Course Structure
The University's system of credit accumulation and transfer
means that it is possible to vary the speed at which you study
for the MBA. Normally, however, the following study pattern
will be followed and allow completion of the programme in 27
months.

The MBA is the most advanced and sought-after taught
management programme in the UK. The Huddersfield MBA
recognises that the professional manager of the future needs
the highest level of management education and personal
development.
As many managers gain promotion, and may be required to
leave the area during the programme, the MBA has a number
of important features that make it attractive to those whose
careers are flourishing:
• The programme attracts credits at each stage. These
can be transferred to other institutions to allow you to
continue your studies elsewhere, if necessary.
• On successful completion of the first three terms you
will be awarded a Diploma in Management Studies.
This is a nationally recognised management
qualification in its own right.
• The programme provides Chartered Management
Institute qualifications alongside the MBA. You are
able to gain professional qualifications as well as
your MBA without the need for additional study or
assessment.
Attendance
• Two evenings per week (Monday and Wednesday, 6-
9.15 pm).
• One afternoon and evening per week (normally
Wednesday). 2.00pm – 9.15pm
• Block mode - 4 blocks per year (Thursday -Sunday)
The programme includes some residential elements (normally
one per academic year) held away from the University.
Teaching Methods
A range of teaching methods are used with great emphasis
being placed on group discussion.
Participants are expected to share their experiences in order
to enrich the learning that takes place. Lectures will provide
the formal input to the modules. These will be supplemented
by guided reading and class preparation of case study
analyses. Workshop, tutorial and seminar activities will also be
utilised.
Assessment
A variety of assessment methods will be employed to assess
the programme. This will include individual and group reports,
essays, learning logs, time constrained assessment activities
as well as a dissertation.
Career Progression
MBA graduates will be a valuable asset to their employers and
well prepared to take on additional responsibility. Often
graduates find the MBA opens up their career prospects either
within their current organisation or as a springboard for a
change in career direction.

Entry Requirements
The time and ability required to complete the course is
considerable. Successful applicants will be ambitious and
have proved themselves managerially and academically. You
will normally have a degree or equivalent professional
qualification and appropriate managerial experience (normally
in excess of two years, at an appropriate level). More mature
applicants who have significant managerial experience will
also be considered without formal degree-level qualifications.
If you do not meet the criteria for advanced entry on to the
MBA, you may be able to gain a place on the programme by
undertaking a foundation programme of study. This fast track
programme may be taken over two terms and leads to the
award of a Certificate in Management Studies. Applicants with
a University DMS may be considered for entry on to the
programme at the start of Term 4.
