The Urban 8outh -und has an annua$ budget of U2: 1 "i$$ion a$$ocated for grants to youth-$ed .rojects in the deve$o.ing (or$d. 3rassroots initiatives and .rojects are e$igib$e for grants u. U2: 1';===. UN-HABITAT reserves the right not to a$$ocate funding as the judges dee" fit and their decisions are fina$ and are not o.en to discussion.

The fund is ad"inistered by a secretariat (ithin UN-HABITAT in Nairobi; Aenya. The 2ecretariat is res.onsib$e for .ro"oting the fund; .rocessing a..$ications; disbursing grants and "onitoring .rojects. Technica$ oversight of the fund is carried out by a 2teering )o""ittee of re.resentatives fro" various divisions in UN-HABITAT. The co""ittee is res.onsib$e for revie(ing the out.uts of the 2ecretariat; revie(ing short$isted beneficiaries and a(ard grants.

Initiatives address a broad range of co""unity needs such as e".$oy"ent; access to affordab$e housing and secure $and tenure; safer cities and .artici.ation in decision"a0ing. 8outh-$ed :eve$o."ent gives young .eo.$e va$uab$e s0i$$s such as .roject "anage"ent and tea"(or0; thus boosting their abi$ity to acDuire jobs and .artici.ate active$y in society.
