From the Group Director's Desk

Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe Group Director, WeSchool I Eisenhower Fellow I Senate Member, University of Mumbai It's a VUCA world where the rules of the game have changed. We often hear about terms such as globalization, triple bottom line, more for less for more, disruptive innovation, sustainability, technological revolution, social responsibility, ethics, governance and the list goes on. To keep abreast with the dynamism, there is a dire need for students to hone their leadership skills, have greater awareness of self & context, develop a global mindset, empathy &ethical perspective. At WeSchool, all our efforts are towards grooming our students with these qualities and skill sets. Consequent to the mega shifts that have characterized the global and local business environment over the last five years, WeSchool is gearing itself towards developing the future ready managers and leaders, who are versatile, competent and value based. WeSchool's guiding philosophy has been that of AAA which stands for Acquisition, Application and Assimilation of knowledge. Our emphasis is not only on acquisition of knowledge; but on the application of knowledge. We strongly believe that by engaging students in pursuing real-life projects/simulations/case studies, wherein they are able to apply the concepts learnt, helps in permanent retention of knowledge which leads to assimilation. The genesis of Global Citizen Leader program (GCL) has been from our AAA philosophy. Last year, WeSchool students participated in the GCL Program to learn the essentials of innovation and leadership. Students groups were engaged in a local social improvement project. For a period of 6months students groups worked on issues related to Rural, Healthcare, Innovation, Social issues, Human Resources, Urban issues, Infrastructure, Systems & IT and Energy, under the guidance of Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL), USA and WeSchool Faculty members. WeSchool has always believed that programs and course curriculum should be industry oriented and over the years been a pioneer in industry oriented programs like Healthcare, Rural Management, E-business, Business Design, Retail Management etc. Our students have immensely benefitted through courses such as the Integrative Manager wherein through team teaching, multidisciplinary concepts are taught to nurture an integrative thinking mindset. Innovation and design thinking has always been one of the strongest pillars of WeSchool's guiding philosophy. We are committed in our journey towards inculcating innovative mindset in our students. In February 2014, we will be hosting INTER-DESIGN Mumbai; a global event organized under the aegis of ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design). We School is the only B-School to host this global congregation of the best designers in the world (All the previous editions have been held by Design Schools across the world). The theme for the forthcoming event is Humanizing the Metropolis. Students' global & rural exposures and opportunity to engage in several projects and initiatives such as D-Magics, GRLI, SIFE, Udaan and Munijan have sensitized them to their role as an individual to make a difference to the organization they would be working for. WeSchool's association with several leading International Universities has ensured student & faculty exchange and internship programs. I welcome you to the World of WeSchool Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director

Bengaluru Dean's Message

I am delighted to announce that WeSchool, Bengaluru, which had a humble start few years ago, has established its presence in the Silicon Valley of India. About the identity system
About the identity system
The understated, almost undesigned font is humble and not stately and awe inspiring like typical university identities. The Trikon that represents body, mind & soul and the coming together of academics, corporate and society looks simple but is actively a potent symbol, constantly pushing us forward, never stopping. The green reminds us that green is going to be the color and nature of all businesses tomorrow. The color purple gives our identity, the assurance and solidity of a university.

Business education seeks change. We are the change.

At Welingkar, we believe that management education has the potential to influence the country's growth and development. But in an era where emerging unarticulated needs seek newer approaches, being a conventional B-school is not enough. It needs the combined efforts of various stakeholders of management education. That's precisely why we have decided to renew our values, constantly challenge convention and collaborate with the corporate, NGOs, government bodies etc. We would also share ideas and design innovative programs that will equip today's talent to face tomorrow's challenges. Create newer paradigms in the area of management education and transform from a B-school to WeSchool. All this with an endeavor to transform management education as we see it. 'We' is the new 'I' and as Welingkar changes to WeSchool, our actions will embody the spirit of:

breakthrough thinking and execution business design every movement

*Imp: The change to WeSchool is only a change in the brand identity, to reflect the philosophy of change and represent the multiple campuses that Welingkar has. The legal entity of the institute remains unchanged as Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research.

