Nominations open for Safe Work Awards

Nominations are now open in the annual Safe Work Awards to recognise individuals and businesses creating positive safe work environments and cultures. The focus of the 2014 Safe Work Awards is on celebrating safety: best practice, performance and people. Good work health and safety outcomes create a competitive advantage for businesses with reduced costs, improved reputation and higher productivity linked to healthier, happier and motivated people, less risk taking behaviour, all adding up to a reduced likelihood of people getting injured or killed at work. Minister for Industrial Relations John Rau said there are four categories in the Safe Work Awards 2014, celebrating South Australian individuals, businesses and organisations that are leading the way in work health and safety. "South Australia has a strong safety record and is consistently one of the nations leaders in reducing work-related injuries," he said. These awards provide the opportunity for us to recognise innovations and good practices as well as the people in our workplaces putting health and safety first. The awards recognise those South Australians prioritising safe work practices and working to ensure people are not injured or killed at work. This year we look forward to seeing lots of entrants showcasing the important working being done. The Safe Work Award categories are: 1. Best Work Health and Safety Management System 2. Best Solution to an Identified Work Health and Safety Issue 3. Best Work Health and Safety Practice/s in a Small Business 4. Best Individual Contribution to Work Health and Safety a) an outstanding contribution by any worker with no direct responsibility for work health and safety as part of their duties b) an outstanding contribution by a work health and safety manager or a person with this responsibility as part of their duties c) Health and Safety Representative of the year
