Loksabha Election Survey Arunachal Pradesh

By: Shanmitha Basakhatre & Keval Savla Arunachal Pradesh is one of the most prominent states in India. Arunachal Pradesh attained its statehood on 20th February 1987. Arunachal Pradesh, a mysterious, magical and mystical and tucked away in the north eastern tip of India is one of the most compelling holiday destinations in India. Arunachal Pradesh is a thinly populated hilly tract lying on the north-east extremity of India comprising roughly 83,573 square kilometers. Arunachal Pradesh is known to be rich in flora, fauna, power and mineral potential. It is bounded by independent countries on the three sides and by Assam and Nagaland in the south. Arunachal Pradesh has 2 Parliamentary Constituency namely One Arunachal East Parliamentary Constituency and Two Arunachal West Parliamentary Constituency. The number of Assembly Constituency is 60 and total 17 District.

These constituencies have primarily been a stronghold of the Indian National Congress from its formative years, although the BJP and the Arunachal Congress have won the seat once each in both of the constituencies.

The Arunachal West Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 1) consists of 433,368 number of electorates in totality, of these 215,516 are males and 217,852 are females as the Election commission of India 2009 data suggests. Arunachal West Lok Sabha constituency comprises 33 Assembly segments, namely, Lumla, Tawang, Mukto, Dirang, Kalaktang, Thrizino-Buragaon, Bomdila, Bameng, Chayangtajo, Seppa East, Seppa West, Pakke-Kasang, Itanagar, Doimukh, Sagalee, Yachuli, Ziro-Hapoli, Palin, Nyapin, Tali, Koloriang, Nacho, Taliha, Daporijo, Raga, Damporijo, Liromoba, Likabali, Basar, Along West, Along East, Rumgong and Mechuka.

The Arunachal East Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 2) has a total of 301,173 electorates out of which 147,025 are females and 154,148 are males according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports. Arunachal East Lok Sabha constituency comprises 27 Assembly segments, namely, Tuting-Yingkiong, Pangin, Nari-Koyu, Pasighat West, Pasighat East, Mebo, Mariyang-Geku, Anini, Dambuk, Roing, Tezu, Hayuliang, Chowkham, Namsai, Lekang, Bordumsa-Diyum, Miao, Nampong, Changlang South, Changlang North, Namsang, Khonsa East, Khonsa West, Borduria-Bagapani, Kanubari, Longding-Pumao and Pongchou-Wakka
