Picture frames, wall wreaths and refrigerator magnets are a few of the fun and easy items kids can make from Play Clay. Use the basic shapes or create new ones. Once they get started, let kids imagination and creative talent lead the way!
Hang all your childrens artwork with magnets they make themselves. Cut shape from rolled-out clay using a cookie cutter, pattern or free form. Try shapes in the form of fruits, vegetables, animals, hearts or flowers. Glue magnet to back.
REFRIGERATOR MAGNET
Imagine how proud the kids will be making a beautiful frame for Grandma and Grandpa! Measure and cut a square or oval to desired size. Using a plastic knife, cut out square from center for photograph. Do not make sides too thin (they may break). Use another piece of clay for the stand on back. Decorate with finger-formed rose buds, add shells or twigs for a natural look, or draw designs on with a sharp object. When adding decorations, apply them while the clay is still damp or glue them on after it is dry.
PICTURE FRAMES
Capture the imprint of your childs hand (or foot) for a lifetime of memories. Simply place hand or foot into clay while it is still damp. Write the name of your child, and the date. When dry, paint, then finish with a clear acrylic spray. Glue hanger to back.
Kids can personalize their rooms! Form or cut letters and attach to a rectangular piece of Play Clay while still wet. When dr y, paint, then finish with a clear acrylic spray. Glue hanger on back.
NAME PLAQUE
MIRROR FRAME
Use the same instructions as for the Picture Frame. Glue mirror to frame, then add hanger on the back.
For a neat gift, have kids cut out a square of rolled-out clay and paint or decorate. Be sure to finish these items with a clear spray. Display on a table or shelf or hang on the wall. Its a good idea to glue felt on the bottom of any item that will sit on a table to prevent scratches.
HOT PLATE
Add cookie cutter shapes or freeform shapes to a ready-made wreath. Add ribbon and bows as a finishing touch. Consider spray painting the wreath before adding decorations for a different look.
WALL WREATH
Form a circle about 1/2 thick and 2 in diameter for paperweight, 3 diameter for coaster. Use a coin, metal button or wooden blocks to make an imprint on the surface. Decorate with dried flowers, shells, paint, glitter or anything your kids imagine.

Let imaginations really go! Ghosts, witches, goblins, black cats, bats, skeletons, pumpkins ... Kids can make shapes, then paint them for decorations or jewelry. Holidays are a great time for kids to make special ornaments, table decorations or gifts for their friends, family and teachers. Here are some ideas to get them started.
HALLOWEEN EASTER
CHRISTMAS
Decorate Easter baskets with shapes made from Play Clay. Use cookie cutters or patterns to form eggs, bunnies, ducks and chicks. To decorate, use jelly beans or hard candy.
Make heart shapes with a cookie cutter and use for pins, earrings or necklaces. For a sweet gift, hang a heart shape on a cord to make a pendant necklace.
VALENTINES DAY
Springs here! Let kids make Mom a small flower pot. Use the instructions for making a box. Place a small plant inside. Make sure the inside of the pot is water-proofed by using shellac or other finish. Use a plastic bag as a liner.
MOTHERS DAY
Candy Canes: Play Clay candy canes are great gifts for teachers. Make two batches of Play Clay, using food dye to color one batch red. Roll each batch of clay out into long, snake-like lengths. Twist one red and one white piece of equal length together while still damp. Bend into candy cane shape. Make a hole at the top to use it as an ornament.
Kids can make place holders for the holiday table! Use cookie cutters to create turkeys, Pilgrims, pumpkins and leaf shapes, or use a pattern of your own. While still wet, write each guests name into clay (or cut a large hole in center of clay designs and use as napkin holders). Let kids decorate with paints and natural materials.
FATHERS DAY
For Dad, kids can make a frame, paperweight or plaque. Another great gift would be bookends. Let them be creative when thinking of shapes and items to make. Consider Dads hobbies or favorite sports.

How To Make
PLAY CLAY RECIPE
1 One Pound Box ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda (2 Cups) 1 Cup ARGO or KINGSFORDS Corn Starch 11/4 Cups Cold Water (add food coloring to color clay) With a few simple shapes, kids can form Play Clay into a world of imaginative gifts and decorations. For most shapes, simply place Play Clay between two sheets of waxed paper and roll out to 1/4 thickness using a rolling pin. Shapes can be made thicker, but remember that they will need more drying time. Kids can use cookie cutters to shape Play Clay. Simply roll out clay and cut shapes. If clay sticks to cutters, use MAZOLA No StickTM cooking spray. .
STIR together baking soda and corn starch in saucepan. Add water and COOK*
over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches consistency of moist mashed potatoes (approximately 10-15 minutes). If clay is cooked too long, finished crafts may crack.
REMOVE mixture to plate and cover with damp cloth. When Play Clay is cool enough to handle, PAT until
smooth. Now youre ready to make fun shapes!
* In cooking, cutting and baking Play Clay, adults should assist young children.
COOKIE CUTTERS
AIR Place finished, decorated objects on wire rack. Dry overnight (8 hours). OVEN Pre-heat oven to 350 o F. Turn oven off, then place finished, decorated objects on a cookie sheet in oven until oven is cold. MICROWAVE Place finished, decorated objects on paper towel. Bake at medium power for 30 seconds; turn crafts over and bake for 30 seconds more. Repeat until Play Clay is completely dry. Let cool before handling. COLORED CLAY When mixing clay, substitute food color for some of the water to create fun and festive colors. PAINT Paint dry pieces with water color, poster or acrylic paints. Apply glitter to wet paint. Use felt-tip pen or waterproof marker for drawing and glue to apply details. DECORATIVE ELEMENTS Many objects found around the house and yard will help create unique Play Clay crafts. Use buttons or coins to imprint a pattern on a craft. Or accent a design with beads, macaroni, leaves, shells or bark. Either place the decorations on Play Clay while its wet, or apply with glue to dried craft. FINISHING Protect finished Play Clay objects with clear acrylic spray or clear nail polish.
PATTERNS
To construct a Play Clay pattern, use cardboard to trace around a shape or picture from a magazine or book. Cut out cardboard tracing, then place pattern on rolled-out Play Clay. Using a plastic knife, with adult supervision, carefully cut around pattern.
BOXES BEADS
Design boxes from rolled-out Play Clay, making four sides and a bottom. Put together when clay is wet. Make lid separately. For round box, cut rolled-out clay into strip and place around 11/2 circle. Make another circle for lid.
To make beads, form oval or round Play Clay shapes between your fingers. While damp, push a toothpick through the bead, turning slightly to make a hole for stringing. For larger holes use a small straw.
FREE FORM
LEFTOVERS You can store any unused Play Clay for up to a week. Simply place in a tightly sealed plastic bag or container and refrigerate. Do not freeze. Bring to room temperature before using.
Kids dont need a pattern to make a design. They can mold Play Clay by hand into any shape they want. Let their imagination discover all the different things to make with Play Clay.
