Pattern Notes
To change colors: With first color, insert
hook in last stitch, yarn over, and pull
a loop through. With 2 loops on hook,
yarn over with the next color and pull
through both loops. Do not fasten off,
but leave the previous color at the
right-side edge.
When squares of the opposite color
appear on any given row, stitches
corresponding to those squares are
skipped. This is accomplished by
chaining across the given number
of stitches without working them.
To prevent puckering or drawing in
of the work, chain 1 more than the
number of consecutive stitches to
be skipped.
To skip 1 stitch..ch 2
To skip 2 stitches..ch 3
To skip 3 stitches..ch 4
Skipping certain stitches leaves them
free to be worked with the opposite
color on the next right-side row. A
double crochet stitch is used to reach
down from the current row to the
previous row of the same color (see
Illustration). Within a mosaic pattern,
all double crochets are worked in
front of the chain spaces into the next
stitch 3 rows below. Double crochets
are used only on right-side rows.
Wrong-side rows will consist only of
single crochets and chains.
Colored row: Any row of chart that
begins and ends with colored
square.