PGDM Business Design - 2 Year Full-Time, Recognized by AICTE

Present intake - 60 seats in Mumbai & 60 seats in Bengaluru
Today, markets change at a pace that makes even Moore's law seems archaic. With advances in the fields of communication, material sciences, and genetics: nothing seems impossible How does a Business manager adapt in such times? Design thinking with its adaptive and integrative approach, seems to provide the way forward. A designer converts imagination into reality with her/ his unique abilities of seeing co-relations across diverse domains, intuitive skills of unbiased observations, a highly user centric approach, a tendency towards quick prototyping. A merger of the intuitive approach of a designer and the analytical approach of a Business manager has given birth to the term 'Business design'. Business is an entity designed to satisfy the need of its stakeholders profitably. A business has to go through the following steps: Need Identification, opportunity spotting & understanding the environment Concept generation and business case creation Designing the Business Execution Roll-out Strategy for Growth
Identification of Latent Needs Holistic thinking Visualizing Scenarios Creative Thinking

INNOVATION

In-Depth Stakeholder Analysis Human Centered Approach

Design Thinking

Quick Prototyping

Tolerance to Ambiguity

Multi Sensory Perception

Execution Competence

Nurturing Questioning Mind

Multidisciplinary Integrative Approach Unique Business Offering

A business manager needs to understand these steps and have a holistic view of the human aspects in business, the economic, social, cultural and technological context of the business environment, a research orientation, analytical and leadership skills. One has to go beyond the functional silos of management (marketing, finance, operations, human resources etc) to understand the inter-linkages between them so that he is able to appreciate the implications of his decisions and actions on the business of his organization to be a responsible manager. WeSchool's PGDM (Business Design) program attempts to inculcate this learning into the future business Managers and leaders by integrating Design thinking and Innovation process into the mainstream management subjects. To facilitate this process WeSchool has 'Innowe'- the innovation lab on campus for students to experiment with their ideas and concepts.

WE'CKET 2012-13
WE'CKET was played with pomp and grandeur at WeSchool Bengaluru Campus; however, there were fewer teams and fewer matches. From this year onwards, the number of teams and the number of matches played increased and would continue to be so henceforth. The event was organized into various qualifiers. After a set of close encounters, E-Biz I Senior and E-Biz I Junior teams met in the finals. The match was a closely fought one as it was swinging in favour of both the teams. Contemporary ideas picked up by Industry from student projects at Innowe:

1. A 2 hr module based on mythology for imparting Management techniques to SHG members without the use of Text or Technology. The problem statement: A large Retailer purchases various items from various SHGs in the slums of Mumbai. The SHG members face problems in keeping inventory, accounts, maintaining quality standards etc. The retailers executives find it difficult to transact with these SHGs. The brief to our students: How can you train the SHG members to facilitate seamless transactions between them & the Retailer without the use of any textual material? Methodolgy: On-field observation led our team of students to realize that though the SHG members were illiterate they had a good knowledge of mythology. Working on this insight, the team created a module using relevant mythological stories to drive through various concepts s.a. inventory mgt, keeping accounts etc. The resulting two- hour module was entirely non-textual with a high recall value that ensured it could be transmitted by the SHG members themselves with no further intervention from the student team or the retailers executives. 2. A large Insurance company seeking new markets: A daily premium( as low as ` 5 per day) plan for roadside vendors & daily wage earners in Mumbai. The problem statement: Where is growth going to come from next? The brief to our students: Find a new market Methodology: During the field surveys, our students identified a typical problem faced by roadside vendors & daily wage earners in Mumbai. Whenever, there are heavy rains or on days when there is unrest & the city comes to a standstill, these people are not able to feed themselves, since they are unable to earn anything during the day. Can these people not be insured albeit for a nominal premium of as low as ` 5 per day? This was the suggestion given by our students. The Company is formulating prototyping plans for this concept & if there is a strong business case, would take it to market. 3. Modular furniture that converts a kitchen into a study room. The problem statement: The space crunch that a typical Mumbaikar faces in her/his house. The brief to our students: How to optimize space in a typical Mumbai household. Methodology: Extensive on-field research enabled our student team to create a typical profile of the family as: Husband & Wife in the age band of 38 to 48 yrs of age with two children in the educational age band of 6th std. to 12th std. living in 1 BHK flat. Issue identified: The parents sleep in the bedroom while the kids sleep in the drawing room. The TV is placed in the drawing room. When the 12th std kid wanted to study post-dinner, the younger one wanted to watch TV Further research by the student team threw up an interesting insight, viz. The kitchen ceases to be a kitchen after about 9.30 -10 pm, while the need of a quiet place for the elder kid to study begins around that time. Building on this insight, the team came up with the concept of Modular furniture that could convert a kitchen into a study room at night. This concept was prototyped by the student team & was extremely well-received by a leading builder.

