INTRODUCTION: PROBLEM OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN MALAYSIA

Public transportation is the vehicle that people use to travel from one place to another. There are various types of public transport provided in Malaysia such as LRT (Light Rail Transit), KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu), RAPIDKL, ERL (Express Rail Link), taxi and buses. Public transportation in Malaysia has been upgraded by the government from a long time ago until now. Although it has been upgraded, it is still has several problems that affect the public transportation user. Malaysians people, especially in Kuala Lumpur, they have had to deal with poor public transport services over the years. So, we have make a research about problem in public transportation in Malaysia. First, the problem is the Light Rail Transit (LRT), are frequently late. Mechanical failures are common in Keretapi Tanah Malays (KTM) Komuter coaches. The user has to wait about an hour to start the journey. KTMs users always having problem when they always late because of the delay of train arrivals. Then, the staff or workers that work in the railways station always being rude to others. This is another serious problem to the LRTs users. It is not good because of the workers symbolize the image of the company. If the workers attitude is impolite, then the company already has a bad image.

HYPOTHESIS Based on our surveyed to the students of KPTM Kuala Lumpur, we found that there are some problems that experienced by students KPTM when using public transportation. The reason they chose using public transport because it is easy to get to college and because they do not had their own transport. By using public transport is plentiful with problems that might be experienced by users whether male or female. Users should be careful with such a situation. There are some examples of problems that students of KPTM experienced when using public transport. Firstly, we found that the most of problem experienced by KPTMs male students is sexual harassment. They have complained that they had experienced about this is during they hangs out with their friends on weekends and during the peak time when people return from work to home. There are 3 students of male who had experiencing due to sexual harassment. They said that most of the molester that molested them is from the foreigners such as Negro man and Bangladesh man. Besides, there are also other public transport problems experienced by students. It is the problem of traffic congestion. This happens especially in the morning when people want to work and in the evening when she was returning from work. This congestion causes many students who own transport had difficulties and take some time to get to their homes as our college is located in Kuala Lumpur. This can cause the students themselves late to attend class and they will feel tired by driving to return home.

Other than that, they also complained that the frequency of the service is too slow especially Light Rail Transit (LRT). This happened around the morning around 8 to 10 am and also happened in the evening. They said that sometimes they have to wait for the LRT comes within 15 to 20 minutes. Me myself had experienced that while waiting for the LRT. The late of LRT cause many people who have to wait and rush to get into the train. The LRT stations that always had the problem with people waiting for it are Hang Tuah and Masjid Jamek stations. This is the examples of public transport problems. In conclusion, public transport is good to used in order to reduce the traffic congestion, also can avoid the problem of air pollution and many more. We not denied that by using public

transport was their risk such as road accidents, congestion, and sexual harassment. But we should know how to take care of ourselves because it is our own responsibility. So, without public transport, we cannot reach at our destination.

METHOD

Survey is the method that we use to get the result about the problem of public transport in Malaysia. In this survey we choose to give the questionnaire for the Kolej Poly Tech Mara (KPTM) students, which is most of them took a public transport as their transportation to go somewhere. Besides that, almost of them using public transport because of public transport is cheaper, plus government provide a reload card for who regularly use public transport such as bus and train.

Our survey include age, occupation and sex. The result based on the criteria that we put in the survey. Based on our survey, most of the time female regularly use public transport as their transport. The result is female choose the public transport because of they doesnt have their own vehicle and doesnt have a license yet. Mostly, male students have their own vehicle which is motorcycle and car.

Second criteria of our survey which is age. Mostly range 18 to 22 years old regularly use public transport almost every day. Based on our survey, students age 18 to 22 years old will choose public transport as their transport to go somewhere such as college, back to hometown or etc.

Third criteria in our survey is occupation. The survey that we done is at Kolej Poly Tech Mara (KPTM) so the respondent is the student of the KPTM. The occupation of the respondent is student. Most of the student in KPTMKL will use public transport as their transport. Besides that, still have certain student will use their own vehicle as their transport. Most of the student choose public transport because in KPTMKL have a limited parking to the student and have a lot of risk.

Based on our survey, we can conclude that female regularly use public transport. From many aspect female will use public transport as their major transportation. The aspect is about money, safety and time. Its worth it to use public transport because most of the public transport will be punctual in time, plus the fare also commensurate with the service that they provide to the users. The suggestion that we get from the respondent which is the government improve the services and add more train time to time.

CONCLUSION

Public Transportation contains all several occupancy vehicle services designed to transport customers on local roads. It is transportation by van, bus, or rail or other transport, either privately or publicly owned, providing to the public general or special service. People use public transport to avoid traffic jams, fast and it is more economical to go wherever and whenever. With general topic of public transportation, we chose a smaller choice of the topic which focused on the differences between male and female in transportation. By bearing this topic in our minds, we have come up with different statements or hypothesis which cogitates as common sense in our society. From side to side to completed survey which carried out around KPTM KL of our subjects which are the students of KPTM KL, we are trying to find the proofs which able to support our hypothesis. Besides that, our questionnaires contain of twenty-five different questions which focusing on answering the hypothesis stated earlier in this report. We provide twenty five copies of questionnaires and we distribute the questionnaires to twenty five different students of KPTM KL. The questionnaires has been given to KPTM KL students are easy as the subjects. The students will only need to choose the choices which refer to them the best based answer on the given questions. Through the surveyed, we are able to prove that the female who often use public transport than men. The outcome is that female rely more on public transportation more than men and, it shows that both genders agree on the fact that public transportation is a good value for money. Moreover, majority of both sexes had never been rude to and the buses come frequently and it shows that male receive more sexual harassment than female. Other than that, the transportation is safe and also clean.

In conclusion, there are things that which the society considered as common sense are actually opposite of the reality. However, these common sense are considered as critical in order for a society to attraction some borderline for the people in the society in order to create what the society called as equilibrium of the society. Through this project, we are able to gain new perspectives in life as well as being aware that the society is not always what it seems on the surface.
