1.01 DESCRIPTION OF WORK A. This Section covers the furnishing and installation of finish hardware and shall include all necessary fixings and fastenings. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, tools, and equipment for a complete and operable facility.

1.04 REFERENCES A. The referred codes and standards are intended to provide an acceptable level of quality for materials and products. In case of conflict between these standards and the text of this specification, the specification text shall govern. 1.05 DEFINITIONS A. B. active door or leaf: The first operating door of a pair of doors. anchor hinge: A heavy weight hinge with each leaf extended to its top edge and bent to form a flange that fastens to the top edge of door or to the frame rabbet. anti-thrust action: Latch action in which the latch bolt, when engaged, is resisted from being forced back by end pressure on the bolt. armor plate: A plate that can be of various materials and thicknesses applied to a door, either externally or internally, and can extend to the full height and width of the door. bolt: A metal bar which, when actuated, is projected (thrown) either horizontally or vertically into a retaining member, such as a strike plate to prevent a door from moving or opening. butt hinge: A hinge with rectangular leaves, usually of the same size, and multiple bearing contacts. butt joint: Intersecting members which are not mitered. casement hinge: Hinge used for a side or top hung casement. coordinator: A mechanism which controls the order of closing of a pair of swing doors; used with doors equipped with overlapping astragals and certain panic and fire exit hardware which requires one door to close ahead of the other. cut-out: An opening in the hollow metal door or frame to accommodate hardware, glazing, louvers or other options. cylinder: The cylindrical mechanism which receives the key used to operate a lock. There are two basic types: 1. mortise type, having a threaded surface which screws directly into a lock case, with a cam engaging the lock mechanism. rim type, mounted on the surface of the door independently of lock, usually by screws from the reverse side, and engaging with the lock mechanism by means of a tail-piece or metal extension.

cylinder lock: A lock in which the locking mechanism is controlled by a cylinder. cylinder rose: Plate that surrounds the outer end of a cylinder. cylindrical (bored): A cylindrical lock with the cylinder through the knob or lever. It is

installed in a door having one hole through the thickness of the door and another in from the edge. O. deadbolt (of a lock): A lock bolt having no spring action or bevel; and which is operated by a key or a thumb turn. deadlatch: A latch having an auxiliary feature which prevents its retraction by end pressure when in the projected position. deadlock: A lock in which a bolt is moved by means of a key or thumb turn, and which is positively held in its projected position. A lock equipped with a deadbolt only. deadlock and latch: A hardware item containing both a deadbolt and a latchbolt. door closer: A device or mechanism to control the closing of a swing door; may be overhead or floor mounted and either exposed or concealed. door guard rail: Bar fixed across the face of a door leaf to protect it from damage. door plate: Plate to protect part of the surface of a door leaf. door stop: A device to stop the swing or movement of a door at a certain point. Also, an architectural term defining that part of a door frame against which the door closes. double acting door: A door equipped with hardware which permits it to swing to either side of the plane of its frame. electric strike: An electric device that permits releasing of the door from a remote control. escutcheon: A decorative door handle plate attached to the stile directly behind the handle(s). Generally square or rectangular shaped. exit device: A door locking device that grants instant exit when someone presses a crossbar to release the locking bolt or latch. finish hardware: Hardware that has a finished appearance as well as a functional purpose and that may be considered a part of the decorative treatment of a room or building. Also termed Architectural. floor spring: Door closer positioned in the floor that also supports the door leaf. flush bolt: A rod or bolt which is mounted flush with the edge or the face of the inactive door of a pair, to lock the door to the frame at the head and/or sill. When mounted in the edge, operation is by means of recessed lever. footbolt: A locking rod device installed vertically in the stile or astragal of a door or screen which when activated secures the panel or screen in a stationary position. hand (of lock): A term used to indicate the direction of swing or movement, and locking security side of a door. handle: Fitting for opening and closing doors, windows, gates and drawers by hand.

