EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

NR, Intan, and Ibu Caf are the three food court in UiTM Segamat. There are very suitable for student UiTM Segamat. NR food court and Ibu caf established since January 2011 while Intan food court established 26 jun 2012. Before intan food court will open, our students have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner time at NR food court or Ibu Caf. NR food court is the best place to dine because the environment and food at the place very good. So, that why many of our student comes to eat at NR food court compare to Ibu Caf. Furthermore, NR food court also provides more facilities compare to Ibu Caf. For example, facilities NR food court provide to our student is free Wi-Fi service, a place that with an air-conditioner and there is large enough space to students. After that, NR food court and ibu Caf have a competitor that it is Intan food court. Intan food court has a lot of stalls that can give student many choice and variety food to eat.

1.0: INTRODUCTION

Intan food court, NR food court and Ibu Caf are the three most common places where student dine. Since students are always on the move, the need to eat is very important for every student. Not only as a place to eat, but also a place to interact and socialize. That is why these three places play an important role here in UiTM Segamat. As an owner, there are several guidelines where if the owner wants to open a caf or a food court that they must obey if they want to attract student to eat at their place. Price, accommodation, and environment are the few aspects that an owner needs to consider if they want to gain many customers.

Scope of study It will indicate the direction of the report and give a preview of the written

report. Our research will be on 50 random diploma students in UiTM Segamat, any courses and any part. With this research we will know which stall is the most preferable by students. Those students will be given questionnaire on the topic. In order to be more specific and more detail we will use secondary data as our data collection method. The data will be more accurate and reliable since we use primary and secondary data. This study will be approximately take us about three weeks.

Purpose of study As we all know students are very sensitive about food. A slight mistake can

give a lot of troubles to the owners. There are a lot of issues about food stall here in UiTM Segamat. The price, service and cleanliness of the stall are very important for student. Therefore, the purpose of this report and study is to find which place is the most best and popular among students in UiTM Segamat.

Methodology The methodology from this report based on primary and secondary data. The

questionnaires will be given to 50 students in UiTM Segamat. The questionnaires will consist of the background information of the respondents and their opinion about hold of the environment food court in UiTM Segamat.

Significance of the report This report will give benefits to students. All of the student can identify whole

of the environment of this three food court in UiTM Segamat is the best to eat and hangout.

Limitation In order to complete the whole of the report, we had through a few of

obstacles such as we do not have enough time and also limited resources. Based on the finding and discussion, we have positive opinion from student about food court in UiTM Segamat.

2.0: PROBLEMS

From our study and observation there are some problems that we find and there are: 2.1) Price The food serve is quite expensive and not suitable and affordable to students. Student cannot spend so much money to food only but they also have to spend on their study like buying books, stationeries, graph paper, A4 paper and most important is test pad. For example like Ibu Caf the price of their food serving is quite expensive. Like their Nasi Campur (nasi putih + sayur khailan + chicken curry + telur dadar ) is RM 6.00. This is just for a lunch set only.

2.2) Environment When is come to the place that we want to eat we exactly will find the best environment because that can make our appetite to eat does not lose. The best environment also can attract regular customers. Students also will always come to the place that have best environment to do assignment and discussion. For example, like we can see that at NR food court always is students choice to hanging, doing assignment, discussion and others.

2.3) Services Service is the most important thing to attract our student as the customer come to eat at this place. If the stalls also provide the best services, customer always remembered the stall and the services. Customer also spread the information about the stall to our family members and friends so that people will know about that stall. For example, if Intan food court provided good service to female student, they also can tell to male student about services provided at Intan food court.

2.4) Hygiene Hygiene is a part of iman. All religion makes the cleanliness as the base of their life. If the food courts always keep their stall in clean, the student will choose the stall as the place to eat. Besides that, if they always take care about the hygiene of the stall, flies will not be found in their stall and we can prevent from the diseases like Malaria fever, food poisoning so on. For example, like the others choice of the students that not to take care so much about their stall hygiene and there a lots flies flying seen on their dish and tables. The flies also lessen the customer appetite to eat at this place.

2.5) Small and not comfortable As we know that there are 6000 of student taking their diploma here. So, the places of that providing food must be large enough to packs the student and the staff in UiTM Segamat. Like at the peak time, lunch hour, student and staff will eat at the food court. If the food court is small, how people can eat in comforts? Furthermore, people also need to wait for the empty tables to eat. Then, people will waste their time for wait to get a seat.

Shahrul : Hi ,yes.

Aiman : I want to ask you a few question about food court in UiTM Segamat. Which one of the food court in this campus is the best place to eat?

