FMAS is a 501-(c)3 non-profit organization that provides critical medical care, food, shelter, and comfort to the

stray and homeless animals of Manchester, NH. Each year we take in over 1,000 cats and dogs and provide them with the care they need before adopting them back out to loving homes. Every dog and cat that comes through the shelter is inoculated against common diseases and then spayed or neutered to ensure that they

will never again contribute to the overpopulation problem. FMAS operates the Manchester Animal Shelter

located at 490 Dunbarton Road. The organization consists of approximately 80-100 volunteers who perform cat

care, dog care, medical care, foster care, and reception duties. The Friends of the Manchester Animal Shelter

(FMAS) believe that all animals are deserving of life, respect and care. To that end, our goal is zero-population

growth through spay and neuter programs and services that focus on education, medical care, fostering and adoption.

SUCCESS STORY - TONKA

In December 2010, Manchester residents reported a dog wandering the streets, near death. The dog, who was eventually named Tonka, came into the shelter weighing a mere 29 pounds. Tonka’s spine and legs were covered in sores, his bones were exposed

and he suffered from severe urine scalding, which is believed to be the result of too much time spent in a too-small crate. On year

and four surgeries later, Tonka finally found his furver home. The

Tonka Medical Fund was created to help cover medical care for

Manchester’s most severely abused or neglected four-legged residents.
