In Nursery Class this week we have been learning all about road safety.

We have learnt about the Green Cross Code and we spoke about the safest way to cross the road. We also used the zebra crossing and traffic lights in the playground, used the cars to make some track paintings and learnt about patterns by making our very own zebra crossings.

The children in Reception Class have been very eager to write their own stories this week, using the 'Helicopter Technique' for storytelling and story acting. They've done a superb job at creating all sorts of imaginative stories about everything from fairy pirates to explosions to sea rescues! In this lovely technique used with young children, the adults scribe the children's stories, word for word and the children get to do the exciting parts - illustrating their stories and choosing which character they'd like to be. Then the whole class gathers around a stage area and helps to act out the different stories. Its absolutely magical and everyone in our class is always bursting to take part!

Prince Charming came to visit Year 1 this week! In literacy we have been looking at characters speech and question writing. We looked at children interviewing famous people including Barack Obama and looked at how to write interesting questions. We treated our time with Prince Charming very seriously. We found out lots of information about Mr and Mrs Charming as well as things about where he comes from, what he does in his free time and about what motivated him to set off on a quest to find sleeping beauty. He was very posh and ate lots of funny things like gold dust on toast and magical mash. We also finished off our presentations this week and they were fantastic! We are really looking forward to our shadow puppet theatre next week as well as looking at play scripts. Press here to see more photos.

In Year 2/3 we had a wonderful time raising money for Sport Relief at Spitalfields Market. We really wanted to know how much we'd made, so when we got back to class we sorted all the coins and used our times tables and addition to find the total amount. Each table sorted the coins into separate piles: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, 1 and 2 and then calculated the total value of each pile. We then added all of these totals together to find that we had raised 454.67 It was a really fun maths lesson with a fantastic real-life context. Well done Year 2/3!!! Press here.

This week, the focus was for children to pay forward positive comments to each other with a view to making each others day. The prizes and some of the certificates reflected this effort so well done to all! Next weeks focus for Nursery and Reception Classes is to tidy up their outdoor things when theyve finished with them and for Year 1, 2 and 3 to continue with the theme of empathy and really demonstrate they know how it feels to be someone else. The Artist of the Week went to Erica in Reception Class. The drawings that accompanied her story showed thoughtful attention to detail and it was lovely to see all the smiley faces! Well done! The Musician of the Week goes to Holly in Year 2. During our fundraising at Spitalfields Market on Tuesday she excelled in putting 100% effort into her performance. Her energy inspired others to keep going, even though it was cold and wet! She is always very well behaved during our weekly music sessions; it is lovely to see her confidence growing.

Nursery Class Alberta for being very helpful throughout the week including helping to tidy the playground. Also for always being so kind and lovely to her friends and helping them to resolve any conflicts in a fair manner. Well done! Alfie for always being so happy and friendly towards his friends and for trying really hard with our counting games. Also for still being so happy to come into nursery in the mornings - well done! Reception Class Hugo. For your fantastic concentration and effort every single day in phonics lessons. You listen beautifully, work well with your partner and your independent spelling always dazzles me. It's no surprise that you are such a super reader and speller! Year 1 Iris, for completing all of her work to a very high standard in the given timeframe. Iris is also a model student when it comes to sitting on the carpet and lining up. She also displays an eagerness to help the teachers and her class mates. Year 2/3 Eva, for really thinking about other peoples feelings during our circle time this week. Eva showed real empathy and understanding of the topics discussed. She gave fantastic definitions of what bullying is and what to do if people are not being nice to you. Well done!

Parent/Teacher Consultation Week NEXT WEEK Hopefully by now you would have used our snazzy online booking system to reserve 15 minutes to see your child(ren)s class teacher. Please press here to access the service and do ask if you are having any problems. I sent the password with the original email and I will resend with the email with this newsletter attached.

Rosemary Works will open the doors to their Secret Shop in aid of Mothers Day. The shop will be open during the school day on Thursday 27th March.

For just 5 each, children will be able to select a present for Mummy, Grandma or any other special female in their lives. They will then choose the gift wrapping, so no opportunity for sneaky peaking before Sunday!

Its a great opportunity for the children to use real money, making their own independent choices in a fun way.

Please place your order in advance (so that we know how many gifts are required). See Alannah for the flyer and order form.

Onesie Wednesday 2nd April

The National Autistic Society say, Onesie Wednesday was created to encourage people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to show their support for anyone on the autistic spectrum. By wearing a onesie or your pyjamas youre saying "its alright to be different". Which is just what we believe.

.So on this day, children can come to school in their onesies or pyjamas and make a

donation to The National Autistic Society. The Early Years Centre will also be participating. Press here for more information.

Last Day of Term Easter Bonnet Parade

We traditionally ask the children on the last day of term leading up to Easter to dress in festive clothes and design and wear an Easter bonnet. There will be no winners or losers this year. Every child who comes in school looking the part will receive a little something. Press here to see previous years. If the weather is good on April 4th, we plan to take the children to Rosemary Gardens in the afternoon for an Easter Egg Hunt. Watch this space for more details. Please also note that there will be no swimming sessions that week (WB 31st March)