GG. hardware: Any mechanism which is designed to perform an operable function in the use of a door and frame. HH. hardware schedule: Complete listing of all hardware specified for the project organized by opening numbers including hardware sets, manufacturers names, template numbers, and special hardware locations. hardware set: The itemized listing of hardware that is specified to be installed on an opening or group of openings. The hardware set also includes handing, fire ratings and opening numbers. headbolt: A locking rod device installed vertically in the stile or astragal of a door or screen which when activated secures the door in a stationary position. hinge: A hardware device generally consisting of two metal plates having loops formed along one edge of each to engage and rotate about a common pivot rod or "pin;" used to suspend and support a swing door in its frame. kick-plate: Door plate fixed across the bottom of a door leaf.

MM. labeled door or frame: A door or frame that conforms to all applicable requirements, in respect to fire resistance, of a nationally recognized authority and bears a label designating the fire resistance rating. NN. latch: A hardware mechanism having a spring-activated beveled-end bolt, retractable by a knob or lever handle, but no locking device; used to hold a door in its closed position. See also Deadlatch. A beveled end latch bolt, usually operated by a knob, handle or turn piece.

AAA. rabbet: The abutting edges of a pair of doors or windows, shaped to provide a tight fit. BBB. reversible lock: A lock that by reversing the latch bolt may be used by any hand. On certain types of locks, other parts must also be changed. CCC. rim lock: Lock for fixing on the face of a door leaf. DDD. rose: A circular cover plate attached to the stile directly behind a knob or door handle. May be plain or have a decorative design embossed into the cover. EEE. shank (of a handle): The projecting stem of handle into which the spindle is fastened. FFF. silencer: A small piece of resilient material attached to the stop on a frame to cushion the closing of a door. GGG. spindle (of a handle): The bar or tube connected with the knob or lever handle that passes through the hub of the lock or otherwise engages the mechanism to transmit the handle action to the bolt(s). HHH. spring hinge: Hinge that includes a spring that closes a door leaf automatically, either single or double action. III. spring pivot: Pivot hinge that includes a spring that closes a door leaf automatically, either single or double action. stop (of a lock): The button, or other small device that serves to lock the latch bolt against the outside handle or thumb piece or unlock it if locked. Another type holds the bolt retracted.

LLL. strike: An opening or a retaining device provided in the head or a jamb of a frame, or in the edge of a meeting stile of an inactive door to receive a lock or latch. 1.06 SUBMITTALS A. The Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission, under the provisions of SECTION 01330, the following items for review and approval before commencing Work: 1. Product Data a) Manufacturer's data sheets on product to be used, including: 1) 2) 2. Preparation instructions and recommendations. Detailed installation diagrams and instructions.

Hardware List and Catalog Cuts a) List of builders' hardware accompanied by manufacturers' catalog cuts for each different item. List shall be submitted in the following form: Reference Mfrs .Name PublicationType and Catalog No. No. UL Mark( if BHMA Finish fire rated and Designation Listed)

Hardware Schedule a) After approval of submitted hardware list and certificates but before hardware is delivered to jobsite, the Contractor shall submit a hardware schedule for approval. Schedule shall include for each item quantities, manufacturer's catalog numbers, descriptive information and location and hardware set identification, corresponding reference publication type number to manufacturer's catalog number, list of abbreviations, key-control symbols indicating keying system, and UL mark (if fire-rated and listed).

Certificates of Compliance and Test Reports a) The Contractor shall submit for approval concurrently with hardware list, certification from manufacturer that hardware conforms to requirements specified herein and shall submit certified copies of reports of tests required in referenced publications for hardware items specified. The Contractor shall conduct testing either in manufacturer's plant certified by an independent testing laboratory or in an independent laboratory within 4 months prior to submittal of reports for approval. When test reports of previously tested hardware are submitted, they shall be accompanied with certification from manufacturer that previously tested hardware is of same type, quality, manufacture, and make as that proposed for current project.

a)

Selection Samples 1) Prior to submittals of the last draft of the hardware schedule, and prior to any delivery of hardware, the Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission for review one sample of each exposed hardware unit, finished as specified, and tagged with full description for coordination with the schedule. Samples will be returned to the supplier and shall not be installed in the work except with prior review and approval of the Royal Commission.

b)

Verification Samples 1) Two samples of each type of hardware item that will be exposed in completed work.

