Smoke test
A smo'e test is a simple procedure to determine whether a room is under negative pressure. !he smo'e tube is held near the bottom of the negative pressure room door and approximately 1 inches in front of the door. !he tester generates a small amount of smo'e by gently s,uee2ing the bulb. !he smo'e tube is held parallel to the door, and the smo'e is exhausted from the tube slowly to ensure the velocity of the smo'e from the tube does not overpower the air velocity. "f the room is under negative pressure, the smo'e will travel under the door and into the room. "f the room is not under negative pressure, the smo'e will be blown outward or remain stationary. !his test must be performed with the door closed. !he windows in the room must be closed. "f room air cleaners are being used $including fume hoods or biosafety cabinets%, they should be running. "f the room has an anteroom, the pressure differential should be tested from the corridor to the anteroom and from the anteroom to the room.
