4 Icons Activities The Assignment activity allows staff to set tasks, collect work and provide grades and feedback to students. With the Blackboard IM activity, staff and/or students can see whos online and available for instant communication. The Chat activity enables staff and/or students to have text-based, real-time synchronous online discussions. The Choice activity lets staff ask a single question to which students can choose one response. The Database activity allows staff and students to create, maintain and search a collection of database entries. The External Tool activity encourages students to interact with learning resources and activities on other web sites. The Feedback activity enables staff to create a custom survey for collecting feedback from students. The Forum activity encourages staff and/or students to have text-based, non-real-time asynchronous online discussions. The Glossary activity allows staff and students to create and maintain a list of definitions. The Group choice activity lets students self-enrol into groups that staff have already created. Staff can use the Lesson activity to create a set of content pages or activities that offer students a variety of paths through them. Mediasite is a tool for recording and storing face to face presentations. The Mediasite Content activity allows staff to include links to these presentations in their courses. The Quiz activity enables a lecturer to create quizzes using various question types. A SCORM package is a collection of files which are packaged according to an agreed standard for learning objects.

The Survey activity provides a number of verified survey instruments that have been found useful in assessing and stimulating learning in online environments. The Turnitin Assignment activity creates a Turnitin dropbox for students to submit work to. Voice Authoring (recorder) embeds an audio announcement, recorded by lecturers, directly into a course. Voice Boards are threaded, voice-based discussion boards that add audio components to asynchronous discussion forums. Voice E-Mails allow staff and students to add audio recordings to traditional emails. Voice Podcaster simplifies podcasting with an easy-to-use recording interface, automatic feed creation and 1-click subscription. Voice Presentations combine audio and text-based commentary alongside a website or web-based content. The Wiki activity enables participants to add and edit a collection of web pages. Wimba Classroom allows staff and students to meet synchronously online, using multi-way audio and video, application sharing and content display. The Wimba Voice activity is a combination of all the other voicetools. The Workshop activity enables the collection, review and peer assessment of students' work.

Resources The Book resource enables a lecturer to create a multipage resource in a book-like format, with chapters and sub chapters. The EQUELLAResource (or Brookes RADAR resource) enables a lecturer to link to content stored in our RADAR repository. This icon may change slightly. The File resource enables a lecturer to provide a file as a course resource. The Folder resource allows a lecturer to display a number of related files inside a single folder. An IMS content package is a collection of files which are packaged according to an agreed standard so they can be reused in different systems. The Label resource allows staff to add text and multimedia into the course page in between links to other resources and activities. The Lightbox Gallery resource enables students to view a gallery of images. The Page resource lets a lecturer create a web page resource using a text editor. The URL resource allows a lecturer to add a web link to a Moodle space.
