Introduce the lesson and activate students' background knowledge. We will be continuing our study of how African American history has impacted our lives today. This unit will be focused on the African American influence on the culture of Illinois and the Midwest. Today our discussion centers on the African American influences in Chicagos music scene, namely Blues Music.