Quality Control Submittals a) The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of all the purchased items, and shall develop and submit a Supplier Quality Inspection Plan for review. The inspection plan shall cover those items intended for shop inspection and the procedures for carrying out the same.

7.

Templates a) Templates shall be furnished in a timely manner to the various door and frame having provisions to receive the specified hardware.

8.

Operation and Maintenance Data a) The Contractor shall provide schedule and data for operation and maintenance of hardware.

1.07 QUALITY CONTROL A. The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of work and shall develop and propose programs and methods of construction and testing such as to achieve the specified quality to the approval of the Royal Commission in accordance with SECTION 01450. Qualifications 1. Qualifications of Manufacturers a) Products used in the work of this Section shall be produced by manufacturers regularly engaged in manufacture of similar items and with a history of successful production acceptable to the Royal Commission.

Qualifications of Installers a) The Contractor shall use adequate number of skilled workmen who are thoroughly trained and experienced in the necessary crafts and who are completely familiar with the specified requirements and the methods

needed for proper performance of work. 3. Contractors site supervisor(s) shall have knowledge of referenced standards and at least 5 years of documented experience.

C.

All work shall be of the best quality. The Contractor shall not deviate from the plans or specifications. If any error or conflict appears, the same is to be referred to the Royal Commission before the work is commenced. The Contractor shall comply with the applicable provisions of the specified codes and standards, except as otherwise shown or specified on the Contract Drawings. The hardware supplier and manufacturer shall be technically qualified and experienced in scheduling, detailing, and fitting and adjusting finish hardware and shall provide written documentation to the Royal Commission to qualify as an approved vendor. Refinements such as butt knuckle clearance, strike lip length adjustment, beveling or rabbeting or rounding of lock faces, and centering of backsets will be expected and shall be included in the suppliers' hardware schedule. Hardware supplier shall be certified by hardware manufacturer for installation of its hardware. Internal Quality Control 1. Contractors internal quality control shall include but not be limited to: a) Checking suppliers test certificates and certificates of compliance to conform to specification and referenced standards prior to assembly or installation. Checking suppliers delivery tickets for compliance with supply order and specification.

1.08 HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS A. All works undertaken in relation to this Specification are to be completed in full accordance with the respective health and safety requirements established by the following: 1. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia a) 2. Legislation, Regulation, Standards and Codes.

Royal Commission Regulations a) Standards, Contractual Conditions, and Health and Safety Systems.

Contractor a) Health and Safety Standards and Systems as accepted by the Royal Commission.

In the absence of any of the above, best accepted industry practice shall be employed throughout.

1.09 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. Hardware 1. Hardware of the same kind or type shall be product of one manufacturer, except that lock cylinders may be products of different manufacturers, modified as necessary to provide specified function or operation.

B.

Hardware Reinforcement 1. Reinforcement for attachment of hardware to metal doors and frames shall be in accordance with SECTION 08105.

C.

Material Substitution 1. Substitution of materials will not be permitted except where specifically provided for herein.

The finish hardware supplier shall carefully review floor plans door specified hardware against all applicable codes and reference standards and shall notify the Royal Commission of any conflicts. If specified items do not work properly, or items required by code are missing from the approved schedule, the Royal Commission shall be notified in writing prior to bid date. Modifications required after award of the Contract shall be made by the supplier at no additional cost to the Royal Commission. All finish hardware submittals shall be submitted to the Royal Commission within 45 days of signed Contract. If the finish hardware submittals are not submitted within the time requirement, the Contractor shall furnish the hardware specified by catalog numbers. This is to expedite delivery of templates to the door and frame suppliers in ample time, to prevent delaying the work. The Contractor shall furnish templates to other suppliers as required to facilitate the correct size and location of mortising, reinforcing, drilling, and tapping of doors and frames. When all finish hardware submittals are finalized and accepted by the Royal Commission, the Contractor shall provide the Royal Commission with manufacturer's product data assembled in binders which shall include manufacturer's published technical descriptions, installation and operation instructions, special tools required to adjust and maintenance recommendations for each type of hardware. The Contractor shall neatly mark out those items on the manufacturer's published data sheets which are not applicable to this Project. Design 1. 1.10 COORDINATION WITH OTHER TRADES A. The Contractor shall study the drawings, details, and shop drawings of other trades to determine that proper screws, bolts and nuts, and back sets are provided in each instance with or for each hardware item to ensure proper fixing. Lock reinforcement plates shall be furnished on hollow metal doors receiving cylindrical locksets.