innoWE, Bengaluru
Innovate and Incubate; the base-line for management learning in Business Design WeSchool, Bangalore is emerging as the innovation hub for Welingkar's management education programs. To nurture business leaders of tomorrow, Welingkar has set up a state-of-art campus in the heart of Electronics City, with the latest amenities and experienced faculty. Across the various management programs on campus, and more specifically for WeSchool's PGDM program in Business Design and Innovation, Welingkar attempts to inculcate learning in future business leaders by integrating Design Thinking and the Innovation process into mainstream management subjects. The class-room program follows a hands-on pedagogy to drive theoretical learning through live doing and learning projects. To facilitate the process of experiential learning WeSchool has set up an innovation lab, InnoWe, at the Bangalore campus. The objective of the InnoWe is to create a platform for all students, in the different streams on the campus, to explore, develop, and incubate their designs and business ideas. InnoWe is a place where students are encouraged to voice the weirdest of their ideas with assurance that these will be allowed to germinate, cross-pollinate, and get fertilized. It is the hub of ideas for business concepts of the future. InnoWe is the hotbed of a host of activities on campus, including project display exhibitions, idea contests, concept shows, rendezvous with innovators, toymaking and film-making contests, design round tables, and so on. The facility enables students to brainstorm, create, and share their design and business schemes with colleagues and faculty, as well as with industry advisors and mentors in order to take their ideas forward to maturity. InnoWe will evolve into a place where student entrepreneurs will gravitate to. A Prototype Lab is also built on campus as an extension to InnoWe, where the students can build their concepts. The students would experiment with their ideas and concepts, and WeSchool's PGDM program in Business Design and Innovation will be a key user of InnoWe and Prototype Lab. This program is one-of-its-kind in Indian management education. Business Design & Innovation integrates design thinking and innovation with mainstream management principles, to explore human needs, possibilities, and business opportunities of the future. Design thinking with its adaptive and integrative approach provides a way to convert imagination into reality. The Business Design manager uses his/her trained unique abilities to see corelations across diverse domains, uses intuitive skills for unbiased observations, adopts a highly user-centric approach, and relies on quick prototyping to validate his/her ideas. A merger of the intuitive approach of a designer with the analytical approach of a business manager has given birth to the term Business Design. build, test, and validate them before some of them can be incubated for market-worthiness. With this, a full ecosystem for next-gen business models will be fructified, beginning from the class-room, going through InnoWe and Prototype Lab, and incubated into new innovative businesses.

D-Magics
Since 2006, design thinking and innovation were brought into the MBA curriculum which has proven to be a sort of ground-breaking contribution to management education in India. Design is a thinking process that is applicable to all man-made creations; whether it's a business model, product, service, process or strategy. It is a process that leads to human centered innovation. Design thinking needs to be adopted into the mainstream thought process in all functional streams and at all levels in an organisation. With this objective WeSchool organises D-Magics every year at Mumbai and Bangalore campuses. D-Magics is (i) a concept show of innovative prototypes by our students and faculty for various industry verticals and social arenas as well as the industry showcasing some of their innovations (ii) will be a dialogue between the leaders and management representatives in organizations and practitioners of design to explore a magical change in industry and society. Hence the event has been named as D-Magics: Design for Management and Growth in Corporations and Society. The concept show will be exhibited all across our campus and will be an outcome of a six months exercise by students and their faculty mentors undertaking identification of latent needs, field research, concept generation, business case validation, prototyping and refinement. These concepts will be from the verticals of Social entrepreneurship, Agri business, Healthcare, Banking & Financial Services, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Retail, Information Technology, Telecom, Media, Entertainment, Advertising and Manufacturing. The outcomes that are anticipated will be to identify and solve problems and fuel growth in the social sector and corporate sector. This programme will be attended by top level executives from the corporate sector, mentors to student projects, Government officials, Students & Faculty of many other business schools in India.

