hat does one do after being in the auto leasing business, baking business and then retiring? If youre Jim DAmbrosia, you open up Lincoln Gold and Coin. Ive been retired for 11 years and think I retired too early. I still have a lot more to give, D'Ambrosia said. Its a fun and exciting business. Anyone watching Pawn Stars, DAmbrosia said, will understand
a little of what will be going on in the store. Lincoln Gold and Coin purchases and sells coins, precious metals, jewelry and unique collectibles. If you can carry it into the store, we want to see it, D'Ambrosia said.
Unlike Pawn Stars, the store will not purchase large items such as cars, cannons and other unique items seen on the television show. Additionally, Lincoln Gold and Coin will not be a pawn shop. Inside Lincoln asked D'Ambrosia what the catalyst was for starting his own collections. Lincolns new business owner explained, My very first unique, and expensive, collectible was a carved ivory letter opener that came out of the estate of Oliver Hardy.

So many people have been excited about the fact that were opening, D'Ambrosia said. I plan to offer a service to people who are looking for a fair and honest shake of things they no longer need ...jewelry, collectible items. Pay Lincoln Gold and Coin a visit by bringing in one of your treasures or looking for something else to add to your collection.

ince 1970, April 22 has been deemed Earth Day and is globally recognized as a day when we all need to recognize how our actions affect the world in which we live. Whether its an enormous public event, a small neighborhood activity or individuals looking for ways to better our planet, no contribution is too small. Over the years, we have incorporated the habits of recycling, creating compost bins and turning off lights when not in use. Following are some littleknown facts and ones we may tend to forget that will help us continue to strive for a healthier planet. Go straw-free or at least use paper straws. According to the EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), plastic accounts for 90 percent of the trash found in the worlds oceans. While this trash may just look unsightly, at least 267 species of marine life have been known to have suffered from entanglement and ingestion of plastic debris. Shop for durable and longlasting products. We have become a throw-away society. Whether its razors, disposable cookware (think turkey roasting pans) or other items that have become a part of everyday lives, we waste a lot. Recently, the belt on my bread maker went out. When I called the manufacturer, I was told a replacement was not available so I should just buy a new unit! Remember the day when a landline phone would hang on a wall for decades. Today, we get new cell phones every few years, without even thinking about it. Recycle your ink and toner cartridges. Most home printers have cartridges that can be
When we sit down at a restaurant or go through the drive-through, plastic straws are usually given out with whatever drink you order. With plastic being bad for our environment, consider using paper straws or even reusable ones.

refilled. I recently filled the toner cartridge of my laser printer and saved myself about $75 by not having to purchase new cartridges. And I didnt have to toss the old ones into a landfill. Reuse printer paper. If you dont use a document that comes out of the printer, save it for note paper or use it to print something on the other side. Additionally, little kids dont need clean paper to create masterpieces; give them your printer rejects and let them draw to their hearts content. Obviously, if youve printed any documents that contain per-
sonal information such as social security numbers, credit card numbers or drivers license numbers, you should take the appropriate steps to make sure these pieces of information are not given to anyone who is not meant to have them. Dont release balloons outside. Metallic balloons can get caught in power lines and create outages. When latex balloons are released, they have to pop and land somewhere. Remnants of the balloon can be
ingested by animals, which can cause suffocation. Use reusable bags for your shopping. By using reusable bags, youre not only helping the environment but its a lot more convenient for the shopper. How many times has a plastic or paper bag ripped open on the way to your car, only to have that jar of pickles or carton of eggs break? I recently purchased a set of reusable bags that fold up into their own pouch. Theyre heavy
You may feel that your efforts alone won't make a difference. However, were all on this spinning globe together and by educating our friends and family to look for new ways to keep our planet clean and green, we can all look forward to a cleaner and healthier tomorrow.
Reuse-A-Shoe and uses the recycled materials to create athletic courts, tracks and playground surfaces. Kill roaches naturally. No one likes to have roaches, but if you have them, leave the insecticides at the store and have a bottle of soapy water on hand. Give your uninvited visitors a squirt on their head and lower body; they should be dead within about a minute. You may feel that your efforts alone won't make a difference. However, were all on this spinning globe together and by educating our friends and family to look for new ways to keep our planet clean and green, we can all look forward to a cleaner and healthier tomorrow.
We used to get asked if we wanted paper or plastic. Now, were asked if we brought our own reusable bags. If you forget your bags at home and have to use disposable bags, be sure to save them and repurpose them for future use. Whether its to take your lunch to work, carry home wet bathing suits from the beach or to bring along when you walk your dog, plastic bags should not be discarded as soon as you get home from the grocery store.