1.11 WARRANTY A. B. Refer to SECTION 01780 for additional warranty requirements. Warranty shall provide for the immediate repair or replacement of material and systems that were defective prior, during and after installation. Warranty shall include necessary adjustments and temporary repairs to maintain normal operation during warranty period. 3-knuckle hinges shall have lifetime warranty.

1.12 DELIVERY, HANDLING AND STORAGE A. The Contractor shall deliver, handle and store hardware units and accessories in accordance with SECTIONS 01650 and 01660, as well as the following requirements: 1. Delivery and Marking a) The Contractor shall deliver items of hardware to jobsite in their original individual containers, complete with necessary appurtenances including screws, keys and instructions. PART 2

PRODUCTS

2.01 GENERAL A. All goods and products covered by these Specifications shall be procured, when available, from an in-Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods and products manufactured out-of-Kingdom must be approved by the Royal Commission. Items listed herein are described to indicate characteristics, functions, and general descriptions, type, approximate size, and quality required for door hardware sets. 1. Locksets shall be complete with lock or latch, strike plate, escutcheons, knobs or levers, and roses. Locksets, except for rim locks, shall be Grade 2 cylindrical locksets. ANSI/BHMA function numbers have been given for each lockset to further indicate the function. Unless otherwise specified for an individual product or material, supply all products specified in this Section from the same manufacturer. Hardware shall be provided in the material noted by symbol in Hardware Schedule and on the Contract Drawings. Hardware finishes scheduled shall meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA.

2.02 HINGES A. General 1. Hinges shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.1 Grade 2. Finish shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.18. Height (length) of hinge shall be as necessary to clear trim when door is opened to 180, where required. Hinges shall be of steel (wrought steel or forged steel), stainless steel (Type 304), brass (wrought), bronze (cast silicon), aluminum or nylon with finishes indicated in Schedules. The size of the hinges shall be adequate for the respective door weight and size and comply with manufacturer's data. Pins of all non-ferrous type hinges shall be of stainless steel. Protruding heads of stainless steel pins shall match metal of hinge. Butt Hinges 1. Butt hinges may be applied as full mortise, full surface, half mortise, half surface or slide-in hinges as indicated in Schedules or Contract Drawings. The Contractor shall provide spring hinges or pivots double or single-acting as indicated in Schedules. Gate spring pivots shall always be fixed to the jamb.

2.03 LOCKSETS AND LATCHSETS A. General 1. Locksets and latchsets shall meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.2 and shall be the series, types, grades, and functions as specified and Scheduled. Locks shall have interchangeable or removable cylinders. Core shall be removable and replaceable by use of special control keys. They shall be provided according to the required functions and finishes as indicated in Schedules, and meet the respective test requirements.

Bored Locks and Latches 1. 2. Materials for bored locks and latches shall be of non-ferrous metal. Bored locks and latches for doors shall comply with the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.2, Grade 2.

Auxiliary Locks 1. The Contractor shall provide Auxiliary Locks according to ANSI/BHMA A156.5 Operational and Security Grades 2. Materials for locks shall be of non-ferrous metal. They shall be provided according to the required grades and functions as indicated in schedules, and meet the respective test requirements.

Electrified Locks 1. Electrified locks shall be of Grade 2 and UL listed for the required fire rating or security. Door trim as well shall be of the fire rated type, respectively listed for the required security.