Mashup
Mashup', An innovative Platform That Brings Startups and Students From Diverse Backgrounds Together Today's management education scenario must change by breaking the silos, thereby creating opportunities and communities that nurture a better future for people in all parts of the global economy. Having realized that, Welingkar began their journey on an untrodden path that not only Indian but universities and scholars internationally were slowly beginning to think and talk about. Thus the path of 'Design and Innovation' was set to Redefining MBA education at WeSchool. WeSchool believes in training its students to become corporate thought leaders with global mindsets and at the same time motivates them to become daring entrepreneurs who will take on the challenges thrown up by accelerated globalization, fast changing technologies, demanding clients and unpredictable socio-economic-political situations that the future has in store. Getting that higher post or a bigger salary package cannot be the only career goals of a young management student, he should be able to look at life that is beyond the horizon at the moment and visualize as to how he can become an employer instead of an employee. After all how many young managers will really be able to get that job offer with a salary package of one crore? expressed Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group DirectorWelingkar Education, at the inaugural function. Speaking about the relevance of an event, Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool says, The idea behind Mashup is to put budding entrepreneurs and startups through the experience required to create executable business plans. There are many entrepreneurs with innovative ideas or products but lack in scientific knowhow of creating a profitable business plan or are not sure how to approach the market. This platform will ensure that these startups get the required push in the right direction. It also gives students a chance to showcase their talent in front of the right audience and bear fruition to their dreams of setting up their own businesses. WeSchool believes not only in training world class corporate managers but entrepreneurs as well. That is why this competition is kept open for graduate as well as post graduate students so that they are able to met up with innovators, partner with them by polishing their own skills and get started on the paths of realizing their dreams of entrepreneurship.

Memetics Club
Memetics is an emerging field of study that explores the relationship between cultural trends and business opportunities. Participants discuss socio-cultural trends that could define the way corporates do business tomorrow.

Prarambh - Bengaluru
At Welingkar our life revolves around discovering, researching, erring & succeeding. We toil with ideas in an effort to germinate them from seeds to sprouts and from sprouts to trees; trees that grow big and strong and yet have their roots deep and firm in the soil. This thought has given birth to Prarambh, the E-Cell at We School, Bangalore.

Insight Lab
Insight lab helps corporates and students develop a strategic approach to innovation. It blends conventional and nontraditional methodologies to identify latent needs of human beings and create offerings around these needs. The lab aims at creation, development and pooling of knowledge along selected verticals. The aim is to generate insights, design and create innovative products/services or innovative business models, which can be made applicable to the corporate world.

We think not of ourselves as scientists trying to incubate, but rather as naturalists who try to cultivate. We believe that Entrepreneurship is a spirit and it can be inculcated in every individual irrespective of the choice of career or work. We endeavor to create an environment conducive to experiential learning. This matches our approach of 'design thinking' in the field of management education. It provides students a great scope for Innovation, which in turn provides the ideal launch pad for their entrepreneurial ventures. This ideology is reflected in the very design of the campus at Bangalore, where every classroom has the eco-system of an innovation lab. The eco-system includes aspects like completely flexible seating, allowing for the classroom to extend beyond the four walls. In addition regular visits and interactions with business leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators and designers help to provide the students with the required direction to their limitless thought process.

Industry Round Tables

At Welingkar, our endeavor has always been to be at the cutting edge of business education. However, the word education always has two sides to it theory and practice. Strangely though, they seem mutually exclusive. As someone has aptly said in good humor Theory is when you know something but it doesn't work. Practice is when something works and you don't know why This is often the classic disparity any MBA student faces after he is just out of a B- School. We understand that today it is very essential to create employable people and that is why we wish to facilitate a dialogue with the corporate world to know better what is expected from B-Schools today. Towards achieving this goal, Welingkar has taken some decisive strides to look beyond the obvious. One such initiative being Confluence: A Constructive Collision Of The Greatest Business Minds - a series of Industry roundtables. To engage in 'immersive techniques' and interact with 'people in the thick of action' is integral to the learning methods at Welingkar. Last year Welingkar organised roundtables across 12 industry verticals. Through these roundtables Welingkar brought together over 600 industry professionals, who shared real-time challenges and some of these are live projects that students are working on now at Welingkar.