Shahrul : In my opinions, the best food court in this campus is NR food court.

Aiman : Why did you choose NR food court as the best food court in this campus?

Shahrul : I choose that because NR have good facilities ,their foods are delicious and affordable for the student and their services is better than other food courts in this campus.

3.2) Secondary data Internet As the secondary data, we used the internet to find the data. We try to find some places such as restaurants that could be compare with food courts here that maybe can help to improve the services here. We choose fast food restaurant because the food and service their providing is really great like McDonalds and KFC restaurants.

Based on the diagram above from our 50 respondents, there are 23 male students and 27 female students. Also from the diagram above we can see that the highest respondent is come from part 3 and follow by part 1 and so on. Diagram also shown that female respondent is higher than male students because the total of students in UiTM Segamat was monopoly by female students.

The diagram above shows the frequency of student choice on the food court or caf in UiTM Segamat. So, the result shows student prefers to eat at NR Food courts. From 50 respondents, 20 respondents choose NR Food courts, 18 choose Intan Food courts, 14 choose Ibu Caf and 8 respondents were others. Based on our primary data, there is some factors that why would respondents choose NR Food courts. Firstly, because the food and dish serve is delicious. Secondly, the price of the foods is affordable. For example the price of Nasi Campur (nasi putih + ayam gulai + sayur khailan + telur dadar) is only RM 4.00. They also provide many varieties of foods and dishes that attract people to come. Furthermore, students choose NR Food courts because the facilities provide and the environment. Here, at the NR Food courts they provide television with Astros, air-conditioner and also Wi-Fi services that the other place not provide. There also place in the good environment that students easily can go to pray because NR Food courts near with Masjid As-Syakirin and this place also have an environment that can make student feel peace and calm.

4.2) Interview Based on interview we had done, Now we knows that NR food court has been the most favourite food court in UiTM Segamat. Students choose NR food court as their place to having their meals because of a few reasons which are the facilities, the food, and the services served by NR food court. The first reason is why student choose NR is the facilities provides at NR. There are many facilities provides at NR such as free Wi-Fi services, it has two sides (indoor and outdoor) and they also have air conditioner in indoor sides. Furthermore, students choose NR food court because their food is more delicious than other food courts. Their food court also charge cheaper price of the food if compared with other food courts. Other than that, their service at NR is the best. The cashier is friendly with other customer and their workers immediately neat the plate after students eat. 4.3) Internet As the secondary data, we are using the internet to find the information. Based on the data that we find in the internet, we can compare with that food courts here with the fast food restaurants like McDonald and KFC have provide to attract the customer also make all the people do always come to their restaurants. McDonald providing the good service and have the facilities that can attract the customers like free Wi-Fi service, washrooms, re-filling the drink without a charge and more also KFC restaurants still be the people choice because the price is affordable with the food and service that can satisfy the customers. We also can see that both of this restaurants giving alike same services. For example, like the menu special set for lunch and dinner. They give the set with the lowest price from a time to time like at from 6p.m to 9p.m for a set of dinner customer can get the low price from the usual hours. They decrease the price at the certain hours. KFC and McDonalds is giving the high speed free service of Wi-Fi. Therefore, what we can conclude here, when the services provide is good and comfort people will choose the place.

5.0: CONCLUSIONS

Since the beginning of time food has always been the most important thing for us. In order to survive, gain energy, growth and so many much more. As time move on, we humans have created a more sophisticated food. Back in those days, there would be no spaghetti, nasi lemak or chicken chop. There are no special ways of cooking either. Like now days we can grill, steam, fry and much more. As the economic grow larger and more efficient, we humans would demand more. So does our desire to eat. Of course we dont want to stick with only our traditional food, although they are delicious, but our tongue also would demand something new. New food such as the western cuisine and the Middle East. Since the world war we have share many things, and food is one of it. Food can sometimes be a national symbol to some country. For example, if we say pizza we would automatically think of Italy. Food can be shared to other nation as a symbol of friendship between the nations. This shows that even a simple thing like food can bring us somewhere great if only we use it properly. Same as if we want to ensure that our people will be productive, we must serve them with healthy food, now days people are getting all sort of disease because of they dont really care about their food. All they want is food that is prepared fast, hot and delicious. This is when the fast food industry becomes a part of our life. It is like we cannot live without them. McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), Subway and more fast food franchises. Although this might look simple, but we must be serious and before this matter gets worst. If students want to achieve success they must also think of this matter. This is because food consumption can be very important for us. Breakfasts, lunch, dinner, and supper. All this is very important for a student. Student should also reduce the intake of oily food, for even a student have the tendency to have heart attack and other related diseases. The owner of each shop should also serve healthy food for student to ensure there are getting their nutritions.