Electronic Locks 1. Electronic locks shall be used as necessary as per Schedule on the basis of one manufacturer's product.

Exit Devices 1. Exit devices shall meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 2, of types and functions scheduled. All units shall have lock down device except labeled fire doors. Exit devices shall be surface mounted and shall have internally reinforced crossbars. Exit devices shall be of bronze or stainless steel Type 304. Crossbars shall be provided with dogging feature for push-pull operation of doors. Working parts inside the device case shall be drop-forged bronze, or the Royal Commission approved equal.

Padlocks 1. Padlocks shall be 7-lever, key type with minimum 63.5 mm case size, galvanized. Shackle shall be case-hardened.

2.04 STRIKES A. Standard Strikes 1. Strikes shall be made of steel, stainless steel or brass. Material thickness shall not be less than 1.5 mm. Shape, size and grade shall fit the adequate lock. Strikes for non-rebated wooden doors shall have an extension for the latch bolt to protect the edge of door.

Electric Strikes 1. The Contractor shall provide electric strikes of types indicated, which are either UL-listed or tested and labeled according to ANSI/UL 1034 or an equivalent Standard. Testing shall be done by an independent testing laboratory. The case and working parts of Grade 1 strikes shall be of corrosion resistant material. The case and working parts of Grade 2 and 3 strikes shall be of corrosion resistant material or be of material protected against corrosion. Testing and labeling shall be done by an authorized and independent laboratory. Strikes shall have a horizontal adjustment capability of minimum 4 mm to compensate for warped doors. The bolt cavity depth shall accept 25 mm bolt projections. Strikes shall be fail safe or secure (unlocked or locked) in case of power failure.

2.05 CYLINDERS A. B. Cylinders shall be of security grades according to grades of locks. The Contractor shall provide cylinders of type and grade indicated, tested and labeled according to ANSI/BHMA A156.5. Testing shall be done by an authorized and independent testing laboratory. All cylinders shall be of the pin tumbler type and shall have 6 pin tumbler cavities. The keyways shall have longitudinal ribs. Modifications of these requirements for reasons of providing greater security are permitted. Cylinders shall be permanently inscribed with a number that identifies the keychange combination to the building, lock manufacturer, key-control symbol, and manufacturer's trademark. Only manufacturer's name or trademark shall be visible after installation.

2.06 DOOR CLOSING DEVICES A. General 1. Door closing devices shall meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA 156.4, Grade 2, type and function, as specified and scheduled. The sweep period of the closer shall be adjusted so that from an open position of 70, the door will take at least 3 seconds to move to a point 75 mm from the latch, measured to the leading edge of the door. Checking floor hinge devices shall be provided with temporary cover plate of iron or steel, to remain in place until floor finishing is completed. Use manufacturer's installation jig when setting floor hinges. Door closers shall have sufficient capacity to close the door. Independent Allen key control of latch speed, door sweep speed, back-check position and back-check cushioning adjustment shall be provided. They shall be adaptable to regular arm, parallel arm or top jamb mounting, with equal performance. Closer fluid shall be non-gumming, non-freezing liquid checking type. Parallel arm closers shall be provided on all exterior and interior out swing (reverse bevel) doors, and on doors where closers would be exposed to view from corridors, lobbies or vestibules. The Contractor shall provide additional features as indicated in Schedules.

2.08 PUSH-PULL PLATES A. Plates shall meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.6. Push-pull plates shall be provided with cutouts for cylinders or keys on doors requiring locks. Push-pull plates for doors not requiring locks shall not have cutouts. Push-pull plates shall be of steel (wrought steel or forged steel), stainless steel (Type 304), brass (wrought), bronze (cast silicon), aluminum or nylon with finishes indicated in Schedules.

2.09 PUSH-PULL BARS A. B. Bars shall meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.6. Push pull bars shall be of steel (wrought steel or forged steel), stainless steel (Type 304), brass (wrought), bronze (cast silicon) or aluminum.

