The Cask of Amontillado (Mood, Narration, and Freudian Criticism) Buranelli., Vincent. Edgar Allen Poe. New York: Twayne Publishers. 1977. Print. This book is all about Poes life. Including a biography, and in depth analysis of his life and works. This source gave me a glimpse into Poes personal life and a little more insight on him than my other sources. The source is credible; coming from a scholastic library. Buranelli also has a bibliography at the end of his work to cite his sources, and no bias is evident, showing credibility. The goal of this source is to give insight on Poes life and explain why he chooses to write about the topics he does. This source will be useful to me when I construct my research essay. I will use a few quotes from it to explain why Poe chooses to be so dark in his writing.

Morsberger, Robert E. "The Cask Of Amontillado." Masterplots II: Short Story Series, Revised Edition (2004): 1-2. Literary Reference Center Plus. Web. 2 Apr. 2014. From this source the meaning behind the story becomes clear. Poes specific style and technique is analyzed and critiqued throughout the essay as well.

This is the only source that contains this specific information. The credibility is proved with the bibliography at the end and no bias is evident. The goals are to explain the themes and meanings of Poes, The Cask of Amontillado, as well as styles and techniques of Poe himself. This source is very helpful and enlightened me on some things I didnt know about Poe, and I will definitely be using as a source on my research paper.

Poe, Edgar Allen. The Cask of Amontillado. The Norton Introduction to Literature. Ed. Kelly J. Mays. New York: W.W. Norton & Company, 2013. 164-170. Print. The main point of this source is to provide me with the actual story text. Coming from The Norton Introduction to Literature this is source is clearly credible, with its prestigious editors and wide use of the text for literature classes. Poes The Cask of Amontillado, in the textbook also is given as an example of third person narrative in the narration and point of view chapter of the textbook. This source is incredibly useful to me in that I have access to the actual text of the short story.

Stepp, Walter. The Ironic Double in Poes The Cask of Amontillado. Blooms Modern Critical Interpretations The Tell-Tale Heart and Other Stories. Harold Bloom. New York: Blooms Literary Criticism, 2009.31-37. Print. In this source Stepp analyzes the irony in The Cask of Amontillado. He explains that Poe did not intend on easy irony, and gets into the psychoanalytic aspect of it all.

Compared to other sources, this one was the most critical interpretation of The Cask of Amontillado. The source is credible; coming from a scholastic library, but Stepp does reflect some bias, is very opinionated, and adds his two cents wherever he can. The goal of the piece is to provide a critical interpretation of the ironic double in The Cask of Amontillado. This source will be helpful when writing my research paper by seeing a different approach someone else took on the same topic. The source is useful to me, but may not be quoted in my research essay.
