The easiest way to start HSC Chemistry is by double-clicking the HSC icon in the Windows Program Manager using the mouse. Within a few seconds the computer loads HSC into the memory and displays the Main Menu of HSC on the screen see !ig. ".

The current #ersion of HSC has fourteen calculation modules as well as element and species databases which can be seen as option buttons in the main menu see !ig. ". Printer Settings

HSC3.7-7 can also be edited using for e&ample the -otepad %SC77-editor. HSC always reads the HSC.7-7 file first when starting therefore the last specified font settings will be used. See Chapter 5... for a description of the HSC3.7-7 file. To return to the main menu click on C$n.e(. The default printer settings can be changed using the Printers icon on the Contro( P$ne(.

The new HSC Help module contains all the information graphics and formulae of the HSC printed manual along with con#enient search print edit and sa#e options. The 8Help Manual8 is di#ided into .( chapters all being separate files. These files are in Word *444 format and located in the HSC39Help-folder. -early all HSC menus ha#e a He() selection that opens the HSCHelp module and displays the corresponding chapter in the manual. !ig. . shows the help pages for Chapter 10. selection. Clicking on a chapter in the left frame will automatically load and show that chapter in the right frame. To print the current chapter select 'i(e1Print from the menu. 7t is also possible to search the manual using keywords. Simply select the Se$r.h tab from the left frame and type the desired keyword in the te&tbo&. 6y pressing the 2ist To)i.s button all the chapters containing the keyword are displayed. The desired chapter may then be selected and by pressing the 'in3 !e4t button the ne&t entry containing the keyword is displayed. !ig. ( shows a search conducted using the keyword <stream=.

The HSCHelp $ditor enables the user to manually #iew and edit help chapters. Select E3it1E3it Current ,o.ument from the menu to open the editor for the current chapter. The edit mode can be useful when for e&ample printing only a few pages or a selected part of a chapter. Se#eral of the typical word processing options are a#ailable in the Help $ditor. HSC Help $ditor reads and writes Word *444 files and it supports most of the Word *444 features but not all i.e. it is not "44> Word *444 compatible. !ig. 2 shows the edit mode for Chapter 11. Heat and Material Balance. -ote that you may also add your own ?@C-files to HSC39Help-folder and HSCHelproutine reads these automatically.
