample charting and then plot it to the chart together with the V/S and the I& O of our patient before doing the endorsement to the staff and leaving the area.

Recommendation Improve students lounge to accommodate student nurses.
