The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

LENTEN REGULATIONS
1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. 2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. 3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. 4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful. 5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a performance of works of charity and mercy.
We will welcome Father Jeff Stoneberg as the 8th pastor of Christ the King Parish this June. Fr. Jeff will celebrate his first Masses at Christ the King on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, June 21-22, 2014.

Reflecting on Gods Word LIFE FROM DEATH Lent is about Easter, and Easter is about life after death. As we draw closer to Easter, the Sunday readings become more and more explicit about this. In a rather dry, matter-of-fact way, today's reading from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans teaches that our "mortal bodies" will be raised to life. But in a far more gripping way, the Lord shouts at us through the prophet Ezekiel, "O my people, I will open your graves . . . I will put my spirit in you . . . I have promised, and I will do it." When Jesus saw the people weeping over the death of Lazarus, he was troubled in spirit and moved by the deepest emotions. Approaching the tomb, Jesus himself began to weep. He loved Lazarus. In fact, Jesus loved Lazarus so much that he snatched him out of his tomb, back to life. That's how God loves us.

Scrutinies
On the third Sunday of Lent we celebrated the First Scrutiny; The Woman at the Well. This Gospel asks us to examine our lives with the question: What do we need forgiveness for? Christ can see right through us to our very inner being. He knows what we need to ask forgiveness for. We need to name it and vocally ask for repentance. The second Sunday of lent we celebrated the Second Scrutiny; The man born blind. This scrutinizes the communities that we serve. Do we use justice with each person that we meet? Can we do more? The third Sunday of lent we celebrate the Third Scrutiny; The raising of Lazarus. That faith in Jesus Christ gives us eternal life. Eternal life is granted by turning away from sin and being faithful to the Gospel. We look forward to celebrating the Easter Sacraments with our catechumens!

Finance council, administration commission & staff working together for the future Our mid year report last month showed the parishioners and staff need to continue in keeping up on our bills, mortgage, due to the added expense of snow removal, over 20,000. Please consider a generous Easter Offering to help us get back on track. Christ the King parishioners were extremely generous last Christmas and your support this Easter would help us pay our upcoming bills and mortgage. As an FYI we are hard at work on budget preparation. The diocese assists us in these preparations. When a pastor leaves or new one comes there is a diocesan audit. The diocese reports our procedures are up to date and that we are on target, as we prepare for the new pastor. As always, we are leaving no stone un-turned in looking for continued efficiency. Thank you for your generosity in second diocesan collections and bishops ministry appeal. May God reward you for your generosity and may we all do our part . Every dollar counts. God bless, CTK Finance Council