2.10 ASTRAGALS A. Astragals shall be compensating, adjustable, or self-aligning type. Astragals on firerated doors shall also meet requirements for fire classification indicated. Material shall be non-corrosive metal with finish to match either the basic hardware trim or the door finish.

2.11 THRESHOLDS A. Thresholds shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.3, auxiliary item (AI) where scheduled for panic exit device installation, and ANSI/BHMA A156.4 type scheduled for floor pivot installations. Other thresholds as scheduled shall conform to ANSI/BHMA A156.6.

2.12 WEATHERSTRIPPING A. Pile Weatherstripping 1. Pile shall be produced from multifilament polypropylene yarn or other equivalent material. Yarn shall have substantial air filtration performance. Yarn shall be silicon treated to improve water repellence and shall also ultra violet stabilized. The yarn shall be bonded to its backing which shall also be polypropylene or equivalent compound. The backing shall give a strong rigid base for easy application whilst retaining flexibility for straightforward reeling and handling. Pile shall incorporate a reeling method to eliminate criss-crossing of pile on the reel to avoid pile distortion and tangling when feeding off the reel. Pile width shall be 4.8, 6.7 mm or as approved by the Royal Commission. Pile height shall be between 3 to 12.75 mm or as approved by the Royal Commission.

B.

Compression Weatherstripping 1. The Contractor shall provide the manufacturer's standard replacement compressible weatherstripping gaskets of molded neoprene, complying with ASTM D2000 or molded PVC complying with ASTM D2287.

2.13 DOOR STOPS OR BUMPERS A. Door stops or bumpers shall be provided and located to prevent contact between door hardware, door, or both and adjacent wall surfaces. The Contractor shall provide hold open device for out-swinging exterior doors. Door stop/bumper shall satisfy the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.16.

2.14 DOOR HOLDER A. Door holders shall be of type, material and finish as indicated in Schedule. Automatic holders shall incorporate a spring system to minimize shock for door and holder. Size and fixing method shall be adequate for size and weight of doors. Door holder shall conform to ANSI/BHMA A156.16.

2.15 DOOR SILENCER A. Door silencer shall be provided and indicated as of type for metal or wood frames. Door silencers shall meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.16. Three silencers shall be provided for each single door frame, and 4 for each double door frame.

2.16 DOOR COORDINATORS A. Automatic Spring or Gravity Action 1. Holder arm shall drop or swing into position when inactive door is opened, so as to hold active door sufficiently ajar to permit inactive door to close freely. Holder shall release upon closing of inactive door and permit active door to close. Arm shall not project into doorway below lower surfaces of stop bead on head of door frame. Protection plates shall be furnished for top edge of doors at point of contact with working parts of the device. The Contractor shall provide coordinating device on double doors with astragals and on double doors receiving closing device on each leaf.

2.17 DOOR VIEWER A. Door viewer shall be of solid, polished brass and UL listed, or as otherwise indicated. It shall provide 160 minimum viewing angle.

2.18 FLUSH BOLTS/SURFACE BOLTS A. Flush bolts and dust proof strikes shall be of the Royal Commission approved manufacture. Surface bolt, slide flush bolt and lever flush bolt shall meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.16. Automatic flush bolt and self latching bolt shall meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.3.

2.19 FASTENERS A. The Contractor shall supply fasteners of proper type, quality, size, quantity, and finish with hardware. Fasteners exposed to weather shall be nonferrous metal or stainless steel and match finish of trim as closely as possible. Where hardware is of stainless steel, screws and fastenings shall also be of stainless steel. Use fasteners of type necessary to accomplish a permanent installation. 1. 2.21 FINISHES A. All finishes shall be as per ANSI/BHMA numbers as specified in the Schedule and Contract Drawings.

2.22 WINDOW HARDWARE A. Hinges 1. 2. Hinges for windows shall be of the lift-off type. Hinges shall be of steel or stainless steel with finishes indicated in Schedules. Steel hinges shall have a non-corrosive finish if not otherwise indicated. The size of the hinges shall be adequate for the respective weight of windows and comply with manufacturer's data. Windows more than 1250 mm high shall have 3 hinges.

