Fashion Focus
Opening this spring, two major exhibitions are set to get the V&As Year of Fashion underway in sensational style. The Glamour of Italian Fashion 19452014 and Wedding Dresses 17752014 will be complemented by an exciting programme of fashion-themed talks and events.

Shakespeare Festival
Celebrate the 450th anniversary of Shakespeares birth at the V&A between 7 April and 4 May. Festival highlights include live performances, screenings, talks, workshops and fun Easter activities for families.

Most V&A events, workshops and courses are temporarily moving from the Sackler Centre to a new venue near the Theatre & Performance galleries. The move helps accommodate the next phase of our FuturePlan redevelopment project, allowing us to create beautiful and contemporary new Museum settings.

JAMEEL PRIZE 3 11 December 2013 21 April 2014 The Porter Gallery The Jameel Prize is an international art prize for contemporary artists and designers inspired by Islamic traditions of art, craft and design. Launched in 2009 and held every two years, the prize is in its third edition and continues to attract nominations from an ever-longer list of countries around the world. This exhibition showcases the thriving interaction between contemporary practice and a great historical heritage. See works by the ten shortlisted artists and designers, ranging from Arabic typography and calligraphy to fashion inspired by the Hagia Soa in Istanbul, and from social design and video installation to delicate miniature drawings.

WILLIAM KENT: DESIGNING GEORGIAN BRITAIN 22 March 13 July 2014 Experience the life and work of William Kent, the most prominent architect and designer of early Georgian Britain. Explore how Kents artistic inventiveness set the style at a time when Britain dened itself as a new nation and developed a design aesthetic for the period. Bringing together over 200 examples of William Kents work over three decades (1719-48), the exhibition includes architectural drawings for prominent buildings such as Horse Guards at Whitehall, spectacular gilt furniture from Chiswick House and landscape designs for Holkham Hall. Discover the versatility of the Kentian style and Kents lasting impact as a leading British tastemaker in this remarkable exhibition.

THE GLAMOUR OF ITALIAN FASHION 19452014 5 April 27 July 2014 Sponsored by Bulgari This spectacular exhibition takes a comprehensive look at Italian fashion from the end of the Second World War to the present day. Examples of both womens and menswear highlight the exceptional quality of techniques, materials and expertise for which Italy has become renowned. M. F. HUSAIN: MASTER OF MODERN INDIAN PAINTING 28 May 27 July 2014 This exhibition showcases the nal nine paintings by M. F. Husain, one of the most celebrated and internationally recognised Indian artists of the 20th century. Indian Civilization comprises a series of monumental triptych paintings which represent Husains vision of the richness of Indian culture and history. Capturing Indias vibrant cities, colourful Hindu festivals, iconic gures and historic events, these unique paintings are on view to the public for the rst time.

GIAMBATTISTA VALLI: ITALIAN HAUTE COUTURE Friday 4 April, 19.00 20.45 The iconic Italian designer Giambattista Valli launched his eponymous label in 2005 after having held senior creative positions at Fendi, Krizia and Ungaro. His dresses have been worn by such glamorous women as Penelope Cruz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Biel, Natalie Portman and Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan. Join Giambattista Valli in conversation with fashion writer Gianluca Longo.

THE AGE OF VERONESE: ART AND INTERIORS 4 weeks, Thursdays, 1 22 May, 10.30 13.00 1 & 8 May at the National Gallery 15 & 22 May at the V&A One of the greatest Venetian painters of the late Renaissance, Veronese is renowned for his exceptional use of colour and mastery of illusionism. MADE IN ITALY: RE-USE OF FASHION HERITAGE AND NEW DIGITAL PERSPECTIVES Wednesday 9 April, 10.30 17.30 This one day international conference explores the fascinating intersection of fashion and the digital world. The conference will examine digital fashion activities through the prism of Italys fashion houses, museums and archives. The programme will include talks by representatives from Italian fashion houses such as Valentino and Missoni as well as contributions from noted fashion historians.

INTRODUCING EILEEN GRAY Saturday 7 June, 14.00 17.00 Explore the work and legacy of Eileen Gray, one of the most important furniture designers and architects of the early 20th century. Her distinctive design style, an opulent and luxuriant take on geometric forms and industrial materials, inspired both Modernism and Art Deco. Her lacquer screens, the Bibendum chair and the E-1027 house are widely regarded as icons of the International Style.

ART CARDS SOFT CIRCUITS: INTERACTIVE ACCESSORIES Friday 9 May, 10.30 17.00 Learn how to create beautiful, professional Saturday 3 May, 10.30 17.00 cards inspired by patterns and motifs in the Create your own light-up purse or small bag in V&A collections, using Photoshop to transform this introductory workshop.
