ENGLISH LANGUAGE STORYTELLING COMPETITION 2010 1.

0 INTRODUCTION Story-telling, one of the common classroom activities, helps to capture the interest and imagination of pupils. A lot of talking time is shared by the teacher and the pupils. A competition in the school level will act as the first step to further enhance the teaching and learning process towards the development of proficiency in the English Language at the primary school level. 2.0 OBJECTIVES 2. !o create an English Language speaking culture in the school. 2.2 !o build up pupils" confidence in speaking English. 2.# !o enable the pupils to use the language in a more e$pressive, creative and en%oyable manner as in a more simple but concise English. 2.& !o develop awareness of the importance of English Language as a communication skill. 2.' Serves as a meaningful co-curricular activity for the pupils to show their talents. 2.( !o inculcate the spirit of )competition* among the pupils. 3.0 PARTICIPATION !his competition is open to all +ear 2 to +ear ' pupils of both mediums. 4.0 RULES AND REGULATIONS &. !he competition is open to all +ear 2 to +ear ' pupils of both mediums. &..2 !he competition is divided into two categories, -ategory A . +ear 2 / +ear # -ategory 0 . +ear & / +ear ' &.# Each class must ! represented by t"# participants. &.& !he competition will be held as follows, 1ate , 2th August 22 2 3!uesday4 !ime , 2.22 p.m. 5enue , -onference 6oom &.' !he selection of stories may be originally written, adapted or authentic. &.( !he stories must be educational and have positive moral values. !hey should not touch on politics, racial or religious sentiments. &.7 8or -ategory A, each contestant is given 9 minutes to proceed with his:her story. !he first warning bell will be rung after the 'th minute and the last bell after the 9th minute.

8or -ategory 0, each contestant is given 2 minutes to proceed with his:her story. !he first warning bell will be rung after the 7th minute and the last bell after the 2th minute. &.9 ;arks will also be awarded for attractive and appropriate using of story-telling aids. 3;a$imum of ' marks4 &.< A ma$imum of 2 marks will be deducted if a contestant, 3a4 touches on sensitive issues pertaining to politics, racial or religious sentiments, =6 3b4 presents his:her story in less than ' minutes and 7 minutes for -ategory A and 0 respectively. &. 2 >articipants will be disqualified if a contestant, 3a4 reads directly from or refers to story te$t, =6 3b4 is prompted by others. &. !he marking system will be based on the following aspects, 3a4 Language and proficiency 3&2 marks4 3b4 1elivery and presentation 3#' marks4 3c4 Story line and theme 322 marks4 3d4 -ostumes 3' marks4 3e4 >enalty 3 - 2 marks ma$imum4 &. 2 ?n case of a tie, the following criterion will be taken into account in the order of priority, 3a4 Language 3b4 1elivery 3c4 !heme &. # !he %udges" decisions are final and no appeals by the contestants or any other party would be entertained. &. & !rophies will be given to the best # contestants in both categories. &.
