This is 6 X 6. Join the two thumbs together.

Fingers touching and any of the fingers below those two fingers represent 10 each. In this case the two thumbs are touching giving us 20. The are 4 fingers above the thumb on the left hand and 4 fingers above the thumb (finger touching each other) on the right hand. We multiply the fingers on the left with those on the right : 4 X 4 = 16.

The next step is to add the first 20 and the 16 giving us 36.
6 X 6 = 36.

This is 6 X 7. The thumb on the left hand representing 6 and the index finger on the right hand represents 7. The fingers touching each other and the fingers below them amount to 30. (10 for each finger touching and below those touching fingers) The remaining fingers are 4 on the left hand and 3 on the right hand. 4 X 3 = 12. The next step is to add the 30 to 12 to give 42. 6 X 7 = 42

This is 6 X 8. The fingers touching each other and those below the two fingers = 40. (Each finger represents 10 ) The remaining fingers on the left hand are 4 and on the right are 2. 4 X 2 = 8.

The next step is to add 40 to 8 to give 48.

6 X 8 = 48

This is 6 X 9. The fingers touching and below these two fingers = 50.

The remaining fingers are multiplied: 4 X 1 = 4

The next step: 50 + 4 = 54 6 X 9 = 54

This is 7 X 6. See figure one for the numbering. The two fingers touching each other and the finger below them = 30. The remaining fingers are multiplied with each other: 3 X 4 = 12. The next step is to add 30 to 12 giving 42. 7 X 6 = 42

This is 7 X 7. The two pointers touching each other and the two fingers below the fingers touching add up to 40. The remaining fingers are 3 on the left hand and 3 on the right hand. 3 X 3 = 9. The next step is to add the 40 to 9 to get 49. 7 X 7 = 49.

This is 7 X 8. The fingers touching each other and the fingers below those two fingers amount to 50. The remaining fingers 3 on the left hand and 2 on the right. 3X2=6
The next step is to add the 50 to 6 to give us 56. 7 X 8 = 56.

This is 7 X 9. The fingers touching and below them amount to 60. The remaining fingers multiplied by each other is: 3 X 1 = 3. Adding the two results: 60 + 3 = 63. 7 X 9 = 63.

This represents 8 X 6 = 48

This is 8 X 7 50 + (2 X 3 ) = 56.

This is 8 X 8 = 64

This is 8 X 9 = 72

This is 9 X 6 50 + ( 1 X 4 ) = 54

This is 9 X 7 = 63

This is 9 X 8 = 72

9 X 9 = 81

9 Times table. The following illustrations represent another method for doing the nine times table. This method need not be learnt as the first method already covers the 9 times table.

For those of you who want to learn this method, place the hands with the back of the hands facing you. The numbering for this method goes from the left little finger to the right little finger: 1 to 10.
The fingers ( see diagram) to the left of the bent finger is to be counted as 10 each while the fingers to the right of the bent finger is to be counted as one each. The illustrations attached will make the explanation above clear.

1X9 Bend the finger representing 1 which is the left small finger. 1X9=9

For 2 X 9 bend the ring finger on the left hand which represents 2. The finger to the left of the bent finger represents 1 X 10 = 10 The fingers to the right of the bent fingers represent 8 X 1 = 8 10 + 8 = 18. 2 X 9 = 18

For 3 X 9 bend the middle finger on the left hand. The 2 fingers on the left of the bent finger = 20 and the fingers on the right of the bent finger = 7. 3 X 9 = 27.

This is 4 X 9 = 36

Here the fifth finger is bent and is therefore 5 X 9. 5 X 9 = 45.

This is 6 X 9 = 54

Here the 7th finger is bent giving us 7 X 9 = 63

This is 8 X 9 = 72

This is 9 X 9 giving us 81