CRUSTLESS QUICHE
1 cup ham 1/4 cup diced onion 1/4 cup diced green bell pepper 1/4 mushrooms spinach (optional) 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese 8 eggs 2 cups milk 1 (16 ounce) package frozen hash brown potatoes, thawed (optional)
Easter and Passover are a wonderful time of year. A time of new beginnings, remembering why we celebrate and gathering with friends and family. With any good celebrations, you need to have good food! Whats great about these two recipes is that they can easily be altered for Passover or used as listed for your Easter celebration. For Passover, substitute your favorite vegetables for the ham in the Crustless Quiche.
Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 7x11 inch casserole dish. In a large bowl, beat together eggs and milk. Mix in cheese, ham, onion, mushroom, green pepper and spinach. Stir in the thawed hash browns, if you choose to use them. Pour mixture into prepared casserole. For my recipe, I divide it into two pretty pie dishes. Cover with aluminum foil and bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 30 minutes until eggs have set.
Eggs are always a great base for a brunch casserole. Its actually one of those kitchen sink recipes you know, the kind where you can include everything but the kitchen sink. It can be made completely vegetarian or loaded with bacon for that bacon lover in your family.

Hunting for eggs is something children have loved doing for generations. Sometimes its hardboiled eggs and other times its plastic eggs with a prize inside. Lincolns kids are sure to have a good time with having the opportunity to hunt for eggs on two consecutive Saturdays.

Easter is a time of celebration and rebirth. One of its traditions is decorating eggs, hiding them and other activities that are centered on this symbol of Easter. The most famous Easter egg celebration takes place on the White Houses south lawn. This year will be the 136th year and more than 30,000 participants will enjoy what used to be an event only open to family members of the White House staff. Lincoln also has special activities planned for April 19, the day before Easter. Since the clubs inception in 1955, the Lincoln Lions Club has put on an Easter egg hunt for kids up through third-grade. This year, the two baseball diamonds and an open field at McBean Park will be the

etween the drought that California is experiencing and the rising costs of water in our town, many residents are looking at ways to change the landscapes of their yard. If youre not ready to completely uproot your yard and start from square one, there are simple steps you can do that will help preserve our precious aquatic resource. As we can all see from various neighborhoods, water runoff typically occurs at sidewalks and other hardscapes in your yard. By creating a strip next to walkways, the runoff can quench the thirst of some beautiful flowers. Better yet, remove more of the
grass from your yard and create some planting beds. A drip system will take much less water than your lawn. When looking at ways to change your landscape, plan on putting plants together that have the same water needs or even plant flowers that dont need a lot of water to survive. Lavender, salvia, yarrow, hostas and Dusty Miller are some perennials that will add beauty to your yard, while not requiring as much water. While annuals tend to require more water, zinnia, cosmos and marigolds don't get quite as thirsty and will hold up better during the dry times. Container gardening is another

require little to no water? Residents often think of drought-tolerant landscaping as concrete and rock. While one can make a beautiful yard with those two elements, most residents want some items that will soften the look of their lawn-
various areas. It will add visual interest that doesnt require water and will create some nice ambiance at night. The garden allows us to enjoy all five of our senses and evokes memories that may have all but been forgotten. Feeling the soil reminds me of childhood and digging for earthworms. Each time I catch the aroma of honeysuckle, Im reminded of the fragrance that was in the backyard of my first childhood home. Listening to the trickle of the water in a backyard foundation takes me back to when my brother and I would look for pollywogs in our backyard pond. Tasting produce from a backyard garden gives me as much joy as 6-year-olds reaping their first harvest and seeing the beauty of my yard inspires a peacefulness and contentedness that only Mother Nature can bring.

An allergic pet cannot afford to get bitten by fleas. Truly, one or two flea bites can cause a cascade of reactions within the pets body that result in all the classic symptoms mentioned above. The allergic reaction occurs when the pet is exposed to the saliva of the flea. The goal of regular

Seriously-allergic pets may need to be on year-round immune-system modifying drugs that keep symptoms at bay. All these are tailored to your pets needs, based on response to therapy. Allergy season does not have to be miserable for man or beast. So much more is known about the mechanics of allergies. Have a conversation with your veterinarian. We are pleased that over 40 applications were submitted and six candidates were selected for interviews. Mark Luster remarked to me that he was involved in three other chamber searches over the past 18 months and this was the strongest group of candidates he ever saw.
