Peerwise is a learning tool that y formulation your o!n %uestions and ans!ers and y ans!ering and evaluating your $eers6 %uestions and ans!ers hel$s you understand the su 7ect area. Partici$ation in this is voluntary ut y $artici$ating y actively !riting %uestions and ans!ering %uestions you can gain e,tra mar#s and it hel$s !ith your revision. #1 will 2e added to %our coursewor, mar, if you actively $artici$ate in $eer!ise y' +formulatin$ at least " 'uestions and answers of your o!n (by 2 set deadlines and on different lectures) A)3 4 answerin$ and evaluatin$ at least 5! 'uestions of your $eers. (one week after the end of term) 1ote' you have to !rite a %uestion first efore you can ans!er %uestions
NB: students had a supervised practise session on the use of Peerwise in a computer lab in Ty Dewi ant

During the module students !ere reminded several times a out the $ur$ose of Peer!ise and ho! to !rite %uestions and ans!ers' When writin$ the 'uestion and answer: 0. Ma#e sure the %uestion is not am iguous. If you have set an am iguous %uestion, you soon notice it !hen your $eers go for the !rong ans!er. -nd you $ro a ly get loads of comments on it too. 5/ 8ive a clear e&planation of !hy the correct ans!er is correct &you can include lin#s to !here you have found information regarding this*. So don6t 7ust say !hat the ans!er is !ithout e,$laining it. 9. -lso give an e,$lanation !hy the other ans!ers are not correct. :. Phrasing of your ans!ers is very im$ortant, and $oor $hrasing results in not getting the $oints(loosing $oints for e.g. the e,am essays. By $ractising $hrasing your %uestions ; ans!ers $ro$erly in $eer!ise, you are li#ely to im$rove your a ility to !rite e,am essays and increase your mar#s.

7ualit% of 'uestions:
Some e,cellent %uestions and ans!ers and e,$lanations !ere $hrased. Some %uestions !ere $oorly $hrased, sometimes resulting in am iguity, and often lac#ed an e,$lanation. ?alf the students set 0 or < additional %uestions . - third of the students ans!ered over 9= %uestions . @ne student ans!ered all %uestions.
Reminders:
During the course of the module, students received several reminders a out the $ur$ose of Peer!Wise and instructions ho! to set $hrase %uestions and ans!ers. >his did im$rove the %uality of the %uestions and ans!ers.
8onclusions:
Students are tem$ted to use PeerWise !hen given a re!ard. Students re%uire clear instructions a out the $ur$ose of PeerWise and the im$ortance of $hrasing %uestions and ans!ers.
6ollow up:
>he same grou$ of students has elected to use PeerWise again for a S$ring module and have received stricter instructionsA adherence to these is re%uired to %ualify for the e,tra mar#s. >he deadline for ans!ering the %uestions has een set to the end of the !ee# efore the e,amination $eriod start, to encourage the students to use it for their revision. >he %uality of the %uestions and ans!ered has increased enormously and many %uestions(ans!ers are of e&am 'ualit%9
