and the

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

WELCOME FR. JEFF STONEBERG

LENTEN REGULATIONS
1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. 2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. 3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. 4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful. 5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a performance of works of charity and mercy.

We will welcome Father Jeff Stoneberg as the 8th pastor of Christ the King Parish this June. Fr. Jeff will celebrate his first Masses at Christ the King on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, June 21-22, 2014.

SAVE THE DATES!!

Calling all High School Teens: We have another busy summer planned! Some of our events:
DISCOVER Retreat-

Reflecting on Gods Word LIFE FROM DEATH Lent is about Easter, and Easter is about life after death. As we draw closer to Easter, the Sunday readings become more and more explicit about this. In a rather dry, matter-of-fact way, today's reading from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans teaches that our "mortal bodies" will be raised to life. But in a far more gripping way, the Lord shouts at us through the prophet Ezekiel, "O my people, I will open your graves . . . I will put my spirit in you . . . I have promised, and I will do it." When Jesus saw the people weeping over the death of Lazarus, he was troubled in spirit and moved by the deepest emotions. Approaching the tomb, Jesus himself began to weep. He loved Lazarus. In fact, Jesus loved Lazarus so much that he snatched him out of his tomb, back to life. That's how God loves us.

St. Joseph Table Thank You

The St. Joseph Table held at Christ the King on March 16 was a huge success. The food was plentiful, the raffles were fun, and the fellowship was inspiring. A good time was had by all and we raised $3,000 to donate to Washington Helps Its People and the Sister of Oika. I would like to thank all of our guests for their generous donations, all of the volunteers for their tireless work, and Fr. Peter and the CTK staff for supporting this worthwhile event. A special thanks goes to the committee members who know their jobs so well that chairing this event is a pleasure. We hope to see you at the St. Joseph Table in 2015!

Water for Life

A Lenten Service Project Christ the King Parish
How has water consumption changed? Every time we turn on the faucet, we have access to fresh, clean water, but did you know many of our products we use take an excessive amount of water to produce? For instance, for every liter of water we drink, it takes three liters to make it. We need 8,137 gallons of water to produce about 5 pounds of beef, or 5,812 gallons of water to make one pair of jeans. Thats a lot of water just to make stuff we want. And what about those water bottles? Check this YouTube video out on the Story of Bottled Water: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se12y9hSOM0 Change your habits, Save a life!

Scrutinies
On the third Sunday of Lent we celebrated the First Scrutiny; The Woman at the Well. This Gospel asks us to examine our lives with the question: What do we need forgiveness for? Christ can see right through us to our very inner being. He knows what we need to ask forgiveness for. We need to name it and vocally ask for repentance. The second Sunday of lent we celebrated the Second Scrutiny; The man born blind. This scrutinizes the communities that we serve. Do we use justice with each person that we meet? Can we do more? The third Sunday of lent we celebrate the Third Scrutiny; The raising of Lazarus. That faith in Jesus Christ gives us eternal life. Eternal life is granted by turning away from sin and being faithful to the Gospel. We look forward to celebrating the Easter Sacraments with our catechumens!

GREAT TIME AT CCWS LUNCHEON TO HONOR ST. PATRICK

What a good time was had at the Parish Luncheon to Honor St. Patrick! We would like to thank everyone who attended and an especially big thank you to all who helped us: Pat Beifuss, Dick Clish, Don Knox, Bob LeBeau, Virginia Lesnik, Eileen Mears, Ed Schumann and CCW Board members. We are grateful to Fr. John Guiney who led a wonderful prayer to start the festivities. Please continue to keep Fr. Guineys health in prayer. We offer a special thank you to Clare Deardorff who played fantastic Irish music on the piano and Donna Raymond who lead a very lively Irish sing-a-long. Finance council, administration commission & staff working together for the future Our mid year report last month showed the parishioners and staff need to continue in keeping up on our bills, mortgage, due to the added expense of snow removal, over 20,000. Please consider a generous Easter Offering to help us get back on track. Christ the King parishioners were extremely generous last Christmas and your support this Easter would help us pay our upcoming bills and mortgage. As an FYI we are hard at work on budget preparation. The diocese assists us in these preparations. When a pastor leaves or new one comes there is a diocesan audit. The diocese reports our procedures are up to date and that we are on target, as we prepare for the new pastor. As always, we are leaving no stone un-turned in looking for continued efficiency. Thank you for your generosity in second diocesan collections and bishops ministry appeal. May God reward you for your generosity and may we all do our part . Every dollar counts. God bless, CTK Finance Council
