Implication [the sub-meanings which exist within the principle] Signicance [relevance to the readers] 1 Corinthians 2:11 1 John 2:26,27 Psalms 119:24 John 1:17 GENERAL PRESUPPOSITIONS AND PRINCIPLES 1. God exist. 2. God cannot contradict himself. 3. There exist clear and difcult passages. 4. The interpreters theological system is crucial. 5. Bible is a divine-human book. 6. Word is not the basic carrier of the meaning but at least a sentence [a meaningful unit]. Context is the key. 7. Do not minimize the importance of the Original Languages. 8. Do not exaggerate the importance of Biblical Languages. 9. Do not equate the meaning of a word with its history. 10. Do not read the various meanings of a word into a specic use. John 21:15-17/5:20. 11. English Translations are reliable for most purposes. 12. Work form the assumption that bible is authoritative. 13. Bible interprets itself. 14. Saving faith and Holy Spirit Control is necessary. 15. Interpret personal experience in the light of scripture and not the opposite. 16. Biblical examples are authoritative only when supported by a command. 17. A believer is free to do anything which the bible does not prohibit if it is not against the revealed principles, its spirit and sensitivities [smoking, video game] 18. The primary purpose of the bible is to change our lives and not to increase our knowledge. 19. Each christian can investigate the bible for himself [personal freedom]. He is not bound by any tradition. 20. Church history is important but not decisive to interpretation. 21. Be careful when you claim a promise.
