The full time postholder for the Regional Officer (RO) for the South of England will support
and work with the current nine British Science Association Branches in the region to help
recruit and induct new volunteers, develop links with other local organisations and enable
the volunteers to form a sustainable committee and engaging public events programmes.
In addition to Branch support, the postholder will act to raise awareness of the Association
in the region, including the promotion of National Science and Engineering Week and
other programmes, and coordinate fundraising activity across the regional team.
The post will be based at the Wellcome Wolfson Building in South Kensington, London,
although there is a small possibility the RO location may change in the future. A significant
amount of travel around the South of England will be required.
• Working with the British Science Association Branches to identify their support needs
and put plans into place to meet these
• Encouraging the Branches to try new methods of public engagement and aim at
reaching new audiences
• Creating and implementing a strategy for recruiting new branch members and
supporting the development of new Branches

• Maintaining regular communication links between Head Office and the Branches,
including securing information from Branches for quarterly reports to Council and
consulting on new Association policies
• Ensuring that web pages for the South of England Branches are fresh and up-to-date
The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues across the organisation and
have a good working knowledge of all of the British Science Association’s programmes.
The South of England Regional Officer will work particularly closely with the other regional
officers and will spend a significant amount of time sharing experience and best practice
with these colleagues via virtual and actual meetings.

The position is offered at a salary of £21,000 to £26,000 per year depending on successful
fundraising experience.
Applicants should note that hours during the British Science Festival, held every year in
September, may be particularly demanding.
