Language Arts 26 February 2014 Orthodontics

A famous childrens book author Dr. Seuss once said You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose (Geisel 2). This made me think that if I have time to choose my future still; I should pick something that makes me happy. I realized I have always wanted to be an orthodontist and be able to literally make the world smile. I wish to become an orthodontist to be able to live life to my fullest potential and be able to help others along the way. My dad would always tell me, Do what makes you happy in life, so when I had to pick a career, I wanted to be able to help people, and also be very well set for the future. That is why I decided to be an orthodontist. An average salary in the United States is roughly $187,200per year, which is about two hundred dollars an hour (careerinfonet.org), this would be very good for helping me have a nice life. A very basic day in the life of an orthodontist includes things like adding and repairing brace brackets, fixing broken wires, and a lot of walking and occasionally a little paper work (myfuture.com). I know you must have some endurance to stand for so long and also patience for when they get an annoying kid in the office, but still I think this would be a great job for me, I have always had a liking for medical practices. All though there may be long hours there is usually other people there to help avoid isolation. Becoming an orthodontist is no easy task, so I had to start looking at schools that would be good for me. The school I am looking at is

Clark 2 the university of Missouri Kansas city, its located fifteen minutes from downtown K.C (mymajors.com). I guess in the end I want to be able to help lots of people through my line of work, and by helping them I can take a little pride knowing I helped someone. I was never afraid of anything in the world except the dentist Taylor Caldwell once said. Even though not everyone likes the dentist or an orthodontist that does not change about what I want to do in my life. Orthodontists must go through a lot of training to be fully licensed (never relicensed) (myfuture.com), it does not just happen overnight. So when I was looking for schools that I wanted to go to I said, what schools can I find that have a good health program, are close to home, and relatively not too expensive. Those ideas are what brought me to the University of Missouri Kansas City or UMKC for short. [UMKC] is great because even though it is in Missouri I can still get in state bonuses (my majors). This is good because tuition is almost three times as much for someone out of state. [UMKC] also offers many degrees from just a certificate to a doctoral degree. The tuition is roughly 9,029 dollars a year and room and board is about 10,201.My education will take two to four years to complete (after I take the written and practical exams) (Kansas career pipeline). so it is obvious I want a school with a lot to offer and I think I have found it There is a lot of coursework and activities that can be very helpful in the health professions. Some of the more common courses you are recommended to take are biology, genetics, and even algebra2 (Kansas career pipeline). Obviously it is going to take a lot of work

Clark 3 to be able to become an orthodontist, and I am heading in the right direction. I am certified in CPR and I have had some medical training. I am also starting to look at some science clubs to help pursue my career (my majors). Dr. Patricia Panucci once said it only takes a second to smile (brainy quotes). And that is good since my future career is all about teeth. I have learned that being an orthodontist is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication. I was able to find some good schools that will help me achieved the most in my life. The Dalai Lama said once The purpose of our lives is to be happy. I think he is absolutely right. If I am going to spend many years of my life training for my future job it should be something that will make me happy day in and day out.
