Project title:- Freshwater Generator

Project

Project brief :In the past ships used to carry a large amount of freshwater rather than it being generated from seawater. Because of this the cargo carrying capacity is reduced. Today most of the shipping companies have freshwater generators onboard ships. This is a type of evaporator which converts seawater into freshwater. The concept of a freshwater generator is simple, it takes feed water inside it and converts it into distilled water which is used in batteries after this there is a chlorination process in which chlorine is added to the distilled water and also minerals. This water is now fit for human consumption (like drinking , bathing and washing purposes). Takes seawater into the pipes which is known as jacket water. The jacket water is passed from the main engine to cool down the main engine helping to avoid thermal damages. The water inside the jacket water have absorbed the heat of the engine now water is at 60-70 degree of temperature. The water which is at 60-70 degree is transfered to the freshwater generator, where it starts boiling and leaves as steam which is collected on dimester and then condense it in form of liquid by leaving all the salts content on the base of the freshwater generator. Water can not be boiled at 60-70 degree temperature therefore inside the boiler 50% vaccum is created so that the water boils at 60degree temperature. In this manner it deducts the cost of boiling water and safe energy which can be futher used in other equipment.

1. Media Filter Sea water strained for larger particles are passed through the media filter to remove any large suspended matter 2. Micron Filter Pre-filters The water discharged by the low pressure pump through pre-filter which further reduces all suspended solids to an approximate five (5) micron particle size. A 20 micron filter is placed before the five micron. 3. UV Disinfection An Ultraviolet sterilization unit is provided to sterilize the potable water at the point of discharge 4. Chemical Dosing Anti-scalant dosing is provided with a dosing pump and tank with continuous dosing anti-scalant to the inlet water before entering the membrane to protect the membrane from potential inorganic fouling. 5. Reverse Osmosis The filtered seawater then enters the high pressure pump and is discharged into the inlet of the reverse osmosis membrane module at a pressure of 800 psi (55 bars). Through the process of reverse osmosis potable drinking water is produced. The impurities containing largely salts (brine) stay behind and are automatically flushed overboard through the reject regulating valve. 6. Fresh Water Flush This is an additional feature which is specially provided in our systems. During operation the produced water first fills up the flushing tank and once it is full then the water is delivered to the storage tank in the vessel for distribution. Once the system is stopped the sea water in the membrane modules are pushed out by the fresh/ clean water from the flushing tank and the system comes to a complete stop. This system is an unique feature in out system which ensures the life of membranes are long and maintenance cost is low. Flushing tank is utilized as cleaning tank during offline cleaning of the system
