DENGUE CASES ON THE RISE

PETALING JAYA: Deaths from dengue fever more than doubled compared with the same period last year and more cases have been recorded nationwide as well. In a statement on Monday, Health Ministry deputy director Datuk Lokman Hakim Sulaiman said so far this year, 59 deaths have been recorded, which is a 119% increase from last years 27. The ministry revealed that in the last week (Oct 13-19) alone, four deaths caused by severe dengue with multiple organ failure have been recorded in high -risk areas. The worst affected state is Selangor, registering 13,157 dengue cases so far and 16 deaths, followed by Johor, which had 3,320 cases and 13 deaths.
