In Nursery Class this week we began to make things for Easter time!

We each took a great deal of time using cotton wool balls to make our very own Easter chick and we all concentrated so hard to ensure that we put the eyes, beak and feet in the right places! Press here for more.

The children in Reception Class have been getting out and about, taking advantage of the warmer weather this week. They've enjoyed playing some new games in the playground such as hockey and Boules - which became a game of our own called 'Tens Boules' supporting our maths learning about multiples of ten. Lots of children had fun experimenting and investigating with water play, and decided it would be a great idea to set up a car wash for the cars and bikes. Some staff even wheeled their bikes into the playground to take advantage of the excellent service! On Wednesday we took the parachute down to Rosemary Gardens (in onesies and pyjamas!) and really tried our best at working together to make the parachute do some cool things...can you spot us, we're hiding! We also took some time to look at the beautiful nature all around us looking for worms, daffodils and of course, climbing. Press here for more.

In Year 1 we have started our character and script writing this week with some fantastic material coming through. The children had to create an extra character to add to the story of Cinderella after we watched Disney's 'Work Song' and read two different versions of the same story. They needed to think of a way in which the character helped Cinderella in her time of need. We then wrote a short conversation (still a work in progress) between the two characters using correct punctuation. On Wednesday afternoon we worked in pairs using some of our shadow puppets to create a small shadow theatre in the library. We had three scenes, a spooky forest, an enchanted wood and a grand castle. The stories had to have a beginning, middle and end. One funny ending was 'and they argued happily together forever'. Some of the stories were romantic comedies and some good old horrors but all were very, very enjoyable. Press here for more.

In Year 2/3 we've been looking at some Spanish artists. This helped to inspire our own artwork. First we looked at Pablo Picasso's one-line animal drawings. We thought of different animals and tried to represent these using Picasso's method. We then looked at the work of Jean Miro who used a method called automatic drawing. To do this we closed our eyes and let the pen guide us across the page. We made swirling lines and zigzag lines. We then opened our eyes and looked at what we'd created. Using only three carefully selected colours we filled in our favourite parts of the picture. They looked great. We'll be looking at some more artwork from these artists soon. Press here.

So in the final week of term we wanted to continue our focus for the Early Years and for KS1 and 2 and these children did us proud with their efforts this week. Well done to you! Keep it up after Easter! The Artist of the Week went to Matilda in Year 2 for her abstract piece which we thing looks amazing such though has gone into this work and the end result is very effective. The Musician of the Week is for Rafi in Reception Class. His listening skills are excellent and he always has an interesting answer to a question or an opinion about a piece of music. He has particularly enjoyed learning about musicals, Walt Disney and the Sherman brothers. His sense of timing and rhythm is really coming along and he is developing his singing voice and confidence with performing! Press here for more.

What a Wonderful Onesie Wednesday!

Thank you to everyone who took part in Onesie Wednesday that helped raise 190 for the National Autistic Society. Thank you also to Magalie from the Early Years Centre for coming in and talking to the children in assembly about autistic awareness and sharing a clip of her daughter singing a beautiful Italian opera. Our Easter Bonnet Parade

Today the children (and parents!) put lots of effort into creating some amazing Easter bonnets to celebrate the end of term leading into the Easter holidays. There was a wonderful collection of bonnets on show and the children were also treated to David reading a Michael Rosen poem as they entered celebration assembly. The children cant wait for the Easter Egg hunt later today. Press here for more.

Easter Egg Hunt

This afternoon we hosted our annual Easter egg hunt at Rosemary Gardens. Some of our Parents' Network Ents Committee parents hid our special tickets around the gardens in anticipation of the children's arrival an hour later. When the children came, they were very excited to see the yellow ribbons fluttering in the breeze knowing that a ticket must be near and once all the children assembled in the gardens, off they went. Naturally it didn't take the children long to find their tickets and they were thrilled to receive a magnificent bumper pack of chocolate coins, eggs, bunnies and chicks. You can tell by the photos that they had a wonderful time. I'd like to thank the staff for helping to make this event so successful and a special thanks to the Rosemary Works Parents' Network Ents Committee (Michelle, Kathryn, Mette and Lora) for creating these lovely treats and hiding the tickets. A magical afternoon! Press here for more photos.

. Happy Easter!
The staff and I would like to warmly wish you all a very happy Easter. I hope you manage to have some family time and that the weather (if you re staying in England) is kind to us! We all cant believe that weve been through two thirds of the academic year so far, but I can assure you, as ever, that the final term will be filled with fantastic activities and adventures for the children. For Years 1, 2, 3, the Enrichment Time topic is A Walk on the Wild Side where theyll study and visit as many woods and forests as we can, and the Early Years team are embracing the Forest School concept, so expect some pleasant surprises upon our return as the staff prepare the playground (mud kitchen included) for a more natural heuristic experience for our children.
