SqueezeCRETE *

Imagine you could inject a remediation material into small gaps that no cement would penetrate. Imagine that once placed, it developed the high compressive strength and low permeability necessary for permanent well repair. SqueezeCRETE is a cementitious material specifically designed to penetrate more efficiently in narrow gaps without bridging, or dehydrating during placement. SqueezeCRETE has proven to inject twice as efficiently as micro-cements into narrow slots. In lab testing, SqueezeCRETE has been injected in gaps as small as 160 microns in width. Once placed, SqueezeCRETE develops over 2000 psi compressive strength and low permeability. So it can be used to seal casing leaks, liner tops or any other situation where a permanent seal is required. Its low viscosity keeps surface treating pressures low. Coupled with a density lower than conventional portland cement this also avoids putting pressure on older casing and down-hole completion tubulars. SqueezeCRETE is also acid and corrosive brine resistant. This means SqueezeCRETE can seal old perforations even when future acid stimulation is planned. SqueezeCRETE is compatible with many conventional cementing additives, and can be prepared in existing cement equipment.

Features: Low injection pressures, place instead of squeeze cement Penetrates narrow gaps much deeper than conventional squeeze slurries Compressive strengths higher than conventional portland cements for equal density Improved resistance to corrosive fluids Temperature range from 40 to 350F

Applications: - Primary repair: liner tops, casing shoes, collar leaks - Remediation applications: casing splits, microannuli, vent flows, tight perforations

Case History: SqueezeCRETE avoids major well re-completion costs

Problem: An old set of perforations need to be closed off before a well can be re-perforated and brought back on line. However, while these perforations will produce water, they will not accept any measurable injection rate to allow a squeeze cementing treatment. If they cannot be shut off with cement, an internal liner will have to be used and existing completions will require replacement with smaller down-hole tubulars. Solution: SqueezeCRETEs ability to penetrate very narrow gaps with low surface pressure allow injection in areas other cements cant get to. Once placed, it offers a low permeability seal with high compressive strength and acid resistance. Result: The perforations were soaked in acid. 7 barrels of SqueezeCRETE were spotted and pressure was applied while the SqueezeCRETE cured. After 24 hours, the well was drilled out, and the SqueezeCRETE was tested against differential pressure from both the well and formation side successfully. The well was re-perforated and re-completed with out further difficulties and with pre-existing tubulars.

SqueezeCRETE systems have combined slurry and set properties superior to conventional Portland cement systems. However, SqueezeCRETE is still mixable with standard cementing equipment and compatible with Portland cement retarders.

Gap width (microns) Conventional microcements have limited penetration in narrow slot tests. SqueezeCRETE penetrates farther even in slots of less than 150 microns.