6.0: RECOMMENDATIONS

Technological advancement has help in our food industry a lot these days. For example, vending machine, ice cream machine and others. For sure there are hidden charges for their services and special ability to us. If the management is effective and there is no such thing as lying from the cashier or any other irresponsible person. This is why the management should play they role and monitor if they are any fraud. We as student deserve to know how the owner charges us for the food. Sometimes a cashier can trick a student. Moreover if the student is a freshman, they still dont know how the system works which makes them vulnerable to trickery. For example, there was once a student complained about the price of eating here at UiTM Segamat is too high. A simple lunch turned into a pain in the neck when he was charged 8 ringgits of a simple dish of chicken, rice and ice tea. As this matter gets to the hand of the rector, this problem of too high in price should be overcome, yet nothing has change until now. So these are few recommendations to improve the food system here in Segamat.

6.1) Price The UiTM management should put a ceiling price to the food served here. For example, two dishes and a cup of water shouldnt cost more than 5 ringgit. This will ensure that there would be no excessive wastage on student expenditure. We student can track our expenditure this way. Since a student normally spend 10 ringgits a day, 5 ringgits for a meal would be enough, or maybe even less than 5 ringgits. There should also be a proper pricing. For example, fish and chicken should be set on a different price so we student can differentiate the price and choose our dishes more accurate according to our budget. There should also be a menu that not only shows the type of dishes, but also each and every price for the dishes. The price should be very detail so that there wont be any hidden charges.

6.2) Environment Our surrounding is very important for us if we want to enjoy our meal properly. Our comfortableness is vital so that we can consume our food in peace. NR food court is a very good example for having the best environment, there is air conditioner, television, and the view is just outstanding. Other places here should make example of NR food court for having such magnificent environment. Also Intan food court, that has just been opened, also has a very good environment. Since the food court is close to the girls hostel, it would be easy for the female student to get their food. They dont have to walk very far just to eat at NR food court. To be honest Intan food court has a better environment that NR, but that food court is still new. Intan is on its way to improve, so it is still a bit messy and unsystematic. But in the future I believe that intan food court would be a very nice place to dine and to socialize for students.

6.3) Hygiene As we all know there are a lot of diseases in this world. Diseases from food are one of the biggest contributors in the world. This is why the preparation of the food should be clean and bacteria free. Like every good restaurant there should be a way or a guideline when preparing a dish. It should be done step by step to ensure that, that food is cooked properly. For example when cooking vegetables, one should first clean it first with clean water. If the cooker skips the process, it could bring harm to students. Who knows they might be insect in the vegetables. The common illness by student is of course diarrhoea and food poisoning. This kind of thing usually affects the whole system, because everyone is getting their food mainly in the same place. So if an infection broke out, it will affect every single person who ate at that place. This kind of thing if not taken seriously, it could become worst and maybe can lead to death if it is too serious. The health inspector should come often to inspect the cleanliness of the food premises so that it safe for students to dine there without any worries.

6.4) e-Makan This is a system where students will give feedback to the management about the quality of the food served here. Not only the food, but also the price, service and others. The management will get the feedback from students and overcome any problem face by students. Every concerned student would take this as a very good advantage for them to express their dissatisfaction. The survey should include all the food premises here so that every single stall can be corrected or improvise. But as we all know student will keen on complaining about the price. So the management should be fair not just to students but also to the owners. They would also want to gain some profit. Every food stall owner would want to gain profit from their businesses. I believe with e-Makan, it can help student and also the management to correct any problems related to the food being served here.

6.5) Paying system Every restaurant or food premises should have their own system of paying. Take example of McDonalds. They have been serving customer of a very long time and has gain customer trust. This is because customer doesnt have to queue very long to order their food. Moreover they will get their food on the spot. If delayed it would probably only take about five minutes for our order to be done. What Im trying to say is, the other food premises here should do the same to their system. A better way of paying and queuing would be sufficed, because students dont like to wait for so long just to get their food. Students also have many things to do, like attending class or doing their assignment. Take others stall for example, it would take students like forever jus to queue to get to their food. In addition if they want to get their lunch, it would probably be it the noon. Of course it would hot and that time. Students would become very uncomfortable with the situation there. So to overcome this over queuing problem, there should be more than just one cashier so that the paying process can be done more efficiently. This would not only save time but also eases the stall to work.