Management Students Rendezvous with 'Bollywood' at WeSchool
Management Education has changed over the years with emerging unarticulated needs, realities, limited resources, globalization, environment issues etc which needs a new approach both in terms of thought as well as action. WeSchool strongly believes in integrating the philosophy of Leadership & Innovation with a design-thinking approach into management education. To enhance the learning in the classroom, a blend of case-studies, scenario planning, role-plays, audio-visual material and experiential learning methods are used in addition to the conventional classroom lecture method. Teaching through theatre, literature, poems, films, and book reviews have been a popular medium to connect with students to teach several management & leadership principles which makes learning more experiential and fun as well. B-schools and companies have realized how theatre-kind of training can develop various attributes among individuals and can determine group dynamics. At WeSchool we are going one step further by integrating theatre and literature (particularly serious fiction) and helping our students to not just learn from the unique pedagogy but by selecting such stories whose characters are often non-conventional leaders that teach many lessons on decision-making. While students engage in storytelling, they also are guided to delve on the dilemmas in the stories that involve ethics, change management, adversity management etc. The personalities from Bollywood shared their experiences with the students and faculty; be it Production, Direction, Script writing, Music, Dance, Acting each of these aspects had tremendous learnings for Business Management Students to enhance their professional approach.

Seminars with FICCI

Prof. Dr. Githa Heggde, Mr. Sridhar Jayant, Dr. Anil Rao, Ms. Shipra Chaterjee

Productizing Innovation in India for Global Markets -WeSchool, Bengaluru coducted a seminar on Productizing Innovation in India for Global markets, sponsored by Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The participants included senior product managers from multi national corporations in India. The topic was appropriate as many Indian firms are now developing products for the global market. Further to this, in the last two decades, Indian products have carved a niche for themselves in the global market. Businesses from India are taking the global stage on the strength of their success stories. The workshop was meant to bridge the talent gap in product management and marketing. There were 4 esteemed guests who spoke on the topic and gave valuable insights. Mr. Sridhar Jayanti's (Senior VP of Engineering and Managing Director McAfee) initiated the workshop. His topic was Product Innovation in India for Global Markets. Mr Sridhar's talk started with a pertinent question - what it takes to innovate in India. He elaborated this by saying that products created in India were primarily due to the physical and economic conditions of the country . The second speaker was Mr. Vivek Kumar of Paypal who spoke about design thinking for product managers.

According to him, design thinking was combining creative and analytical thinking and applying it toward solving a specific problem. Mr. Venkat Venugopal (Head, Development RM, R&D, Ericsson Chennai), brought in the R&D perspective to the seminar. He begun with the history of how R&D off shoring began in India in the pre 1990s and has evolved to the current times where cost arbitrage is not the point but value creation is. The final speaker of the day was Pinkesh Shah, Head of Adaptive Marketing. He shared how 'productizing' was now possible in India. The process that Pinkesh charted out began with market analysis to strategic planning to product planning, going to market and finally sales enablement. He then went on to highlight the role of an engineering leader (who owns the complete process of creating value) and the role of a product manager (CEO of a product). India is now the global product hub as it has the second fastest growing GDP in the world.

MIT Scholar brainstorms with students about Design thinking in technical innovation
Prof. Ramesh Raskar, Associate Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and head of the MIT Media Lab's Camera Culture research group had an insightful discussion with students at Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development (WeSchool) on the topic, Design at Scale: A New Paradigm for Tech Innovation on November 01, 2013. Prof. Ramesh Raskar engaged in an engrossing session with students from various b-schools, design schools and medical institutes on the application of design thinking on scalable technology innovation, framing the discussion around his latest invention eyeMitra, a Mobile Retinal Imaging and Predictive Analytics solution. Through the session he elucidated on the need for a linkage between various streams of work. He enunciated on how constant communication and cooperation between various streams like management, engineering and design will lead to differential innovation. The session was in tandem with WeSchools focus on design thinking. It concurs with their constant effort to guide its students to break out of the conventional framework and to come up with pragmatic innovations for socio-economic needs. Understanding the intricacies of the complexly drawn up economy has helped WeSchool to transform itself into a b-school with design thinking at its core. Appreciative of WeSchools leaning, Prof Ramesh advised the students to focus their energies on devising solutions for socially relevant problems that will help the common man in various aspects of life. He also spoke about how the MIT Media Lab's Camera Culture research group has pioneered in innovation and idea generation through an amalgamation of professional culture and various field of work for broader perspective and clarity while innovating. While concluding, he requested the audience to never stop ideating and to take action on the problems they face on a day today basis, but first to interact and brainstorm with people from different backgrounds to discern social issues and to craft solutions that address it efficiently, economically and quickly.