Bolts 1. Bolts for windows shall be of steel with non-corrosive finish. They shall be mortised into the rebate with minimum of 2 bolts per window, operated by a single handle. Windows more than 1250 mm high shall have 3 bolts.

Tilt Hardware 1. Windows to be tilted only shall have hinges and bolts as specified above and be equipped with limiters for the tilted position. Overhead tilt windows shall have the necessary operating device to enable the user operating it from the floor level.

Turn-Tilt Hardware 1. Turn-tilt windows shall have an integrated hinge-bolt combination which is mortised into the rebate and operated by a single handle only. Only hinges shall be visible. Hardware shall be adequate for the respective weight of windows and comply with manufacturer's data. It shall be made of steel and have a non-corrosive finish or as otherwise indicated.

Sliding Gear 1. Bottom rails shall be integrated in window frame. Ball bearing rollers shall be of plastic for low noise operation. Size of rollers shall be selected according to manufacturer's recommendations.

Handles 1. Handles shall be as per Schedule and as approved by the Royal Commission. Pin shall be of steel, 7 x 7 mm. Fasteners shall not be visible.

PART 3

EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION A. The Contractor shall verify that door and window and frames are properly hung and adjusted already to receive work and dimensions are as indicated on Shop Drawings. The Contractor shall not proceed with the installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. The Contractor shall verify that electric power is available to power operated devices and of the correct characteristics. The Contractor shall stockpile all items sufficiently in advance to ensure their availability and make all necessary deliveries in a timely manner to ensure orderly progress of the total work. The Contractor shall verify that hardware complies with requirements in Schedules.

3.02 INSTALLATION A. General 1. The Contractor shall: a) Hang doors and install hardware when concrete work, plastering, tile setting, and other operations which increase humidity and dust in the building have been completed. Avoid hanging wood doors in areas where materials are not sufficiently dry so as to not affect the dimensional stability of the door. Install hardware, except hinges, after field painting or sealing, specified in SECTION 09915. Center doors in the opening or frame with contact surfaces fit tight and even, without forcing or warping the components. Replace doors and frames that do not conform to hardware height requirements. Install hardware in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and applicable codes. Install finish hardware items in a neat, workmanlike manner. Use templates provided by hardware item manufacturer. Avoid installing lock trim until all wet and rough work is completed; install locks, but use construction key until trim is installed. latches shall be greased and oiled on completion to ensure free action and adjusted as necessary. B. Door Hardware 1. The Contractor shall: a) b) Install hardware at the location (heights) specified. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's printed instructions and DHI A115.1G unless specified otherwise. Drill and tap screw holes in steel frames and doors for surface mounted hardware. Use shims only at hinges where required to provide uniform clearance and alignment of door. Cut shims from stainless steel sheet to same size as hinge. Tighten screws completely in place, and not drive them. Carefully fit and securely attach hardware items to doors and frames. Door Bottoms 1. The Contractor shall install automatic door bottom so that gasket is automatically forced down to tightly seal instantly when the door is fully closed and raised instantly when the door begins to open. Mount automatic door bottom to provide 5 mm clearance at door bottom.

Astragals 1. The Contractor shall install magnetic astragal seal by pressing it into 16.5 x 12 mm deep mortise in hardwood door of minimum 40 mm thickness. Metal astragal shall fit over edge of door (stile) and shall be installed using 8 No. 20 mm Phillips head sheet metal screws with countersunk mounting holes for a flush appearance on maximum 300 mm centers. Spacing may vary based on hardware preparation and size.

Hinges 1. The Contractor shall install hinges as specified in par. 3.03 A.8, in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, and as follows: a) Spring hinges shall be installed at either top and bottom or center and bottom hinge locations; install ball bearing hinge in remaining location. Check for proper door clearance. Allow at least 6 mm minimum at door bottom for vacuum relief.

Suitable fastening devices shall be provided for installation of hardware items. Installation shall provide against shock and tampering. Exposed fastenings shall match contiguous material and finish of hardware items and shall be inconspicuous. Where practicable, fasteners shall finish flush with surrounding surfaces. Fastenings shall be of materials compatible with contacting hardware surfaces.

Construction Core 1. The Contractor shall install his own construction core in lock cylinders for use during construction.

3.03 LOCATION OF HARDWARE ON HINGED DOORS A. The Contractor shall locate hardware as follows, or as specified on the Contract Drawings. For any other hardware item, refer to DHI Recommended Locations of Architectural Hardware:

Locks a) Locate knobs so that centerline of strike is 1024 mm (nominal) above bottom of door frame.

Deadlocks a) Mount deadlocks so that centerline of cylinder and strike is 1220 mm (nominal) above bottom of door frame (Do not mount deadlocks in conjunction with push and pull plates).

Fire Exit (Panic) Device a) Locate so that centerline of lock strike is 1024 mm (nominal) above bottom of door frame (Where knob, pull, or pull with thumb piece is used as outside trim with panic devices, height of strike will determine position of outside trim).

Door Pulls a) Locate so that centerline of grip, or of bar where single bar is used, is 1067 mm (nominal) above from bottom of door frame.

Push Plates a) Locate so that centerline of push plate is 1143 mm (nominal) above bottom of door frame.

Combination Push and Pull Bars a) Mount independent of other hardware and locate so that centerline of push and pull bar is 1067 mm above bottom of door frame.

Kick, Mop and Armor Plates a) Locate kick plates and armor plates on push sides of single-acting doors and on both sides of double-acting doors. Locate mop plates so that lower longitudinal edge is flush with bottom of door.

Hinges shall be located as follows: a) Top Hinge 1) Not over 300 mm from inside of frame rabbet at head to centerline of hinge.

Door Silencers a) On hollow metal frames for single doors, locate silencers directly opposite hinges. On frames for double doors, locate silencers on head rabbet of door frame, approximately 150 mm each side of centerline of door opening.

3.04 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. An Architectural Hardware Consultant appointed by the Contractor shall inspect and certify that hardware has been furnished and installed in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and as specified.

3.05 FINAL ADJUSTMENT A. Immediately upon completion and acceptance of the Project, make final adjustments in the finish hardware installation, remove construction core from cylinders and then open sealed containers in presence of the Royal Commission representative and install proper core in cylinders. Demonstrate to the Royal Commission that each item is in perfect working condition, performs intended function and that tagged keys operate respective locks. Items of hardware not acceptable to the Royal Commission shall be corrected by proper adjustment or replacement. Deliver tagged keys to the Royal Commission upon acceptance of each core cylinder installation. Moving parts shall be lubricated as recommended by manufacturer. Wherever hardware installation is made more than 1 month prior to occupancy, check and adjust hardware 1 week prior to occupancy. Operating items shall be cleaned and lubricated as necessary to restore proper function and finish. Door control devices shall be adjusted to compensate for the normal operating level of HVAC equipment. Approximately 6 months after acceptance of hardware in each area, it shall be adjusted as necessary for proper operation. Hardware items that have failed, or cannot be properly adjusted due to faulty design, defective materials, or workmanship shall be replaced.

3.06 REPLACEMENT A. Hardware finish and operation shall be free from blemishes and defects. Defective pieces shall be rejected even though installed before the defect is discovered; they shall be removed, and new pieces shall be substituted in their place.

3.07 TRAINING A. The Contractor shall instruct the Royal Commission personnel in proper cleaning, adjustment, and maintenance of finished hardware items during final adjustment of hardware.

3.08 PROTECTION OF FINISHED WORK A. The Contractor shall: 1. Protect Installed hardware with heavy wrapping or tape. Protective wrapping shall be removed at substantial completion. Protect finished hardware from paint, stains, and blemishes under provisions of SECTION 01740. After installation, protect all hardware from damage by other trades. Protect installed hardware until acceptance of the work. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products after completion. Remove all protection and leave all hardware in a perfect working order, upon completion and before hand-over.