Apart from connecting with organizations, Welingkar also encourages students to learn about working in international groups through Universities it partners with thorough student exchange programs. The Copenhagen Business School offered one such opportunity where one of the Welingkar students with a Biotechnology background selected a course in Marketing Communications where he worked on a project with group members from Italy, Turkey and Lithuania. The exposure also provided an opportunity to learn from social interactions with students coming from various continents viz Asia, America and Europe. The perspectives they brought to the table broadened the students approach to learning and addressing challenges.

Duration
Student internships are generally defined for a period of 2 months - May & June. It is more convenient to carry out internships during the student's summer break at the institute.

Benefits
Undoubtedly, the internships offer significant learning for students. It helps students garner global perspectives. The company too benefits in several ways; as an outsider and being younger in age, students are able to bring in fresh perspectives to any existing problem and give valuable recommendations for the benefit of the company. Welingkar Alumni Network

Alumni Round Tables - Mumbai
After the Alumni Meet last year, we figured it would help immensely to meet smaller groups of special / common interest alumni and facilitate Networking and Learning. We utilized the connected world and completely leveraged all possible Social Media to reach out to our alumni. The several round tables we had organized with corporate attendees encouraged us to dip into the rich resource pool of the alumni. This was intended to help connect the Welingkar alumni present in the same sector, across programs and batches. Each round table garnered 50-75 alumni. The biggest draw of this was, for the first time people were moving beyond meeting batch mates and beginning to understand and connect with the hidden We Power! The several discussions that have been going on, thanks to the online-real-time connect, has opened up opportunities for Welingkar to refresh the relationship between the alumni and Brand WE. It grew to become a great success with the presence of some of the young and esteemed alumni who gave various insights and practical knowledge. Each of these round tables allowed the alumni to discuss their experiences after their Welingkar education. The students could therefore learn what mistakes to avoid and what areas to focus on in terms of their education and practical experiences. It was not just an experience meant for students. Welingkar also learnt about what changes or improvements could be made to suit the changing environment in these sectors. In the Financial Services Round Table for example, sales as a profile in the insurance sector and the student misconception and dislike over the acceptance of the same were discussed. Alumni gave a lot of ideas to the college as to what activities should to be undertaken to groom students so that they are ready to face corporate life. Many suggestions like, undertaking Excel training for students, training on valuation models, certification courses like CFA, etc were well noted. Similarly, the discussion in the Media Round Table revolved around Industry structure and its robustness and also the roles available for graduates from various business schools in the sector. Another valuable point of discussion was what is needed by a WE School graduate to capitalize on the various industry offerings? The alumni also spoke about the practicality that one needs to have when entering the industry. They also discussed that in an industry like the Media one needs to be really passionate as there is a lot of struggle and ground level work that is necessary. The Alumni Round Tables therefore proved to be an overall learning experience for not only the students but also the management and the visiting alumni.

Mr. Ridham Desai Designation: Managing Director, Head Equity, Morgan Stanley India Company Pvt. Ltd. Batch MMS (1990-92) Students of Welingkar had an opportunity to have an enriching interaction with their esteemed alumnus Mr. Ridham Desai, Managing Director & Head of Research - Morgan Stanley India. He also shared with students, his perspective on the recovery measures taken by central banks across the countries and the impact of these measures. In terms of the role of emerging economies, he discussed the impact of Chinese demand and supply dynamics on the global economy. Alumni Round Tables - Bengaluru

The alumni roundtable at Bengaluru was organised with the view to connect with the Welingkar Alumni present across sectors, across programs and across batches. There were two topics discussed in the Alumni Round table, where the alumni shared insightful updates across industries. Recent global recession has thrown up new challenges. It has proved that the traditional tools of management are not sufficient to tackle such new threats. Innovative business approaches and business styles are the need of the hour. Post-recession, corporates are streamlining their business portfolios to fair well through these turbulent times. The following topic helped to the students to know the changing corporate strategies: Now that the economy is reviving, how are the corporate gearing up for future challenges. The roundtable allowed the alumni to discuss their corporate experience after their Welingkar education. The students could therefore learn what mistakes to avoid and what areas to focus in terms of their education and practical experiences. It is always observed that there exists a gap in what we learn and what we practice in the industry. We at Welingkar always try to bridge this gap through continuously updating our syllabus as per the latest industry trends and requirements. In this view, to gain more insight direct from the corporate we had structured the second topic for our roundtable: Transition from B-School graduates to corporate executives.
